Dashed out to get some supplies this morning, but it’s pretty horrid here. Very windy and rainy. Extremely unpleasant. At least the snow has gone, but at least that was pretty. Brought home a Christmas sandwich to try, it was fine and I enjoyed it, but won’t be rushing to get another one soon. I’ve spent much of the afternoon sitting around reading, feeling guilty as I’m not getting anything constructive done. Maybe I’ll let myself off as it’s the weekend!

Afternoon all. We're largely post-Bert now, though it's still pretty windy. Mild, though, and dry this morning when I re-sited the pole for the seed feeder, which had blown over at quite an angle, in spite of being more than a foot in the ground. The birds didn't seem to mind breakfast at a strange angle though.

Reverting to bird food: I had to stop feeding anything containing suet, and only use a ground feeder, supervised, in very cold weather, because we've had rats. The sunflower hearts and peanuts, in feeders on tall poles, have so far foiled the rodents - or perhaps they just don't find them sufficiently appealing to bother trying to burgle them. So I'm hoping that I can hand feed the robin, keeping him safe from cats and magpies, and keeping the food away from rats and rooks...

Time for some more knitting, I think. Keep warm and safe, everyone.

Brunch was lubberly; 6 of us and Peanut (not Sid this time).
It was really rather lovely sitting with my cousins in a pub having brunch (especially since it's only 2 years since I found I have cousins!)
We are meeting again on 23 Dec for a festive feast.
Neighbours were at the next table. It was busy!
I had what they called a cub's portion, local butcher's sausage, bacon, home made hash brown, tomato (fresh, not tinned, thankfully), mushroom and egg and toast for £7.95. The toast was a step too far for me and I brought half the sausage home for the dogs.
Going to watch Joy this evening.

@Penny_Forthem, that sounds like a great 'meet up' today and I think that the price was excellent. Coincidentally, I am meeting three friends for lunch on 23rd December too. Just watched Strictly and shortly I'll be taking off to read. Keep those hatches battened down and I'll catch up with you all tomorrow.

Good morning everyone. Still wet here but I don't think the winds are quite so severe. Pleased to report that my cakes and puddings are already done and dusted. Need to get some apricot jam though before thinking about icing. I make these as 'gifts' for my family and friends. I hope everyone has a lovely day - I've a coffee/tea morning today.

              Morning all.
Still no Internet, which means no TV or landline. My French mobile has 4G on and off. We have fibre, the cable here is underground. There is a howling gale.

What wild weather! Walked out from work last night and it was warm and wet like a Summer storm (but dark).

I missed reading on here yesterday so I’m just catching up.

I’m going to invent a word for that situation when you go to pick your drinks mug up for a sip and it’s already empty! Happened twice this weekend!

                “Emp-tea” ?
                “De-caff” ?
                “Cup-a-dupe” ?

                Have a calm Sunday all.

Storm Bert arrived with avengance. Horrible outside. But milder! No dog walk.
Robbie looks lovely, after his bath. All soft, fluffy and white.
My son in law is going to have a look at my tap to see if he can change it. That means I have to dive head first into the cupboard under the sink to empty it so he can reach the underside of the sink. I dreading thinking what I might find in the depths. I recently found a small slug and some flaked almonds blue with mould in one cupboard Not nice. Time for action methinks. My kitchen only has 2 doors in it, one to the downstairs wet room and one into my store cupboard under the stairs which I created, desperate for more storage. It is open plan up the stairs and into the sitting room, however the sitting room has a door into the sun room, also double doors to the sunroom. As I discovered when I had the wet room put in, these jobs involve a lot of walking in and out of the house via the sunroom and front door.
                    Sun.
What a terrible day yesterday, a howling wind and torrential rain all day and night.
I emptied the cupboard under the sink, slow cooked a small joint of brisket and a small piece of gammon together and made a delicious fruit pie of mixed rhubarb, black currants and apple. I washed up in a bowl balanced on top of the cooker, used plastic trays as draining boards and waltzed around the 2 boxes of "stuff" from the cupboards. Had a lovely chat with a friend on the telephone for over an hour. She is being treated with weight control injections to enable her to have a knee replacement op. She has lost 2 stone but suffers from diverse side effects, I hope she is able to stick with the regime. She seems almost "in mourning" for the food she cannot eat. Such is the power of an established habit.
Worse weather forecast for today so I am not planning to go outside.

Hello folks, we've still got torrential rain (since Sat am) and forecast for more until 8 pm tonight so I'm not going out either. Woken up at 7 ish by strong gusts howling round the house. Had to get all togged up to rescue 8 small pots of violas, blown off the kitchen windowsill. I had forgotten them. Very wet compost all over the paving of course. We've now got a largish puddle underneath the bottom sleeper of the leaning sleeper wall so remedial work has been postponed till Thursday - weather permitting!

At least it's warm. Was 15c when we went to bed last night, bizarre.

                      Keep safe everybody.

Some of the entries for the Washington post competition are hilarious.
Waiting to hear if the snow has gone from the hills, then the dogs can get a proper run.
I had to laugh at your kitchen 'finds', @Goldenlily26. Been there, done that...
If you're doing stir up Sunday, anyone, enjoy!

Morning all (just). I think we have got off relatively lightly with the storm so far, we were woken by the intermittent roars if wind too.
Thanks for all the good wishes, as someone said it was seeing the girls so upset that was the hard part for me. We had the slightly unusual situation in that my wife and her exe remained on genuinely friendly terms. We all rubbed along very well, I know it was very difficult for her too, but he is at peace now. Apparently he said everyone should live as if they only have 3 months left you get a lot done.

                            It was - 4C a couple of nights ago, now it's + 16C.

A friend in church told us that the main power supply to our fibre supplier is down. I think it's in Essex.

At least we have electricity. Our church friend doesn't as the cable was attached to a wall of her barn, it's a farm, and the wall has blown down. She's coming to us for dinner this evening.

                              Good afternoon,
We avoided the worst of the stormy weather here, but it’s still breezy and showery, but extremely mild - a huge contrast from 2 days ago.
Had a very lazy day yesterday going nowhere and doing none of the indoor jobs I’d planned - hunkered down and watched tv instead. Been more proactive today, going to church, making bread and preparing tonight’s stew. I might wield the hot metal thing later, but might not .
Lunch time now, so I’d better go.

Woke in the night to hear an (empty) green bin getting blown over. The conifer in a pot outside the front of the house is on its side too. Pouring with rain, so it’ll have to stay there for a bit longer. I’ve managed to get some laundry done, but otherwise being lazy, and reading a lot. OH has been watching recordings of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, which has been on at silly times of the night. Sad I cancelled my trip to see daughter, but having seen the state of the trains today, it was a very sensible decision.
Liriodendron, we put suet nibbles aka ‘buggy bits’ in one of our bird feeders. I also put a few in a bag to take with me on walks at the Donkey Sanctuary. There is a section of footpath with a hedge much loved by robins. One or two or the friendliest ones often pop out of the hedge to greet us, and if I’m lucky, will take some suet nibbles from my hand. I couldn’t cope with handling mealworms, even dead ones!
I think this weeks green bins will get filled with twigs and small branches. The grass is littered with them. The leaves will be too wet to pick up easily, but after all the winds, the trees are a lot clearer now.
Hope all keeping safe and warm, and hopefully getting internet reconnected.
