Hope all enjoying Boxing Day. We had a very relaxed lunch, mainly leftovers, and none of the pressure of yesterday (despite there only being the two of us!)
Christmas can be bittersweet, remembering times past, but I do try to introduce some new things to keep the nostalgia to a sensible, but not overwhelming, level.
Looking forward to daughter and son in law arriving tomorrow. Hope the fog has lifted before their journey. I’m trying to get enthusiastic about my planned menus for the weekend, but after yesterday and today, the last thing I want to think about is food!

I was just clearing away the leftovers and dinner things and the fridge looks bare now. I haven’t done my ham yet though so that’s something to have on weekend, but I agree @Ergates - I’m done with food prep for a bit!

A very good morning to you all. Today is my sis' birthday - the older of my two sisters and it was her I visited yesterday. The fog got thicker and thicker yesterday afternoon/evening and now it is still hanging around -more like November than December. I am not sure what I will be doing today but like @Ergates and @AuntyRach I won't be doing any food prep.
          Love the picture @Penny_Forthem!

            Good morning all.

Yesterday was very animated with all my grandchildren. We went for a walk after lunch which turned out to be rather muddy because a large dog appeared on the road and barked and growled at us. The children were afraid so we took a footpath across the fields instead which was quite a long walk. Glad most of us were wearing wellies.

I got some lovely presents. Son 2 and his wife gave me a beautiful duvet set, white with pictures in blue of wild roses with little birds in them. Our bedroom is blue and white. Daughter 1 gave me a box full of things for gardeners, such as seeds, gardening gloves, scissors, hand cream etc.

We are going home after lunch today. I don't think I will need to eat for a week!

              Good morning everyone!!

What a lovely bright morning although we have had a light dusting from Jack Frost!!

Good news for you @floralies What a relief. I expect he is on good advice with regards to getting back into shape. The weather down here has been lovely. Cold but sunny and NO wind!!

I wish you all a pleasant day.

The gardening goods sound very interesting @Busy-Lizzie and your day sounds full of new memories - even if one is of a rather naughty dog!

Thank you everyone who sent me sympathies and support. I still feel pants but know I just have to work my way through it. It is heart breaking to see the cat wandering around the house and garden calling and looking for Robbie.

I hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas however they spent it. I went to my daughter and son in law where we shared it with a couple from Russia, friends from their dive club. The couple left their homeland 30 years ago with 2 very young children, spent several years travelling the world before finally settling in the UK. Sadly their decision to leave Russia caused irreparable divisions in their families so it was fascinating to hear their points of view on the current situation and hear about their life in the Red Army pre Putin time etc. before the husband was signed out of the army. We compared family histories and discovered they were amazingly similar. Great grand fathers signing up as boy soldiers and becoming life time soldiers, never talking about their experiences etc.
The dishes they brought to go on the table were yummy!

My family gave me a splendid set of 5 pans, Oh dear, that means I have throw away my old dilapidated set. It is a standing joke I never throw anything away. I think I might be taken under armed escort to the tip. not "ALL" of the non stick surface has fallen off and they might be useful for something.
My daughter asked me to look out some old photos of her father she could use as talking points and memory stimulators as he is beginning to become forgetful. It is really difficult for children to watch their parents slipping away from them. My ex was always behind the lens but I am sure I will find one or two for her.

No need for any serious cooking for several days, so much left overs to clear up. I am hoping to do more gardening this year. I have said that for the last 5 years so not sure I will but the thought is there.

@Goldenlily26 it makes me so mad when people say animals aren't sentient - politicians seem to be the worst offenders - because, as your wee cat has demonstrated, they are. And you cannot comfort them.
It was most obvious yesterday that Maisie had forgotten who the kids were (and it's not long since she saw them) and she was looking most frail. She did, however, thoroughly enjoy her giblet dinner!

Hello all, thank you for your kind thoughts regarding my son.
We have sat in thick fog for two days, it lifted enough this morning to go and do some essential shopping but it's now coming down again. The wing mirrors on the car have decided to stop working and the mirror on one has fallen out, why can't they just be simple like they used to be when you just adjusted them by hand. Another trip to the garage and we've only just had four new tyres fitted for a ridiculous price. :mute:
