    Morning all.

Cold and foggy again. Afternoon forecast is only 2C. Warmer in Norfolk but it looks as though that will change next week when we are there, may be some snow.

We need a few things from the SM, like milk and loo rolls, not a big shop as we are off to daughter's again on Thursday to pick up grandson to take to England on Friday. HW this afternoon.

We enjoyed going to tea with friends from church yesterday. We have known them for a few years and they came to my old house for a charity event I did but that was the first time we'd been to their house. They were over an hour from our old house, now under 15mins away. We started with mulled wine then went on to tea. They had invited another couple too who also go to the church here.

Good morning everyone, I've been looking in but not posting the last few days.
Well we survived the shopping, entertaining, visiting etc, but not entirely incident free. We managed without the radiator in the spare room but the "stick" vacuum cleaner decided to stop working, luckily we could drag out the old corded one ( actually I prefer it but my wife finds it too heavy nowadays). The real problem issue was the combi microwave oven. My wife had noticed some little flashes a couple of time , we assumed that it was a dish or something we were using, on Christmas eve she was halfway through making a chocolate cheesecake (melting the chocolate) and suddenly we were treated to a full on fireworks display. Having isolated the power, I looked inside and there was bright glow at the back, this faded quickly, so I looked into the depths with a torch to see the perforated vents at the back had eroded and formed a continuous jagged slot, the coating had obviously broken down and exposed bare metal. Fortunately one daughter was able to lend us a spare microwave they have.
So we've had to go shopping for a new one, we ended up with this combination microwave and oven by default some years ago because we couldn't find anything else to fit in the space, but we have found it very useful, we use the oven more than the main one now, and as you can use functions in combination it can be very economical to use. The best example is using fan oven and microwave together, cuts the cooking time of a small to medium chicken in half, but it still has the character of a roast chicken.
Once again though it's not simple as finding one to fit in the space is a challenge, even the direct replacement from the same manufacturer is different.

        Morning folks.

My vacuum started playing up too @Allotment Boy - always something breaks over C’mas! We have a spare old one but it’s not as good as the clip attaching the pole stick thingy to the main tubing (technical term lol) is a bit loose plus there’s no ‘stairs’ attachment. First world problems.

I’m off to do Dad’s foot pamper/podiatry then a quick look round in Diddly-Dee.

        Have a good day everyone.

Morning. I woke at 4.50 to really gusty winds. Sure they weren't in the forecast. All calm out there, for now.
I don't have to visit the shops till the new year, as I have a Tesco delivery tomorrow. We don't need much anyway, mainly basics.
I find our Shark too heavy to use, so I bought a Gtech, which is light and very good, even with pet hair.
Good luck finding a replacement oven @Allotment Boy
          Have a good day, everyone

Morning all, a very cold one with a heavy frost, the first of the winter. I noticed some very large cobwebs this morning so I thought I would be industrious and do some dusting! Everywhere seems to look so grubby at this time of year especially the windows with the sun being so low. I did push the stick vacuum round as well, corded ones are to heavy for me these days. Mine is quite an old D***n, it's had one set of rechargeable batteries renewed and works well when OH doesn't clog it up with plaster etc! I hope you can find a replacement microwave @Allotment Boy to fit in that space, otherwise you may have to re-arrange your kitchen!
OH thinks it's warm enough to continue conifer hedge pruning - I will stay indoors

BTW, I forgot to say the kettle is playing up as well! Even with cold water in it you put the switch down and it clicks straight back up. After a bit of fiddling it works. Next time it's fine!!!!.
Yes @floralies we have considered re- arrangement of the kitchen too:noidea:

@Allotment Boy, my kettle has been doing exactly the same. I've just been to Sainsbobs and bought a new one in the sale. Put the old one on when I got in for a brew, and it worked perfectly!

Busy in Diddly-Dee today. The stollen and festive sweet things were reduced. I’ve still got some C’mas tree shaped iced biscuits left over, which seem unseasonal already (don’t worry - they will be eaten).

No, not unseasonal @AuntyRach, we’re only on day 6 of the 12 days of Christmas so you’ve still got time

My decorations (not that many) are coming down on the weekend, and would be sooner if I wasn’t in work. Oops, I should keep that for the Grinch thread

Good evening all. It has been a really nice day today. I went to visit my friend who I used to take to play Canasta until her sight started failing badly. Her OH has been in hospital since 20th December. He has been very poorly with pneumonia and Covid. He suffers from chronic lymphocytic leukaemia so she was very worried about whether he would get home either today or tomorrow. He has to have regular blood transfusions to help with his CLL. She was still waiting to hear from him when I left and I haven't heard anything further from her as yet. We did have a lovely catch up though. I did have to smile when I had to use her bathroom as on the window sill she has a slate blackboard in the shape of a cat with some sticks of chalk by it and the 'invitation' to add a bauble to the slate. So I did!
Dear me @Allotment Boy, what a lot of bad luck you have had over this Christmas season. Fingers crossed all will run more smoothly after this.

I’ve been lurking, but no time or energy to post! Now have time but no energy!
Weekend guests have gone home this afternoon, and it’s time to return to normal. Busy day yesterday with two offspring, their spouses, and the two grandsons. All went well, food all got cooked nearly to plan, and I was reminded to check the kitchen before settling down to lunch. Sure enough, large bowl of peas hiding in the microwave!
Everyone liked their presents, and we spent part of the afternoon playing Bananagrams, even the teenagers loved it. Really enjoyed having the whole family together.
The perishable leftovers have been finished off, so back to lighter and simpler meals from tomorrow. I’m not planning to celebrate New Year, I find it rather depressing so I shall ignore it.
Planning a very early lights out tonight!

Hello all, just pottered about today, some gardening, some washing and ironing and some tidying up.
I'll take down the decs on Jan 2nd if I feel like it, otherwise they can wait. We don't celebrate New Year either other than a toast to each other.

I don't seem to have a lot of energy either @Ergates, think it's that time of year for slumping!
Weather not too bad fortunately, saw a bit of sunshine around lunchtime, then it clouded over again. Not looking forward to the forecasted cold snap. Busy planning what I would like to do in the garden next year.

Sorry to hear about your friend's husband @Ladybird4. Our friend is still hanging on in there, the medics are trying different treatments.
