@Songbird, how is your amaryllis doing? Mine is about 2.5cm (an inch in old money) tall now and there are two visible leaves. I'll take a picture tomorrow.

 

Thanks @lizzie27 but OH will probably want to match the gravel up with what will be/is next to it. It’s a larger gravel and has acted well over the years.

 

@Ladybird, it’s still tiddly and not looking too grand in my eyes. I’ll persevere with it a bit longer but if it doesn’t start putting on some more visible growth soon, I can see me giving up on it. Hope your cold is easing abit today.

Of my 3 amaryllis, planted on 11/11, one has 5cm leaves, one has 3 small shoots and one has the very tiniest of green, which hasn't grown for a few days, @Songbird

The one in a glass vase from Lidl (the cheapest of them all) is looking like it may flower for Christmas

 

Ah, I guess there’s still some hope for mine then @Penny_Forthem . Such slow growers aren’t they but good to hear one of yours may flower by Christmas.

 

Oooh don't give up on it @Songbird. It looks fine to me. just keep it warm and damp and it should keep going. Cold continues to leave me sounding like I've swallowed gravel but hey, it is a severe cold after all. I am signing out for today. Good night to you all and I'll catch you all tomorrow.

They still have Santa Lucia celebrations in Ireland, @Ante1 . My husband conducts a girls' choir which performs a Santa Lucia procession every year in the pre-Christmas concert. It's very effective in a candlelit church, all the girls wearing white and carrying (battery operated!) candles, following the girl with the wreath who represents Santa Lucia, all softly singing the traditional song.

3°C and still this morning. The sun has ruz so it looks to be a sunny day. Oh! These dark winter mornings!! I think @Ante1 starts school in the dark and probably finishes in the dark too.

 

Morning @Tui34, I just get envious when @Ante1 speaks of sunshine at this hour of the day - still pitch black here. Boo!
@Songbird, here is my reluctant amaryllis but I think I can almost see it growing now.

Morning early birds and those yet to arrive.

The Amaryllis brings back a memory of my Grandmother, who always had one at this time of year and we would all be excited if it was in bloom at Christmas (easily pleased in them days!). On that note, I caught a bit of ‘1970s Christmas’ tv prog last night - made me smile with nostalgia of being a 70s kid.

Morning @Ladybird4 I hope you are feeling a little less congested this morning. I'm pretty sure that it is dark when @Ante1 posts at 6.30am and when he leaves for school.
