Or you could have reduced the cooking time @Liriodendron ! I do a lot of scaling up from 8 and 9 inch round cake tins to 10 inch square and their metric equivalents. It's just about the only time I find geometry useful

True, @Obelix-Vendée, but the cake would have ended up very thin... and it's intended to feed 10 people, though the 4-year-old might find it a bit un-sweet.

Despite having prepped in good time for our visitors, still spent over an hour having a final mop round and finding more stuff to put away. Quick trip to the supermarket for salad stuff and milk, but still had time for a short nap before daughter and her OH arrived. They had a very foggy drive, which took an extra hour, but arrived safely. We’ve had a delicious dinner, did some quizzes, and now retired to bed. Still a bit hyperactive but will try to get off to sleep soon.
Hugs to @Goldenlily26, and anyone else missing loved ones over Christmas.

Good morning everyone. It does look as if the fog has gone but I can see drizzle on the windows. @Liriodendron, I hope you have a super day today with your visitors and I hope that @Ergates got a decent nights sleep.
I am intending to get the hyacinths transferred into a bigger pot this morning as they are busting out of the teeny weeny pots they are in at present. I will do similar with the pretty begonia. Pictures later!

            Good Morning to all.

I’ve ordered some food shopping on click and collect as I’m guessing the SMs will be busy today. I’m not against going back into my PJs for the day after that excursion. I have some new logic puzzle books which I might start today. I’m thinking pastries, coffee and puzzles this afternoon then.

Have a good ‘in-between’ weekend everyone, whatever you have planned.

I heard them refer to these days as 'twixtmas' on the Beeb this morning. Not sure whether this term will grow on me or not.
Been into the garage to get compost and pots ready for today's task. Decided I would wimp out and work in the kitchen as it IS drizzly outside and the temperature in the garage is on a par with my fridge. I'll let the compost come to kitchen temperature before the replanting.

Slept with the window wide open last night and woke to lots of lovely birdsong, Roll on spring!
It's a perfect day for a run with the pooches in the hills.
@Ladybird4 not sure about twixtmas either.

By the time we've had our usual cooked breakfast for Saturday lunch it will feel like a normal weekend here so no Twixtmas for us thank you very much. Sounds fake, like a marketing ploy.

It is cold here and grey again but there is paler grey to the south, the cloud cover is higher and the air doesn't feel wet. I'm sticking with indoor jobs tho as the soil is cold, wet and heavy. Maybe a walk later on.

Whatever you do, have a lovely day. Hugs, as always, to those feeling poorly or bereft.

                    Good afternoon to you all!!

After a chilly -1°C this morning and of course a frost - it is a beautiful sunny day. About 13°C/14°C and no wind.

Quiet afternoon and a walk with the dogs - as I have nurse neighbours lad "en pension". Such a good boy.

Afternoon all, we decided not to visit my son and his family just in case so phoned my son to tell him and he sounded terrible. I think he's probably got the dreaded flu so do hope his wife and daughter don't catch it as well.

It was still foggy here earlier so quite glad we didn't have a two hour drive. It's starting to clear now and tomorrow is forecast to be better. Having a nice, relaxing day instead reading the newspaper and pottering. It's not nice enough to do anything in the garden.

Sadly, we heard this morning that an old friend of ours is back in our nearby local hospital and unlikely to survive - cancer again. We've offered his wife a bed if she needs it as they live a good 15 miles or more away. Having to drive right through the city is an additional stress she could well do without.

Might have to stir myself soon and make some more mincepies.

I did wake in the night for an hour, but read a book, and then slept through till 9am. Visitors didn’t surface till nearer 10am, so a very relaxed start to the day. We have been down to Sidmouth, had a very enjoyable walk on the seafront, despite the cool temperature and the grey skies. Lots of other people out and about too, so I got to pet lots of dogs! We had coffee, hot chocolate and cakes in a cafe, then sauntered about town, and strolled through the park. All looked very atmospheric, the sea was as flat as a pancake, and we saw a grebe fishing just off the shore. Home recovering now, before dinner ( chicken kyivs with homemade trifle to follow).
Tomorrow, son and daughter in law will arrive for lunch, accompanied by the teenage grandson, and the elderly dog. I must make up a bed for her in the hall, so she can snooze in peace, once she has finished begging for scraps.
Can’t believe we will be back to our normal routine on Tuesday. Although I think there will be a lot of leftovers to work our way through.
That’s sad, @lizzie27. His wife will appreciate the offer to stay nearby.
I’d definitely be in my PJs too, if I were you, @AuntyRach! I have discovered some very comfortable navy blue velour tracksuit pants in my wardrobe, bought very cheaply as a set from Lidl years ago. They look smart enough to pass as proper trousers, but with all the comfort of pyjamas! I must buy more if they come up for sale again.

So sorry to read of your friend @lizzie27 and bless you for offering somewhere more handy for his wife to stay if needed. @Ergates, over the years I have bought M&S jogging pants - collectively called my gardening scruff - and they are perfect for just chilling out in. I live in them when at home. Easy to wash, quick to dry and super plus point, no ironing! I will certainly keep a look out in Lidl now.

I love the type of PJs that would pass as casual trousers - I call them ‘loungewear’. You don’t feel like you’re being lazy then, just comfy!

That’s is really kind of you @lizzie27 - travelling and parking add so much stress when a loved one is in hospital.

I’ve got my ham on the simmer (in apple juice) and I’ll finish it off in oven later. I think chips and coleslaw with some tonight will be tasty.
