Thanks for the suggestion, @Obelix-Vendée . I've found a pet shop online which sells live mealworms. It looks as if they might take 3 days to arrive, though, and I'm not sure how they would cope with that. Local fishing shops are numerous but don't claim to stock live bait, which seems strange; I might have to visit a few...

      Evening everyone.

I hope your day wasn’t too draining @Allotment Boy - must be hard to see your girls upset.

Still cold here but set to change, but the storm sounds horrible so not looking forward to travelling to and from work in the dark and rain tomorrow.

Having homemade Katsu chicken tonight so looking forward to that.

      Take care folks.

@Liriodendron, you can always get dried mealworms and then soak them in warm water until they plump up and soften or just use them dry.
How is the dress coming along @Obelix-Vendée? Any room for a little one @AuntyRach?

I went into town intending to play canasta but when I got to the hall where we play there was noone in sight. It was rather spooky but at least I was able to get in as the local AA meet in one of the other rooms and I needed the loo. It wasn't a totally wasted visit though as I had to pick up a jumper I had bought online from the M&S Food Hall. I did a little more shopping then bussed it home. It was sleeting throughout that journey so I was glad when I got in. Signing out for this evening. I'll probably watch Monty then retire to read. Hope your day wasn't too upsetting for your OH @Allotment Boy. Have a warm and peaceful evening everyone and I'll catch up with you all tomorrow.

Love that T-shirt @Ladybird4! Been busy with other stuff today so didn't get to sewing till about 6pm so I've only managed the darts so far - 8 in the skirt and 6 in the bodice - before stopping to cook dinner. It's got Dolman sleeves and a straight skirt with a slit up the back so i can move.

I made a new recipe for garlic stir fried chicken with rice and spring onions and hoisin broccoli. Chicken very tender but flavour underwhelming so I'll do it again but with ginger and chilli. I should have known really - American recipe for low carbs by a cook who promotes Mediterranean cuisine.

Good idea about the dried mealworms. I tend to buy mine in fat blocks @Liriodendron but the blue tits go for them. Robins aren't good at swinging from feeders.

I've recorded GW for catching up later. Have a cosy evening everyone.

I tried dried mealworms last winter, and none of my garden birds would touch them, not even when I soaked them. Strange...

Good morning everybody. Storm Bert is arriving here as very heavy rain and strong winds. I have just heard a loud noise outside that sounds like thunder but I suspect it might be one of the wooden outbuildings from the empty livery stables one house along from me collapsing. Since the livery stables was bought up by the building compony - who have just had their building application refused - the place has become more and more dilapitated. So sad to see the gradual decline.
Today, I will be baking a honey cake for coffee/tea morning tomorrow and more than likely knitting too as it is not fit to go out. @Liriodendron, my robin and other small birds wolf down the dried mealworms in either the suet blocks or scattered loose which I provide for them but oddly enough no bird in my garden will touch fat balls.

                        Morning all.

Grey outside, looks wet but not raining now. It's a bit windy But not so cold.

Good dinner party last night, there were 9 of us, our hostess and 3 other couples. We knew them all. Our friend is a very good cook and she made mountains of food. We were late to bed.

It's the monthly farmers' market in the village hall today. I'd like to go when I can drag myself out of bed.

Just realised that we go back to France on Thursday and it woud be cheaper to send my Christmas cards from here to family and friends in the UK. Found that I don't have enough here so need to buy some. Better take some more back to France, cards are expensive there.

Meeting my cousin and her family for brunch at the local. Quite a novelty! We will be accompanied by Sid the chihuahua. He is rather a spoilt brat!
I have no idea what will be on the brunch menu!
No sign of Bert here yet.

Morning folks, it's horrid out there this morning so I'm not venturing out. OH did however and said the strong winds were coming from the east so full in his face on the way to the shops. He doesn't seem to mind bad weather.

Hope yesterday wasn't too distressing @Allotment Boy.

@Busy-Lizzie, your dinner party sounds fun, glad you enjoyed it. You've reminded me I must get some Xmas cards this week too as the family are meeting up earlier this year.

                            Enjoy your brunch @Penny_Forthem .

Tried to reply to you yesterday Lizzie27, our surgery has an online system for ordering medication, but if you add a message it cancels the original order. You have to do it twice!
