Hello @Ladybird4. I was a teacher too, in my previous life!
My sleep patterns are a bit erratic, but I usually get enough sleep each night. I think early morning, when the birds are starting their chorus is often the best time of the day. I 'share' my cuppa with them, IYSWIM.

@Busy-Lizzie and @Ladybird4 it is not the timing of light and dark (dusk) that seems to bother me but rather the actual hour that throws me out of whack. To climb into bed at what my body says is 11pm only to find that it is midnight makes me feel that I'm going to lose sleep. Same in the morning when I wake at 6am only to find the clock says 7am - I have lost an hour of the day. Totally stupid I know but then I was always an oddball! I think it comes from having spent my life with horses, for their well being we had feed times exactly at 6, 12, 6 and 12 over a 24 hour period. On the approach to the summer clock change I had to spend at least the week before slowly stretching the feeding times trying to fool them. Can you imagine what would have happened if a yard of horses awoke expecting their food only to find that they suddenly had to wait another full hour?? There would have been loud and noisy objections I can tell you. :gaah:
@Obelix-Vendée I can never understand the idea about the school children and the time they leave school at the end of the afternoon either. The 'little ones' leave school early enough and are mostly collected by a parent. The older ones are usually out by 4pm at the latest and are well on their way home by 4.30 when it is still mostly dusk, certainly not dark dark, and can surely be expected to find their way home.

Apologies for the rant, dont ay any attention to me, as I said - I'm just an oddball! Have a good Saturday whatever you have planned.

@Anna42 in the past, my cats would be completely thrown out by the hour change and they would let me know so I think with horses it would be a monumental noise.

What a gorgeous start to the day! I've already put my little tomatoes out in the greenhouse for the day, and will shortly head for the local garden centre/nursery to stock up on compost etc....my new Daphne needs moving to a bigger pot! Who knows what may fall into my trolley.....
This afternoon OH is planning to head to our field and give the grass a first cut, and I will probably be mulching.....

KayJ, your description of your OH's task today brought that wonderful scent of freshly cut grass to mind.

                    Hi all

Stunning day here, after a heavy frost. The Peak District will be heaving, being Easter, so we will not be venturing out, but I will continue potting up my myriad of Dahlia.
Glad you made it over here, @PatE

Out for breakfast after two days stuck at home because of the bad weather. Noticeably busier today now the school holidays have started, and the sun is out as well. The big puddle on the patio has gone this morning, so the soakaway seems to be doing its job again. I might try and get out in the garden for a while later, the ground will definitely be soft enough to pull out some brambles, but I’ll now have to be careful not to go anywhere where I might disturb birds nests. The robins have been disappearing in and out of the bank, and we had a chiffchaff nest in it last year.
Hope everyone has a peaceful and enjoyable Easter weekend.

@Ergates, how lovely to have busy birds to watch. I have never seen a chiff chaff in my garden - heard them when I've been walking over the fields (along with yellowhammers) though. I get dunnocks, great and bluetits, robins and wren nesting in my garden. I suspect that magpies have been scoping out the hawthorns at the bottom of the garden which I have left to grow as trees. I love this time of year!

                          Good morning all,

I finally caught up with all the posts! :rolleyespink:

Lots of great things going on for most of you, enjoy.

We had a terrible storm here last night, hail, lightening, thunder and torrential rain. I had to unplug the wifi box, I've lost it so many times through storms. My neighbours house, less than 5 minutes away was struck by lightening and caught fire, I've seen it this morning, the roof is completely gone, luckily no one was hurt, but what a terrible thing to happen. I'm still waiting for the builders to fix my chimney after my house fire in January, I've no idea how long they might have to wait.

Charlie is on his way over to me after his driving lesson, he is just here for today, I have to work Sunday and Monday, but I am going to ask his dad if I can have him Monday evening before he goes back to school, seeing as we have an extra night of him this week, we'll see, his dad doesn't adapt well to change in routine.

Anyway, Happy Easter to you all, I am finally beginning to feel normal and am hoping to enjoy some cake and maybe a nice meal with Charlie today. I've bought him a bag of little chocolate eggs and my friend in the UK has secured some Cadbury's creme eggs for us too for when we get there in May.

The risk of disturbing birds is a problem for us this year @Ergates as with the weather we’ve had we didn’t find the time to trim the shrubs before the nesting season. Usually the Robins use the nest box but they have decided to use the yew. The blackbirds are in the Bay Laurel in the back garden and in the Choisya in the front garden.
