I think it's safe to say they liked the pawtrait. I have offered to do one of his brother for their daughter.

      Good evening everyone.

Home from work, all showered and the loungewear is on. There’s loads of Flu about folks so really hope the vaccine will ward that off. I caught a bit on the radio with a virologist saying we are early with it this year but, if it was like two years ago, it should fizzle out early too.

I hope everyone has had a decent day and done their jobs/shopping/relaxing as required.

I am signing out for today. Its decided to hammer it down again so nothing new there then. Ons of my friend's OH was taken into hospital yesterday and they discovered he has Covid. He was transferred from the local hospital and is now in Preston in the AMU. I'm not exactly sure what his underlying condition is but I know he has to have regular blood transfusions. Fingers crossed they can get him all sorted and he gets home soon.

Afternoon all. Well, yes, maybe evening is more appropriate, since it's been dark for a little while. It's been a busy couple of days, but now I'm relaxing with a cuppa, so I've been catching up with your posts.

Thank you, @Ladybird4 - I forgot my fingerless gloves when I went to clean the church, but the rest of me was warm enough from vigorous sweeping and polishing. The windy weather had brought down a lot of "stuff" from the roof beams, and the porch was full of wet beech leaves, so those have been removed. Perhaps the leaves will have blown back in by tomorrow, because it's pretty stormy today.

Hooray! The electrician turned up, and repaired the ceiling light. It appears just to have been a loose connection, though he's mystified as to why it tripped the lighting circuit.

My robin is very pleased. I had to order sunflower hearts from a new supplier this time, and they sent a block of chopped mealworms in suet as a free gift! I put some out in a saucer when I filled the feeders, and it's all gone.

No Strictly... I shall have to find something else to occupy me this evening...

Possum had her flu and Covid jabs yesterday morning @AuntyRach, before we set off to spend the day in Nantes. She ended up with 2 tender arms for the day but is fine today. We began with a hunt for jeans just south of Nantes then managed to park in the centre in time for a good lunch - Le Cochon Qui Fume - which specialises in traditional pork dishes and other brasserie food, all local produce and recipes

Thence to the shops and then the Xmas market. Does anyone wear normal shoes anymore? I've been keeping my eye out for some but it's either clodhoppers, ankle boots or stilettos! I did find the teeniest shop ever selling long socks in a gallery of shops off the main pedestrian street. Just a wall of socks and space for 2 chairs behind their window.

The Xmas markets are increasingly food and drink fests but we did find the NZ lady selling freshwater pearls and paua shell jewellery which has the most extraordinary shades of blue and turquoise. Maybe next year for that. We also found our annual treat of authentic baklava. Really must learn how to make that.

Mild day again today and a wee shopping trip for Possum and me this morning for stuff she didn't find yesterday then more window and shutter cleaning for me after lunch but the sun has set so early I still have some left to do tomorrow. Possum has been gathering herbs and a special log to burn in the fireplace at sunset and wants a gold candle lit for dinner.

OH wanted a bigger tree this year. Now he says he needs to move "his" sofa so he can see the TV round it.

'Course they liked your pawtrait @Penny_Forthem!

I hope you and all other medics have a quiet Xmas at work @Aunty Rach.

@Allotment Boy Our CH system doesn't go on till November so, at the annual service, chappy said we should turn on all the radiators to max before starting it so that every radiator got flushed thru and only then should thermostats be turned down or off in each room according to need. Worked for us. Hope you get yours fixed.

According to the weather forecast @Ladybird4, today and tomorrow are equal length but sunrise and sunset are later tomorrow and the zenith is also 30 secs later. I guess that's why the ancients waited a few days past the solstice to be sure before celebrating the longer days.

            Have a lovely evening everyone.

Good morning everyone. Well I had a disrupted night as the severe wind was rattling the tiles on my roof and this always make me a bit concerned. When its light I'll go out before Church to find out if all is OK and the bins are still upright. Hope everyone else slept well.

