Good morning all. Hope you are all well. I wasn't around here almost two months, but hope that everything will slow down, and I'll have more time. I saw some beautiful photos here, and I'm glad that you enjoy in your travels and lovely lunches. Wish you all a very nice Sunday.

Good morning Ante1. Great to see you around again. As your harvesting trails off I know you will already be making big plans for next season. You will have to hunt out your lights soon - as our favourite season sneaks up on us! upload_2024-10-13_8-1-50.gif

        Good Morning all.

Hope all ok with you @Ante1.

        Enjoy the coffee morning @Ladybird4.

It’s a chilly but dry day here. I need to help MIL plant her bulbs today - two oblong pots for the patio with dwarf daffodils and a few Aliums. I will retire her patio pelargoniums to the utility room windowsill too.

        Have a lovely Sunday everyone

Lovely evening with the outlaws last night. Helps that they're dog people too. No cook nibbles ( charcuterie, cheeses etc) is the way to enjoy a stress free evening!
Expensive week ahead, car service and MOT, son's birthday, chiropodist...
Going home later. It will be an easy supper tonight.
First thing will be to plant up my Amaryllis from Farmer Gracey.
          The tulips can wait.
Hi @Ante1 , good to hear from you
@AuntyRach how kind of your dad. Enjoy your birthday present.

Hell everyone. I hope you are well. i've had a lazy morning finishing a book whilst trying not to scratch myself to bits - harvest mites annual invasion. They don't go for OH at all so I get the lot.

@Ladybird4 as long as the soil is a bit damp - not a problem your way - I can push the root slayer in like a knife thru butter even with the knees, or more correctly, the muscle and ligament reconnections. The trowel sized is wonderful for making holes for bulbs, better than my Sneeboer! When I bought them OH scoffed at "girls and their toys" but constantly nicks them.

It's dry so far so I'm off to pull up the last of the squash plants and plant some broccoli. I'd also like to turn the door round on our plytunnel so it opens to let in southerly breezes rather than northerlies - warmer for both chooks and plants in winter. OH says there are no holes of hinges on the right hand side but I have drills, and drill bts for metals......

Roast chicken for us tonight @Penny_Forthem but I may well do some Yorkshires, just cos I can.

            Happy Sunday everyone.

              Good morning everyone!!

Not a late start but did bit and pieces this morning, then one thing led to another and then it was suddenly lunchtime!!

Greyish with a few patches of blue today. No wind for once.

I have had a few frantic days with Rob. I took him back to the vet on Thurs. as I was sure he had gone blind in his right eye, despite the anti biotic drops I had been putting in and minimal improvement in the condition of his eye. We were immediately referred to a vetinary occulist in Falmouth. She was running 15 mins late we were told when we arrived, an hour later we finally got in to see her. However, we were with her for an hour while she carried out a number of tests. Thankfully it looks as if we were in time to save Rob's eye and he should eventually get his sight back. However I have to put 3 different kinds of drops in his eye at varying times, every 12 hours, 6 hours and 4 times daily. He of course hates it because his eye is so painful and of course, keeping the whole area of his face clean is not easy, lots of wriggling and burying his face going on. It could take a couple of months to clear up the ulcer so we have to be patient.
She also came up with a suggestion that he might be suffering from Cushings Disease which would explain the rather sudden lose of fur, voracious appetite and scavenging etc. He is due for a blood test on Thurs. so not long to find out. Easily treated with tablets apparently.
My daughter drove us to Falmouth after cancelling a hairdressers appointment so I rewarded us by stopping for a delicious lunch at the The Heron in Malpas. We sat outside in glorious sunshine, overlooking the river full of moored dinghies and gave up our stress to the universe. We both needed it.

Hello all. (Only just morning still!)

So glad you've got a promising diagnosis for Rob, @Goldenlily26 . Hopefully he'll be happier having to suffer the drops, once he starts getting more comfortable.

Did the cakes you made last week freeze ok, @Ladybird4 ? Hope they're going down well!

That root slayer looks great, @Obelix-Vendée . And your French Amazon link taught me that the French for "to zoom" is... "zoomer". Of course! :hapydancsmil:

I'm off to Dublin this afternoon on the first leg of my trip to Scotland, to "fettle" the cottage. The next night will be spent in Glasgow, then on Tuesday I get the train to Oban (a wonderfully scenic journey), followed by the ferry to the island where we have the cottage. I'll "see" you all when I get back at the beginning of November. :)

I love a no cook nibbles evening @Penny_Forthem - yum.

I might do some yorkshires with my chicken dinner too @Obelix-Vendée.

That’s hard going for you and Rob @Goldenlily26 - I hope he feels more comfortable asap.

Your Scottish cottage sounds like a treat @Liriodendron - enjoy the Autumn colours on your journey - I’d love to see pics.

Just had a brunch of porridge and raspberries so I may have enough fuel to do a bit in the garden.

                      It's chilly but not raining.

I'm glad you should be able to save Rob's eye @Goldenlily26.

