Another great picture @RowlandsCastle. I'm bidding an early good night tonight as I'm off quizzing again. I'll catch up with all your news tomorrow.

Afternoon folks, not done much all day as right hand is still bothering me. It's also quite chilly out there, grey and dismal again. My daughter's just texted to say she's in bed with covid or flu and feeling dreadful so probably won't be fit enough to drive up and stay at the weekend which is a shame.

Pleased to hear that you are recovering well @Goldenlily and that Rob is also better.

Hope everyone who's also suffering gets better soon.

          Evening folks.

Today is my ‘Sunday’ so chicken dinner is being prepped.

Hope anyone’s worries, germs or pains disappear.

A wonderful post box knit there @RowlandsCastle

I had my first meeting today with the Ukrainian lady I've agreed to help. She is lovely. We communicated by Google translate. We have a shared interest in gardening and dogs. I know the situation back at home is very sad for her. She is coming to our house next Monday for a 'dog fix' and another 'chat'. Having tried to learn Ukrainian 2 years ago, I can understand the linguistic challenges she faces. Her hosts are also very kind people; she stayed with them 2 years ago, but returned home to nurse family. Now she's back here, she's missed much of the college programme. Not sure I can really help, but I will try.

It's a good thing to do @Penny_Forthem so I hope it works out.

Lovely photo @RowlandsCastle. I shall send it to the knitters at the club. As far as I can tell there is little observance of Armistice here in the Vendée, despite having a day off to remember it.

I hope you can get to see a neurologist @lizzie27. Not good to have continuing problems with your hand.

@Goldenlily26 It's good that Rob take shis meds easily. Our pair would take any meds I crushed up and mixed into a small tin of cat food. Left whole or just broken and Rasta would lick round it or spit it out.

Busy day for me with a committee meeting this morning. That went well except my pal the treasurer now says she'll end this academic year and not go on to do the next 3 years from next September when we all renew our mandates. Given our secretary is likely to go and one other lady is leaving the committee that leaves us needing 3 replacements including 2 willing to take on big jobs. I shall have to go fishing amongst the new ladies......

This pm was a Swiss embroidery workshop for some of us - embroidery on Vichy/gingham fabric. Very soothing to do.

Microsoft tells me someone's been messing with my email account to hack it so we've changed my password. OH looked up the history of today's activity and there are several attempts to hack me - from Russia! Ha!

                Good morning to everyone!

Dismal and grey automnale weather today. I have the 2-month follow up with the surgeon today. I am feeling good - some stiffness which is to be expected otherwise, in fine fettle!!

Hats off to you @Penny_Forthem What do you have to do to help this lady? English lessons, driving her to potential interviews? @lizzie27 and @redstar I hope your hands are better. Such a handicap. @Obelix-Vendée I used to do Swiss embroidery (amongst other hand crafts) and I really like it. Makes good Christmas presents - tray cloth etc. So there we are!! @Goldenlily26 Rob is bouncing back - they stress us out, then give us so much pleasure, don't they? It helps to have a sympathetic vet too. You must be full of general knowledge @Ladybird4 Maybe participate in Who Wants to be a Millionaire!!!

A very good morning to you, @Tui34 and everyone dropping by later. We didn't manage a win last night but I still enjoyed the fray. My mind seems to be full of all sorts of random snippets of general knowledge. Going way back in time when CEEFAX first arrived on the TV scene, anyone who remembers that will possibly know there was a gardening page and in the early days they had quizzes on there. I won several Readers Digest gardening books and a lawnmower amongst other things. I just love a quiz of any description! I have to 'fess up to knowing zilch about football though!
@Penny_Forthem, that is such a kind, generous thing to do and your assistance must be so welcome. Respect to you. @Obelix-Vendée, I hope that you find replacement volunteers for the posts that are going to be vacated. Its a bit of an uncertain time I'm sure. Good job Microsoft are on the ball in safeguarding your email.

It is my first nephew's birthday today - he is 45. I remember him when he was 3 days old, a little scrap with an amazing black, punk head of hair. His twin daughters have just started at his old alma mater.

Ah well. There went my plans for yesterday! I decided to call the vet re the next appointment for Rob to have his stitches out. Turns out he was due yesterday so I had to take him along at mid day. He was cleaned up but the stitches are not ready to come out yet so I have to take him back on Friday. I stopped off at the local Co Op on the way home to do a small shop. By the time we got home I had lost the impetus to do any gardening. C'est la vie!
It is ideal gardening weather so I felt rather guilty I was not out in the garden "leaping about"

                        Morning all,

yet another dreich start to the day. I do wish we could have a bit of sunshine, I find this wall to wall grey so depressing. Anyway, to try to cheer myself up, I plan to go in the garden today to put the dahlias to bed. They’ve flowered beautifully for so long this year, but the leaves are now yellowing on most of them and the flowers are almost finished. I noticed two beautiful yellow roses opened out this morning. They look so cheerful against the grey of the sky, so there’s some consolation.

I wish you luck finding new members willing to take on the vacant roles @Obelix-Vendée.
That’s a bit concerning regarding the Microsoft attempt, but at least Microsoft were able to warn you.

To any of you attending bonfires tonight, have a good time.

@Blue arbour, I am completely in agreement with you regarding the dismal grey days we are getting at the moment - correction, in my case virtually all this year. I did notice my sweetpeas are still flowering but Monty took his out weeks back. I'm going to bite the bullet and consign them to my compost bin today as they are looking very tatty now and the flowers are tiny. I was hoping for some seeds but suspect I have a non-fertile F1 variation. When we were travelling to the quiz last night there were loads of fireworks going off. I do not really understand why when today is the correct day. I do get people setting them off last weekend as that was probably the best time for workers to celebrate, but last night -

                            Good morning all.

No fireworks here last night but the sky is grey again here too. We were so lucky with the weather when we went on the river cruise.

I was surprised to see sweet peas in my friend's garden when we went there for lunch on Sunday. In France I've never got them to flower after June. The flowers all fell off in the heat, as do the runner beans.

We will be going into town this morning to get our calendars for next year. I can't plan without a calendar.

@Busy-Lizzie We've got a calendar from the sapeurs-pompiers who were round collecting on Sunday. We had to scramble to find cash as none of us really bothers any more. We'll also get a calendar of refuse collections for the year and I have my EXCEL planning calendar for patch activities. OH insists on sharing our dates on a Google calendar but I rely on memory and paper versions.

It's sunny here but I'm stuck indoors nursing a sore throat and doing admin. However I shall pop out to get some compost and soil conditioner later on.

i've only tried sweet peas here twice and they struggled, even out of full sun glare and hardly flowered. I sowed beans in our first spring and got nothing. Way too dry for sweetcorn too.

If I'd known about this year's weather, I'd have sowed some last spring and probably had a bumper crop!

I hope your surgeon is pleased with your progress @Tui34. Yesterday I discovered one of our ladies has a new hip and is very happy with it - one to add to the 6 knees and umpteen cataracts.

Grey and dull again, but I’m off to a talk, with afternoon tea, this afternoon. A mixed morning, we went to pick up my parcel from M and S, ordered six items, and at least three are going straight back. Very annoying. Two items, supposedly the same size but different colours, are at least two inches difference in length and width. Grrr.
However managed to get my preferred washing liquid on special offer, so that has cheered me up.
Hope everyone finds something to boost their spirits while the weather is so dismal. Better not watch the news tomorrow.
