    Afternoon all!

Good luck finding the leak, @Obelix-Vendée . We have a very occasional drip just above the window in a spare bedroom, and the roofers haven't been able to locate the problem... since the only guaranteed solution would be to strip the roof and start again, I think we'll live with a bucket under the possible problem area in the loft, and a towel on the windowsill in the bedroom.

I do hope everyone in the path of Hurricane Milton has heeded the warnings and evacuated by now. It sounds potentially horrendous! I feel so fortunate to live in a relatively safe place free from flooding, excessive winds and extremes of temperature. There are definitely times when boring is good.

We had planned to visit three castles along the coast, east of Edinburgh today, but given the dodgy weather forecast, we opted to go to the old Royal Yacht Britannia - my wife's choice.
We got there, only to find it closed for two days for repair work.
So we ambled back into the city, and visited a museum (very interesting) and walked right around the base of the castle.
I won't bore you with more photos. Maybe when I visit some of the lesser known castles!!!

Is the Sterling motor museum and castle too far for you @RowlandsCastle ?

As predicted there was loads of Halloween stuff in the SMs. It is actually a bit sad to see so much plastic tat - do we really need spider tinsel and plastic ghosts?

I didn’t buy much but did get some ripe bananas and made a banana bread for work tomorrow. It’s got banana chips and peanut butter chips so is really sweet and yummy.

          Take care all.

A very good morning one and all. I hope all is well with everyone. Bestie and I are on Food Bank duty this morning and my car boot is full of shopping bags - kindly donated by my next door neighbour.
Hope all is OK with @Badly_Maintained as he hasn't been around for a few days, and that @redstar is on the road to recovery with her damaged wrist.

                  Good morning all!!

Hello @Ladybird - the early bird as usual!! I noticed @Badly_Maintained 's absence - hope the migraines aren't too severe. I think @redstar is looking after her wrist.

I did a bit much yesterday and have a sore back and side of thigh this morning but I need to go to the handyman store. I only need a couple of things but they are usually at the far end of the shop!!!

Good morning @Tui34. You will know the limits of your hard work at the moment so I don't need to warn you to be careful. Ooops just think I did! All my life I have been an early riser and all through my working life I never had to use an alarm clock. No matter what time I go to bed I am awake around about 06:00ish every morning. Occasionally I oversleep but its not really much later than 06:40ish. Handy brother and youngest sister are the same.

                      Morning all.

What time do you go to sleep, @Ladybird4?

We came 4th in the Pub quiz last night. I think there were 10 teams. We went with our friends down the road who have a house in France. They are trying to sell it.

We are going to London today, to OH's school's old boys' gala dinner. It's black tie and evening dress. We'll stay the night in a hotel. I said that yesterday though. I always find London rather stressful, so big, so many people. I lived there when I did my nursing training when I was young, didn't like it. Had to go and sit in a park to destress.

                          Good morning all.

That's a magnificent structure, @RowlandsCastle - and great photos! Thanks for sharing.

I feel the same way about big cities, @Busy-Lizzie . I was brought up in a village in Hertfordshire, and we visited London from time to time, but in the 1960s it wasn't nearly so intimidating as it seems to me now. At least there are plenty of parks and green spaces to escape to, when it all gets too much. Give me a tree to sit under and I'm happy...

Only 3C at the moment, but the sun is shining and there's very little wind, so I'm going to sow the yellow rattle seeds I collected in July, in the parts of the meadow which don't have any yet.

                            Good morning all,
Back again. Apologies once more for my accidental 'responses' :thud:
The problem is that I tend to literally 'pop in', often when I'm on a bus, and read a few posts. So I'm dipping in and out, rarely see everything, and then (as yesterday!) suddenly need to get off the bus and go do whatever I'm doing - I suspect my responses happen as I put my phone in my pocket! But who knows.
Anyway, all well here. I can't remember when I last posted (apart from yesterday) but I had a wonderful birthday day out last week in and around Lewes. RHS Hyde Hall the week before too.
I see you're indulging your love of castles @RowlandsCastle - you must feel like a kid in a sweetshop! Hope you found something pleasing at the diddly-dee @AuntyRach - I now think of both those shops by your name for them. Any hedgehog news, @Liriodendron ? I'm reading Carol Klein's 'Hortobiography' at the moment and she talks about learning to use a scythe - I thought of you. Good to hear recovery is progressing well @Tui34 . And I hope @redstar 's wrist is on the mend.
Needless to say, @Busy-Lizzie , I love London. It's my favourite place in the entire world and I feel very privileged to live here, and to have converted my northern OH . Even after a lifetime I still feel delighted. I hope you have a good time and it doesn't stress you out too much (or at all, hopefully!).
Giving blood for the first time in years today, just because I keep not getting round to booking an appointment. I hope it's good enough!

No sign of the hedgehog at present, @LG_ , so I hope it's found plenty of food elsewhere (and/or a good place to hibernate - though it's a bit early for hibernation here in Ireland). We've got a lot of potential hibernation spots in the wood, so fingers crossed. :)

Hey ho! The sun is shining and we're off to the van for 3 nights. We're picking 'grand dog' up on the way and he's staying overnight with us.
Did you train at the London, @Busy-Lizzie ? My nursing family all trained there. I used to love going there, but it's too busy for me now. Give me the quiet of the Welsh hills.
                                Enjoy the black tie do.
Not heard from @PatE for a while.
Enjoy the sunshine. I am thankful we don't have the hurricane winds the BBC is forecasting.