I hope your journey is trouble free @Liriodendron and you enjoy your stay in Scotland.

Been to church. The vicar played the organ as well as leading the service. The organist was away and the vicar is a very good musician.

I will probably watch Strictly this afternoon.

Hi all, what a lot has been going on. Glad your hip continues to improve, @Tui34. What a worry re Robs eye, @Goldenlily26. What a trip, @RowlandsCastle! It has taken me a while to read through the posts I missed, so sorry if I’ve neglected anyone.
Got back home on Thursday. Our cruise didn’t turn out as expected, but we still mainly enjoyed ourselves. We should have spent three days in Spanish ports and one in Lisbon, but that didn’t happen. The first day was interrupted by a detour towards the French coast to allow a sick passenger to be lifted off the ship by helicopter, and taken to hospital in France. Would dread that, poor soul.
It did mean we only got an afternoon in Vigo instead of a whole day, but I went ashore for a few hours and had a wander around. Our next stop was Lisbon, where we had a long stroll through the centre, had to dodge a bit of rain, but otherwise a relaxing day. That was the last time we saw land for the next four days! Strong winds and high seas from Hurricane Kirk mean our stops in La Coruña and Bilbao were cancelled. A hastily arranged alternative day in Le Havre was cancelled at the very last minute, and we ended up back in Southampton a day early! We did get a small refund as compensation, and I took advantage of the day in Southampton to look around the mall, the John Lewis and Marks and Spencer are three times the size of our local branches.
I did enjoy the rest from the cooking etc - as I do almost all of that at home, I probably benefitted more from the break than OH did! Back to normality now, I’ve caught up with all the laundry, and we both had our Covid and flu jabs yesterday. Feeling rather sluggish today. Its green bins day on Wednesday, but I really can’t motivate myself to go out and start filling them.

                          Good afternoon,

A more pleasant day weatherwise than yesterday. We had torrential rain and strong winds mid afternoon. The sky became an interesting colour as the sun began to sink, and the rain poured - yellowy orange with a grey tinge outside the front window; dark grey outside the back but with a magnificent rainbow. Nature can be spectacular.

Chicken seems to be a popular choice for dinner today. We’re having the same.

Hello @Ante1, nice to see you posting again on this thread.

A shame that your cruise didn’t quite go to plan @Ergates, but it still sounds as if you had a good holiday. I hope the passenger who had to go to hospital will be alright, though I suppose you’ll never find out.

Your poor dog @Goldenlily26, at least he’s been diagnosed by a specialist vet now and will, hopefully, soon be on the mend. It’s been a worry for you.

We had a lovely harvest festival service at church today, with plenty of well known hymns to sing.

                          Have a good day everyone.

Everything crossed for Rob @Goldenlily26 . Vets are so clever these days and sight is so precious.
Interesting cruise @Ergates; the destinations you missed sounded interesting.
We are back home now and the heating is on. It was jolly chilly when we first got in (I've got my electric hot water bottle on!). In future, we'll leave the house heating on when we go to the van.
Hope the weather is kind to you on your island, @Liriodendron

                              Afternoon all,

Haven't done much today apart from our usual morning walk and two more washing loads.
Remade the guest bed ready for our next visitor on Wednesday! Woke up early as I'd obviously slept on both my arms which were sore so took paracetamol and they seem ok now.

So sorry to hear of ongoing problems with Rob's eyesight @Goldenlily26, hope they get resolved fairly quickly, such a worry for you. Good job you got him to the vet quickly though.

What a saga @Ergates and such shame the cruise didn't turn out as expected as you had been so looking forward to it. Hope the sick patient got better.

Have a good trip to Scotland @Liriodendron.

I meant to post this yesterday but forgot. When our visitors were here , we got to talking about the NHS app and how handy it was. It turned that our friend (who also had a Samsung phone like me) could access his health stats in graph form e.g. cholesterol levels compared with his previous results. I found that much easier but no matter how hard we tried, I couldn't get the graphs on my app for love nor money. Can anybody explain why not? Do the NHS apps differ in different parts of the country? Newer App downloads perhaps?

Afternoon all. Coffee morning went very well and I'm pleased to say that all the cakes I froze last week defrosted nicely and they were all eaten. Poor Jack - to whom I usually take any spares - had to go without today.
@AuntyRach, I brought my 3 pelargoniums inside yesterday and not a moment to soon as there was a slight frost this morning (I'm still waiting for summer) and I've now to find a windowsill for them.
@Obelix-Vendée, I do have a hori hori knife which is very useful and it sounds as if the smaller root slayer could be something similar.
So very, very sorry to hear about Rob @Goldenlily26. I do hope that the eye drops help. Poor chap!
Goodness but your cruise sounds to have been quite fraught at times and that poor person who had to be lifted off. Did you ever hear how he/she was? I would have hated that too.
Sorry @lizzie27, I cannot help you with the App problem as I haven't even got that on my phone. I really must get organised and find out how to do it.
