What a frightening thing to happen to your neighbour @Dordogne Damsel . What's on the menu at the restaurant?

@Coccinella, I decided to take advantage of the nice morning and get some washing done so I'm not holding my breath about it staying sunny!
Eek, I have heard on TV this morning that we are being advised to freeze Easter eggs for next year! Apparently the failure of the cacao crop for the third year running is causing prices to rise and chocolate eggs to shrink and become more expensive. Noooooooooooooo! :gaah:

I hope the weather holds for you. Laundry dried outside is one of my things, unfortunately only in full summer here.

Everything has become expensive, washing powder is another thing. Did you by chance see the tv programme about the chocolate biscuits' wars of the 70s, and their inventive ways of reducing chocolate content.

I missed that one @Coccinella. I do know that since Cadbury's was taken over in 2010 that the taste and therefore enjoyment of their chocolate was definitely diminished. Creme eggs have never been the same!

I love the scent of fresh-cut grass too, @Ladybird4, but he might have a bit of a job on his hands....the grass has got very long and lush with all this wet weather! We're hoping the wind will dry it out a bit, and that it doesn't rain! Still, the mower started first time, which is a good omen!

Visit to the GC resulted in no new plants, but three bags of horse poop, a bag of topsoil, a bag of grit, and a bag of peat-based compost.....I've been insisting on buying peat-free for the past several years but I'm yet to be totally satisfied with the results, even with the dear ones....and some have been disastrous! Since there is still no ban, and since the bagged peat-based compost has already been cut and someone has to buy it, I'm going for the cheaper option and will do a comparison by sowing and growing on a tray each of some cosmos in the Betagro and the Sylvagro to see if there's any difference!

Just started digging over the overgrown end of the veg patch …neglected for over a year … it’ll take a while but it’s lovely loamy soil and the ‘weeds’ come out fairly freely. I’ve got a large heaped wheelbarrowful already …

Im not going to overdo it tho … being aware of other folks’ poorly backs and ‘unaccustomed as I am’ etc … a bit at a time will do …

Morning all, it's a lovely day here, sunny but still cool and I've already been out pottering, picking off a few deadheads, pulling a few weeds and just seeing what's growing. Next job is to get myself up in the loft and dig out my windowsill heated propagator base, grow lights, seed trays and covers etc so I can start seed-sowing soon. I want to take some cuttings too, Penstemons and Erysimum, and I'll probably spot something else to try once I get going. OH bought me a cold frame from Aldi yesterday so I might assemble that later, but if I run out of time that'll keep until it's warm enough for seedlings etc to go into it.

Oh my word @Dordogne Damsel … what a sad sight.

It reminds me of when my best friend returned home from taking her children to school to see flames emanating from her cottage’s thatched roof. She called 999 from a neighbour’s then dashed in and rescued the dog and hamsters … as with your neighbours’ house the whole roof was lost … what was left of the interior had bad water damage. It looked terrible.

The insurance rebuilt it but they never lived there again.

Strangely enough my friend felt relieved … ever since I’d known her she’d had nightmares about her house burning down … not that particular house, they’d moved a few times and every house they lived in they’d had a plan of how to evacuate the house which they practiced with the children. Now that it has happened she no longer has the dreams.

Gosh, grass cutting! My garden is a big puddle. It's on a slight slope and water runs down it.

@pattie, I'm not such an early riser as France is an hour ahead, 7am in the UK is 8am here. That's another reason why I prefer summer time, I can see the difference when I come back from the UK in the winter and in France in summer you can sit outside until quite late.
When I had horses they lived out, ate mostly grass and hay. I gave them horse nuts between 8 and 9am.

Enjoy your time with your sisters @Brenda.

Sounds good @Punkdoc … enjoy :Wino:

OH is working a long day today then I’ll go and pick him up, and goodness knows what time son will he back as he’s mixing sound for a band this evening … and I’ve been digging the veg patch this morning, so an easy pizza and lambs lettuce salad will do for us there’s a lamb shoulder for tomorrow.
Think I’ll get the washing in before I supervise the boat race(s)…

                                Good afternoon,

What a lovely day it is today. I’ve got my remaining washing dried outside, without having to dash out to bring it in because of rain.

Just got back from lunch out at a local GC. I was very good, though, and didn’t come home with any plants.

OH was debating whether to cut the front grass, but has decided to wait until the morning because our neighbour has spent this morning washing his car (we’re in a cul de sac), and he doesn’t want to spray the car with cut grass.

Steak and kidney pie sounds yummy @Punkdoc. We’re having seafood paella tonight, and OH will, like you, find a bottle of something nice to go with it. Tomorrow we are out for our lunch (a nice surprise), so the lamb I’d bought last month and put in the freezer, will be put to good use another time.

Enjoy the rest of the day, and don’t forget to put your clocks forward one hour tonight if you’re in the UK. :)
