Good evening all. Great news about the MOT tests today  Goodness me @Goldenlily26, that is not the sort of reception you wish to get at your Doctor's. How very rude of them! Sounds as if you got two lovely 'buys' at the secondhand furniture shop @Busy-Lizzie. @RowlandsCastle, those chimneys look so fragile that I would be constantly worried about their stability in some of the high winds we can experience.
When is it your actual birthday @AuntyRach? We can't miss the occasion!
Glad you got your brassicas planted out @Obelix-Vendée. How do you keep your chooks off them? Enjoy your dance class.
I will sign out now for today. I think I will be reading tonight as there is nothing I particularly want to watch on TV. I am recording some programmes to watch at earlier times of the day. Catch you all tomorrow.

@Ladybird4 These chooks aren't cabbage eaters for some reason but we put nets over anyway to keep off the flutterbies and pigeons.

        Good night all. Sweet dreams.

Oh my! Did I get it wrong yesterday. The telephone consultation was with the surgery pharmacist. She was so determined to persuade (bully) me into having a new, 6 monthly statin injection instead of tablets. According to her, and one of the injection company reps she spoke to a couple of weeks ago, they are the best thing since sliced bread and I will probably have a heart attack or stroke if I do not change over to them. She really was quite aggressive in her manner, I had a job to remain polite! It made me wonder how much of a cut the Drs. get on these things, I know they get so much for each patient who take a statin.
She tried to tell me the components in the injections go straight to the liver and act only on the part of the liver that is needed, that they do not affect any other part of the body's internal tracts, Really?
Rob is obviously feeling a bit better, I have just had to rescue on of my neighbours chickens from him. It is determined to move into my garden but Rob has other ideas. He loves to chase them! I had to winkle it out from behind some large containers where Rob had it trapped. He is now patrolling the garden in the hope it will come back. I wouldn't mind if they didn't scratch everything up and poop everywhere, they make such a mess. Fortunately he is unable to kill them as he has rather a flat face being a Shiz Tzu but he has a good try.
His eye looks slightly better, is still very painful but he is progressing. He has to go for a blood test to check for Cushings Disease tomorrow. He will not like that as I have to leave him with the vet for a couple of hours. I have heard of it in humans but never in animals.

                Good Morning all.

What a weird weather day - warm, humid and raining. Some of windows have condensation on the outside (see weather thread for my explanations). De-humidifier is on here as the humid, damp weather plus a hot bath last night has resulted in high humidity in the house.

I’m having a tidy up day today, maybe nipping to Diddly-Dee later.

I hope little Rob continues to make progress @Goldenlily26 and he will be ok at the vet’s.

Have a good midweek day everyone.

                  Good morning everyone,
Just popping into say hello and wish you all well .

I have to say that I'm finding @RowlandsCastle 's photos fascinating. I don't know why, but something tells me he's having a really good time .

Glad to hear that those who haven't been around for a while are still popping up somewhere. It can be worrying when people don't post for a while. Life gets in the way, doesn't it.

Afternoon everybody, nothing much to post about, we've had heavy rain again which is nothing new. Got soaked coming back from the shops this morning as my raincoat (which I thought I'd reproofed heavily) wasn't rainproof after all! I then found out I'd lost my front door key so after a rest and coffee, we retraced our steps and managed it find it. Must have fallen out of my pocket when I got my little umbrella out. Good news is that we walked about 2.5 miles today.

Doesn't look like any gardening is going to get done so ironing it is - 'sigh'. Not my favourite job.

I'm glad you didn't give in to the bullying @Goldenlily26, I've also resisted taking statins so far.
My GP told me last year that purely because of my age, I had a 20% chance of a heart attack or stroke over the next ten years. Given that I'm now 78, I'd have thought that was highly likely anyway. If I took statins, he said, the risk would come down to 19.5% and just looked at me and we agreed not to go down that route. Of course I don't know whether or not the stats he quoted were correct but one would hope so. I'm in much more danger from the steroids I've been taking.

Hope Rob gets on ok at the vets.

I too, think @RowlandsCastle is having the time of his life. His wife must be exceedingly understanding.

                    Hello @AuntyRach and @AnniD.

I'm trying to decide what I'd like for dinner tonight. DIL is coming to stay overnight so she texts me to ask what we'd like, goes and gets it, then comes here and cooks it! Got to be a 20 min quick dish as she's usually starving hungry. What's not to like, such a lovely DIL and we count ourselves so fortunate.

Still damp, misty, rainy but warm here.

I ran out of steam to finish tidying the spare room, but it is better and I have put some Summer clothes away and replaced with jumpers etc.

We have some lovely steaks for (Birthday) tea tomorrow (Diddly-Dee on offer) so by a process of elimination - I should do the pork chops tonight as they need cooking in next 24 hours.

Enjoy the rest of the day folks and hope everyone has a delicious tea/dinner/supper.

Hello everyone. We've been to Nantes today, clothes shopping for Possum and then a nice lunch in one of the many decent restaurants in old Nantes centre but she and OH got hungry and decided to eat in one of the places in the shopping centre we were exploring. Not good so we didn't have dessert whch means I'll have to cook this evening.

Raining when we surfaced and the next stop was not inspiring and none of us fancied old Nantes in the rain so we came home to find it even wetter here. Rain due all night and most of tomorrow too now tho it is still warm. Hope it dries up a bit tho as I was supposed to be lifting all the potatoes on Friday to make way for new crops.

Good to see that Rob has the energy to herd hens @Goldenlily26. No statins here so I applaud your resistance to bullying.

Enjoy your dinner and evening everyone.

Not stopped raining and our stream is the highest we've seen it in the 24 years we've been here.
NE Wales has lots of flooded roads.

We travelled down to Jedburgh today, to meet friends coming up from the Carlisle area. Returning to our apartment, the weather was dreadful, and the roads awash with growing puddles.

On so many occasions we've passed signs pointing to this castle or that castle. I am tempted to direct my wife to these, but the driver has the final say - so I resist!!

Jedburgh has (or had) two castles, so I managed to get to both.

                            Jedburgh Castle and Gaol.
