Happy Boxing Day everyone. It is supposed to be sunny with a stiff breeze but we have pale grey skies, it's almost still and feels damp. We had planned a long walk on a beach this afternoon but will probably leave that till tomorrow now. It is very mild and I have several roses flowering, tho weakly.

Other than accidents with red wine I hope everyone's Xmas is going well and belated happy birthday @Ladybird4.

Excellent news @floralies. I remember how worried you were so you must be feeling very relieved now.

@floralies that news beats the lot. My very best wishes to your son.
Accidents aside, I hope all your celebrations went smoothly.
I have just been to the greenhouse to pick our new potatoes, which we're having with the family buffet. Picking new potatoes on 26th Dec is one of life's little pleasures.
Finishing off the meal with trifle! Ages since I made one!

            Good afternoon,

I hope you’re all enjoying Boxing Day. It’s a bit misty here, and was very foggy earlier. The sun makes a brief attempt, but is struggling. Previous Boxing Days we’ve had a run to the coast or the grounds of a local country house (National Trust), but it’s not the weather to be travelling far in unnecessarily, so we might postpone that to next week.

That’s excellent news, @floralies, the best. I wish your son continued good progress.

Thanks for the tips regarding the carpet. I did soak a lot of the stain using kitchen roll, then sprinkled on some baking soda. This helped a lot, but it still did require the carpet shampooer. It’s still drying this morning, but I think it’s going to be ok. The wall will probably need a repaint at some stage as it’s Matt paint, but some good old washing up liquid gently applied has helped a fair bit, so the marks are not quite so obvious. I know they’re there, though, so a repaint job come the finer weather, I think.

I’m not a wine drinker but is it true that if you spill red wine the best solution is to pour white wine over it?

I have heard of that white wine tip but don't know if it works @Bluejayway. I always use lots of kitchen paper for spills, especially for pet accidents on carpet and sick people. I also keep cat litter to hand for the latter as it's brilliant for soaking up the nasties. (sorry!).

It's extremely foggy and chillier here so we only ventured out for our usual morning walk. Daughter however had arranged to meet her brother and his family at a half way point today so I'm hoping she'll be okay driving in it. She was extremely pleased with the rusted metal firepit pressie we gave her, hope there's room enough in her car to take it home with her, it's big. I'm so relieved as I wasn't 100% sure she hadn't already got one!

I've put all the boxes of chocolates and biscuits we received in the spare bedroom out of sight as I know from past experience, once opened, they don't last long!

Unfortunately my pressie to OH, a rather nice padded cotton gilet in his usual M & S size was too small so I'll have to change it. Most annoying, especially as he's lost weight.

Hope you all have a good day.

Good afternoon all. @floralies, that must be the best most magical Christmas present ever for you and yours. I am delighted for you.
@Blue arbour, we had thick fog here too and the matrix signs on the M6 were warning of it when I nipped down to see my sister. (Note to self: do not park under the tree on Sis' drive again as I swear a pterodactyl with diarrhoea could only have been the cause of the 'christening' my car received)
@lizzie27 I am going to have to do similar to you as I have received enough gorgeous sweet treats to last until Easter.
@Bluejayway, my sis-in-law swears by the white wine over a red wine spill but I have no proof!

@Bluejayway I think white wine works better if drunk than spilled, hopefully, over red wine.

Salt or baking soda sprinkled generously will absorb much of the red wine quickly and mopping up with paper towels will do the rest. Vacuum clean thoroughly and, if necessary, use a little white vinegar on remaining stains.

Great present for you daughter @lizzie27 . Possum thinks we need one too. Might be worth getting one if it gets her outside and away from her screen!

It was the bargain of the year @Obelix-Vendée, £80 reduced to £12 back in September. We were told that the garden centre had over ordered loads which remained unsold because of the poor summer so they reduced the lot. She'd always wanted one since she moved to her new rental during Covid. Has a big, terraced and gravelled front garden with a beautiful view where she sits out in the summer, just the job.

                            Family just gone.
We've had a lovely day, though we (he) had a bit of a mishap when he got the bacon slicer out to slice prosciutto - he sliced his finger instead. He's on blood thinners, so it was gushing. Got the first aid kit, but could not find plasters big enough...thinking A and E by this time. Luckily, several plasters and tape later, it stopped.
The rest of the day has been uneventful.
Few chocs here, but I have discovered Belazu nuts with truffle and pecorino. I always say I am not a nut lover, but hey, I'm a convert to these.

I hope everyone is doing ok this Boxing Day. I had a cheeky nap after work so only just getting up again. We had a fabulous bubble and squeak last night, so tonight I’ll warm some ‘bake-at-home’ rolls to have with the rest of the leftovers. Last shift of the week tomorrow thank goodness!
