    A late good afternoon,

After a brightish start, it turned very grey, wet and cold. We’ve a nice warming lamb tagine simmering in the slow cooker for dinner tonight.

Glad you eventually got your soup @Ladybird4 and that it was worth waiting for.

A sad day here, my SiL’s OH died in the early hours of this morning- totally unexpectedly. We’ve been with her all afternoon. Because he died at home and hadn’t been to hospital, a PM is required, so that will delay things.

What a year it’s been - my SiL (brothers wife) died in January, my BiL was diagnosed with cancer (but is thankfully responding well to chemo and surgery) and now this. I won’t be sorry to say goodbye to 2024, and sincerely hope there won’t be anything else.

Yay, @Goldenlily26 here's to the recovery of you both.
We met friends for a meal. It was all very nice, (a veggie wellington for me) but nothing was right for friend's hub. We felt quite embarrassed by his behaviour (in fact, we did wonder if there was a little dementia creeping in). However, we both said on the way home, never again. I shall see my friend as usual for our 'girlie' lunches!
Soup is the order of the day, next week, @Ladybird. Love our Aldi soup maker! Tesco is delivering the ingredients tomorrow. We are under snow warnings as, judging by your given location, you are too. We may see a flake, or not!

Just seen your post @Blue arbour. Condolences for your loss.

I'm sorry about your SIL's OH @Blue arbour. What a sad day you've had and a bad year too. I hope your SIL can cope. There is so much sorting out to do when an OH dies, just when you are at your lowest ebb.

I make soup like that @Ladybird4, in a large saucepan but I use a stick blender, quick and easy and better than pouring into a blender.

I've been cleaning the kitchen this afternoon, floor, cupboard doors, white goods like the dishwasher and washing machine, inside drawers etc. Now having a cup of tea while I type this.

Oh @Blue arbour, I am so very sorry to read your sad news. Coming out of the blue like that it must have come as a terrible shock to you all. Thinking of you and your family x
Sorry that your meal was a little unsettled by the behaviour of your friend @Penny_Forthem and I think you have made a sensible decision in not repeating that experience. Dementia is such a cruel illness though. I am battening down my hatches too and bracing myself for a snowfall. It never comes just for Christmas Day though when a bit of a white covering would make it feel more like the season.
D'oh @Busy-Lizzie, now you have made me feel like a right twonk! Why didn't I think about using my stick blender? I'll make a note in my diary!

I'm so sorry @Blue arbour and hope th erest of the year will be uneventful.

OH and I like soups but, like @Busy-Lizzie, I just use a stick blender, unless it's a chunky one like Cullen Skink or ribollita.

Much admin and scanning and sorting this pm ready for tomorrow but I'll need to do some serious cleaning this week and think about doing the windows, inside and out and all their frames.....

@Penny_Forthem sometimes dementia is easier to spot when you haven't seen someone for a while than when you live with or see them regularly. Doesn't make bad behaviour any more acceptable tho so you just have to avoid situations where it's a problem. I spotted MIL's dementia 3 years before FIL or nearby SIL were ready to recognise it.

Good morning for when you all arrive. Late home yesterday so didn’t post.

                  My condolences to @Blue arbour.

I’ve woken with a proper cold (I expected it as I had sore throat yesterday) so I’m just having a cuppa and paracetamol then back to bed for me.

I hope Monday is kind to you all. It’s going to be a chilly week for most of us.

                      Good morning all !!

Crisp but bright. No frost - I should cover the lemon tree as we could get a surprise frost.

                      Condolences to you @Blue arbour

Good morning, no frost here yet, quite a bit of rain in the night but lots more forecast for tonight. I need to get more of the tender plants into the greenhouse. Lots of tulips to plant in pots and container but I have been waiting for the exisisting plants to finish before ripping them all out.

                        Good morning all.

We've had a very small frost, dahlias and alstroemerias look a bit limp. Blue sky and cloud but the sun is behind a cloud.

My car is going to the garage today for a new dipped headlight bulb. Then we will go to Iceland for some party nibbles to eat as a first course with a drink in the sitting room before dinner in the dining room tomorrow with friends.

Well that was an interesting AGM exercise. 7 of us were voted in as trustees, much more complicated than I thought it would be but we got there. I didn't get home until 3.30pm, bushed again. Lovely to see some old friends, all complaining of feeling their age, nice to know I am not alone in that department.
I managed to get a load of washing dry, just as well, it is pouring at the moment. It was just beginning to rain as I arrived home. It is going to be indoor jobs today. I am going to make some bread and tea cakes and possibly do some cleaning.
