Good morning everyone. Some rather disturbing news about Hurricane Milton and its possible effects on areas of Florida make me rather embarrassed complaining about the amounts of rain I get here. I received some good news yesterday. A proposed building application to erect 57 homes on the old livery stables, manège and accompanying fields at the rear of the Crescent I live in was refused by the Council yesterday. This has been hanging over us for a few years now and all my 7 neighbours and I are very relieved. This land has been a wonderful home for many creatures ranging from roe deer, newts, toads to many more small mammals and mini beasts.

 

Good morning @Tui34, I think our posts must have crossed. I haven't decided what I am doing today but once it has got light I will be able to make up my mind. Until then - another cuppa required.

It's been raining. Not sure what we'll do today but this evening we are going to the pub quiz with our friends down the road. They are trying to sell their house in France and then live permanently in our village.

Tomorrow we are going to London. OH's old school is having an old boys' dinner, black tie and evening dress. We'll stay the night in a hotel.

 

Now its light enough for me to see outside it is another case of rain stopped play so I think it will be a crafting day for me.
Ooh posh frock do @Busy-Lizzie. That will be splendid.

It’s mild and clear here, although very damp from yesterday’s heavy rain.

Lovely to have a midweek day off so I’ll do a mini shop and see what Diddly-Dee has in the middle aisles. Halloween stuff no doubt, but there’s always something that catches my eye.

Oops @Ladybird4 , I had no idea I'd done that - had to go back and look when I got your notification as was very puzzled. You used the plural so I guess I must have done it before as well. How odd! Sorry about that. Entirely unintentional.

 

Aargghh hang on, that was @Busy-Lizzie ! The only one I found was @Ladybird4 . I am even more confused now. I shouldn't pop in when I'm in transit / in the middle of stuff clearly. Apologies. If I get a chance I'll seek it out and remove it.

Hello everyone. Wet, wet, wet again here but, according to the midday news on the radio just as I was getting home from physio and errands, Kirk will arrive after lunch with winds of 100kph+ and 4"/10cms of rain. I thought he got here last night but that was clearly just the vanguard.

We're OK so far thanks @Tui34 but OH, who's been sleeping in the spare bedroom since his cold, says there are a couple of drips in there which means getting a roof man to come and check cos all those drips have come thru about 6"/15cms of insulation in the loft. Not good.

Great news for you and your neighbours @Ladybird4. You'll have to celebrate.

Fingers crossed you have all your hatches safely battened down @Obelix-Vendée. Those are scary wind speeds. I do hope that the drip is nothing too major and you can get it sorted quickly.

 

First @Ladybird4 Ihave to find a reliable roofer and then get him or her to come - there'll be lots of tiles and roofs lifted in these increasingly "exciting" winds so we won't be treated as urgent. i shall ask our newer neighbours. He's a carpenter so should know some roofers.
