Good morning all. Bitterly cold here with a good frost everywhere. We have to venture out for the weekly shop and then it will be straight back home.
Wondered if I could ask some advice here about my amaryllis please. I have noticed good strong white roots popping up out of the soil and underneath the pot. I can also see underneath the actual pots that there are two or three roots wrapped round and round at the bottom. It has developed another four leaves over the past few days too. Should I report it for a slightly larger pot or just leave it? It hasn’t flowered yet but there is a bud visible.( doesn’t feel to be much inside the bud though). TIA.
    Keep warm all.

No need to repot your amaryllis @Songbird and don't worry about the roots showing - this is quite normal for these pre planted bulbs. Just leave it.

Hello all! I don't like your weather at the moment! I see you are going to have a very cold night tonight. I't's mild and windy here today with spits and spots of rain.
Pleased to hear your back is improving @AuntyRach, when my back has been bad it usually takes a good three days before it starts to improve, oh and the agony trying to get up off the loo!
OH is up a tree taking out the top as it's bobbing about on the electricity and phone cables!
Take good care everyone, no going skating on that ice! :nonofinger:

Very icy out here this morning. We were going to meet up with friends this morning, but decided to heed the ice warning, and stayed at home. The snow on the lawn in the shade hasn’t melted. Our journey involves some country lanes, very prone to flooding with run off from the fields. The nearby village is always a good two degrees C than the surrounding countryside, and as it is only 1C here at the moment, there are likely to be icy stretches of road.
Ive had a bowl of porridge for breakfast, with fresh berries and cream. That’ll keep me warm for a few hours! Glad your back is starting to ease up, @AuntyRach. Can’t rush it.
Hope your OH stays safe while trimming that tree, @floralies!
The blue tits have been examining the opening to the bird box. I haven’t seen them going inside, I am wondering whether they are collecting spiders. We will have to brave the outdoors soon to fill the bird feeders. At least it is sunny and cheerful out, despite the cold.

Thanks for that @Ladybird4 , I’ll leave it alone. Been shopping and there were plenty of people coughing and spluttering about. Some, I noticed, were wearing masks again and we agreed that we may start to use them again if we go anywhere crowded. It wasn’t too bad in SM this morning.

We had more heavy rain and strong winds overnight and that's led to flooding in nearby fields and the small roads that lead to the main road for our weekly SM raid. Only seen that once before and that was last winter.

The clouds are breaking up now and there are bright bits and blue bits and there should be no more wet stuff this weekend but it's still too wet to garden so OH is going to help me empty the big bookcase in my sewing room and move furniture ready for painting the walls. Then we'll start sorting out the garage and garden shed. He's getting stir crazy as the golf courses are flooded and bogged.

Quite a few people wearing masks today. We've had our Covid and flu jabs and are fine so far but I'd like not to have any colds either as they always go for my sinuses. There's a flu epidemic here too which I find odd given the availability of vaccines to keep people safe.

Stay safe everyone in these wet and frosty conditions. Best wishes to the injured, poorly and bereaved. Gently does it @AuntyRach

Try adding some liquid feed when watering your amaryllis @Songbird - tomato or rose would work well, assuming you plan to keep the bulb for next year.

A friend of mine complained to Farmer G about her amaryllis, but they told her to be patient.
                  I think Tabasco is starting to grow, but the Papilio seems 'blind';

No more snow for us, but, never fear, we still have got quite a lot and it's perishingly cold. I dread to think what our heating bill will be.
We were going to go to the van to collect all the bedding to wash, but I've seen pics of the snow up there, so no thanks!!

Thanks @Obelix-Vendée , will venture to the greenhouse when it’s a bit warmer, to get the tomato feed. @Penny_Forthem , oh dear, seems your bulbs are teasing you. Something might yet appear. Try grumbling at them and threaten to hoy them if they don’t behave. You never know :)

Afternoon everybody, I'm hours behind you all as usual, mainly because we had the excitement of an unexpected 2 hour power cut at 10 pm last night. Apparently it was just our postcode area as we could see streetlights still on further down the road. Fortunately we keep a big lantern torch in the hall cupboard and smaller LED torches beside the bed. Abandoned the dirty dishes still in the sink and just took ourselves off for an early night. However I just couldn't get to sleep and just dozed on and off most of the night. My right shoulder is really playing up now I'm not taking steroids any more so can't sleep on that side.

Finally got up about midday and haven't done much since! Brilliant sunshine although remaining very cold.

The snow must have been bad if they've shut the A38 @Ergates as that doesn't happen very often.

Still no signs of a bud in mine @Penny_Forthem and @Songbird. Don't know whether I gave the name of my amaryllis when I posted the pic. but it is called Ambiance.
I had an annoying afternoon as at 13:25 my power went off. I do have the emergency number for Electricity North West so I called them. Nice man took all the details and after that I got regular texts informing me as to what was going on. It was a fault in the local substation and the power was restored 2 hours later. I was dreading another 12 hour cut off especially with the low temperatures forecast for tonight.
I think you made a sensible decision regarding the trip to the van for the bedding @Penny_Forthem. Next door neighbour was telling me there had been an accident at the bottom of the hill near me - not serious just that several cars had just slid into each other. One lady - colleague of neighbour - was involved she couldn't get out of her car because the doors had frozen shut.

Lucky at my house, have a whole house generator. Electric goes out, in one minute whole house is up and running.

Anyway, watching the news, horrid California fires. over 8,400 homes destroyed 30Thousand acres. 5 deaths so far. Malibu gone. Fires still raging. winds moving fires. they have no water. many communities gone. streets incinerated. cars melted. pictures are horrible.

                              Hello all.

We've seen that on the BBC News @redstar, terrifying and tragic.

We've been lucky so far in Norfolk, another sunny day, very cold, but dry and no snow.

We took grandson to our favourite pub restaurant in Suffolk for lunch. It was delicious as always. Liam enjoyed it, at one stage he wanted to be a chef. Now he's studying politics at Uni.