Another sunny and very cold morning. I slept well whole night, probably because we spent few hours yesterday on the snow. It was very pleasant. Nothing special at schedule today, I'll only make biscuits with caramel and chocolate. Everything else is prepared. Wish you all a lovely Sunday, and if you miss snow, here it is.

Morning @Ante1. Loving all your pics! If I could get down I would love to make a snow angel. I might get down just by falling over but the getting up could be a dreadful spectacle!

                      Morning all.

@Ante1's snow looks very pretty, but I'm glad we don't have any!

                      Glad your electrician arrived @Liriodendron.

We had a good lunch with Son 2 and his family, 5 children, yesterday. He took us to the Golf club restaurant which was full of families, so very suitable!

It's a lot easier to type on my new phone. The old one kept putting accents on letters or changing letters to look like Greek ones. I kept having to correct what I wrote. Also it kept changing the page I was on so I lost my posts.

I just wish they had had a cover for it, it's slippery and I'm scared of dropping it. If I can't find one here I'll order one online or get one in the shop in Diss when we go back in January.

Church this morning, followed by coffee and mince pies.

Forecast is rain for the day. Sounds very wet and windy outside.

                        Morning everyone.

The snow is pretty but I don’t want any either!

I’ll be doing some present drops and visiting today. We’ve decided that my niece can open her presents from me today as I won’t see her next week.

I hope everyone has a pleasant day.

Morning. A very disturbed night due to wind... not me you understand, the banging, rattling kind. Seems to have blown itself out this morning, despite forecasts for 60mph gusts.

I have one sub on my Tesco order; a smoked bone in smoked gammon joint instead of a boneless one. It's more than double the weight and I am worried that, with my arthriticky wrists, I might drop it. OH to the rescue, then for taking it from oven and carving it. I remember my gran doing them at Christmas for the family, covered in lurid orange breadcrumbs. I might stud mine with cloves and anoint it with honey and mustard. It's for family on Boxing day.

That should be all the shopping done for a few days.
Please keep your snow to yourself, @Ante1 !!

Hello all, it's very windy and rainy here as well, but i think it's going to improve for all of us for Christmas day. Love your pictures of the snow @Ante1, I live near the Pyrenees mountains and the snow has been late to arrive this year but most of the ski stations are due to open now for those that enjoy that sort of thing - not for me, I just like to look at the snow!
@Busy-Lizzie you can buy phone cases on line, just make sure you buy the right one for your make because of the camera windows at the back.

Morning all, no snow here, we have sunshine! It's very windy outside though so I've sent OH out to get the paper on his own - it might blow me over!
We enjoyed our buffet lunch with friends yesterday. Couldn't believe that we drove right through the city without any hold-ups, the next town was also okay but the third, oh dear. One of the roads through the centre is closed for 3 months and it's causing havoc as all the main roads go through the centre and there is no other easy way around the town. Took us 40 mins to go perhaps 2 miles. However, we saw some daffodils in bloom whilst we were queuing, such a pretty sight outside some flats. Mine are still only about two inches high.

I pity all the poor people trying to fly from Heathrow this morning, 100 planes have been cancelled, 7 cross Channel ferries and all the Irish/Scottish/Welsh ones, a nightmare.

OH has just got the tree down from the loft and decorations out of the Xmas cupboard for me so that's my main job for today. I'll do some more washing as well and find a lighter weight duvet for my daughter - wherever I've stashed it away.

Have a good day everyone and if you're travelling, stay safe.

I too had a bad night thanks to the wind howling and whistling round the house so slept late again. It's been sunny spells so far with the wind still gusting and rain due this pm.

I've been pottering about tidying, mending a drawer, general pottering and roasting marrow bones and whole heads of garlic for a soup for tomorrow's lunch tomorrow. This pm it's the last of the windows and all the mirrors, not necessarily in that order then Xmas tree lights and decs.

Your snow is lovely @Ante1 but, like @floralies, I prefer to admire it from afar these days tho I do still have my snow boots and ski wear, just in case I go anywhere cold.

Good luck to anyone travelling for the hols. Not my idea of fun.
