Just been to visit a friend in the village. It has been trying to snow all afternoon, but now it’s coming down heavily and settling. Noticeably colder too, and our weather warning has been regraded from yellow to amber. The main road south from Exeter towards Plymouth and Cornwall has been closed this evening because of heavy snow. Not fun.
It’s only the second week in January, and I’ve had enough of this winter already.

@Liriodendron, even though the boiler isn't fixed as yet you did very well in getting someone out to find out what was wrong and I'm sure that once the sensor is obtained it should be quite a quick fix. Why is it that these things happen at the worst possible time of the year?
Hoorah! @Anna42. Glad it arrived safely and that your four legged friends are enjoying their feed.
@Obelix-Vendée, I would love to know what you think about Silent Witness when you get chance to watch it.

@Ergates, I would be happy if it snowed Christmas Eve and then disappeared overnight. That would be enough 'Winter' for me!

Afternoon all, that's very good news @Anna42, you must be so relieved.

Not so good news from @Liriodendron though about the boiler. Hope you can get it sorted soon.

Lovely pictures of Jesus College @Busy-Lizzie. OH knows it well as his brother went there.
Unfortunately his brother suffered a detached retina whilst there and spent six weeks flat on his back in a darkened room. Their mother stayed with him and was often offered sherry by the tutors in the evenings! She would have absolutely loved to have gone to uni in the 1930's but her parents wouldn't let her go. A frustrated teacher by all accounts.

We rushed into town (although it was only 2c) as snow was forecast for this afternoon. Went to M&S to return OH's Xmas presie from me and collect the next size up. Managed to get the same olive colour as well which he was pleased about. I had to ask for help when trying to navigate the self-serve Returns screen and then the Order one as I couldn't make the screen scan the barcode on my phone. Oh for the return of humans!
They had some gorgeous sparkly ex Xmas partywear on sale nearby which I would have liked to browse but we made a decision to return home asap.

          Keep safe and warm everyone.

Thank goodness your hay arrived @Anna42. When I had horses water was a worrying thing in winter in Dordogne. When it froze I had to carry warm water in buckets from the kitchen sink.

We took Liam to the big Tesco in Thetford and bought him some essentials for living in a Uni house share, like washing up liquid, loo rolls and pasta. We bought food for us too. Then we had a quiet afternoon in the sitting room.

I have been immersed in research this afternoon.
We have cancelled our Liverpool jaunt.
A trip to Ironbridge in June - booked a 'town house' after much deliberation and discounting of otherwise seemingly suitable properties with no car parking, steep steps or iffy reviews.
Then a visit to the 1921 census - so many transcription mistakes, as to be laughable. But then, I suppose all the names are Welsh, so English stabs in the dark are phonetic.
I see from the UK snowmap that quite a few of you might be getting the white stuff. Ours still hasn't gone and more is forecast tomorrow.
              @AuntyRach how are you today?
@Liriodendron hope you get it fixed pronto
Glad the ponies can eat well @Anna42
Got lamb shepherd's pie with a celeriac and cauliflower 'mash' topping in the oven.

I haven’t been outside since Saturday- which must be an all time record for me! I daren’t say but my back seems to be improving… but it’s not really ‘fit for work’ yet.

It’s a perfect evening for comfort food - yours sounds absolutely ‘lush’ @Penny_Forthem. I’m doing pork and apple sausages with roast root veg.

                Traitors later anyone?

Veggie night so butternut squash and black bean chilli with roast Savoy cabbage. Maybe a tortilla.

OH watches Traitors. I don't. Possum doesn't watch Silent Witness so it depends on whether or not she joins us after dinner.

I hope your heating gets fixed quickly @Liriodendron and that your back continues to ease up @AuntyRach. Glad your horses got their hay @Anna42.

No snow. Lots of rain and the wind is now howling. A night for snuggling indoors. Like @Ergates I'm ready for spring now.

Good evening all. @Ladybird4, today wasn't pet food, I still have enough because I made a stash for Christmas holidays. On the end, only one arrived, and it will be very useful next month. I had also a haircut, and rest of the evening will be resting. It will be skiing on tv.

Sorry that you had to cancel your trip @Penny_Forthem but I think you have done the right thing. Your meal sounds yummy. Pleased to read that your back has improved somewhat @AuntyRach but don't be rushing to do things.

I could not believe when I woke up this morning to see more snow falling. This is the day I normally meet up with my Bestie but I will not be going this morning. Part of my journey to hers involves an incredibly steep hill which becomes extremely dodgy when the weather is icy. We are due to go to our first Quizzers Friday meal tomorrow so will have to see how things turn out today.

Morning @Ladybird4 - and everyone else as they arrive.

It looks icy out - that clear, shiny ice rather than frosty white today. Yes stay indoors if you can folks.

I started some physio exercises yesterday so hoping that will help my back. I was in too much pain to even do the exercises until yesterday.

                              Have a good day all.

                                Good morning all!

The sun is up and the wind is down - still mild at around 7°C.
Sorry to hear that a lot of you are "under the weather" - UK is getting the big freeze whilst Los Angeles is burning up!!

Sowed my broad beans but also planted 12 scarole lettuces - under a fleece cover - these are a hardy winter lettuce. Not a good idea to go to a GC with just one thing in mind. Of course, I came out with more. Daff bulbs were on special, so I bought a bag and they were planted too. My freesias are up and paper whites are in flower - a miniature daff has shown it lovely trumpet already.

I wish you all safe passage if you are venturing out! Keep toasty!
