Good afternoon all. I had a lovely meal with my friends today. My option was the seafood risotto which consisted of haddock, salmon and prawns with braised arborio rice, finished with parmesan, spring onions and herbs with a dill oil and for dessert I had a chocolate and orange dome - Belgian chocolate dome filled with marshmallow, balanced on an orange jelly and vanilla sponge with a sticky orange glaze, white chocolate crumbs and chocolate orange ice cream. It was exquisite! Needless to say I will not need to eat anything else today.
@Penny_Forthem your meal sounds absolutely delicious too. Two of the quizzers who are golfers were bemoaning the fact that the weather has put their golfing on hold for now - a bit like your OH the other day @Obelix-Vendée.

I must be alone in not liking runny egg yolks! Poached, fried or boiled, they have to be solid for me!
Hope your back is now improving, @AuntyRach. Do you have the weekend off to further your recovery?
I’ve just been writing a condolence card to the daughter of a very old friend (since 1971). We didn’t get our usual Christmas card this year, and I was wondering how she was. Just received a lovely card, informing us that she had passed away. It was so kind and thoughtful of her daughter to let us know, our Christmas card list gets shorter every year, but often we just don’t hear from our old friends, and have to just assume that they're no longer around. I’m considering making a list of those I’d like informed when I’m gone, some of whom I haven’t seen or spoken to for years, but have kept in touch with via annual cards and notes.
The house is warm, but despite extra jumpers, I’m feeling rather chilled. I think it’ll be an early night, with something to read. I’ve given up on the tv, nothing we both want to watch. Our last joint effort ended up with us watching 30 minutes of three films before giving up in disgust. It seems that the multimillion budget for films does not include more than a few dollars for the script!

There is a new Monty Don series starting on TV tonight - British Gardens. I think I'll take a look at that. I will say good night to you all now and see you tomorrow.

Good morning everyone. Gosh but it must have been seriously freezing cold last night judging by the looks of mine and neighbours' cars. I'll be surprised if anyone goes far today. Its the first coffee/tea morning of the year tomorrow - I've already made a tea loaf - so I intend baking another cake today. Definitely a day for staying in and keeping warm. Look after yourselves today.

              Good morning all!!

We've had a shower during the night and it is very mild - no sun. Just the day for my boeuf bourguignon.

I'm not a big egg eater but poached, fried or boiled, the yolks must be runny to dip marmite soldiers in!! I like hard boiled eggs to - in a potato salad or with tuna and mayo.

Have a pleasant Saturday everyone, in spite of the cold weather.

Good morning @Tui34. I must admit I am a bit jealous of your mild weather - not the shower though! Boeuf bourgignon sounds yummy!

Good morning. It's fairly mild here but dark with another blanket of low grey cloud. Set to freeze for the next few nights tho. It is so dull and dark I haven't been able to clean the hen house yet so will have to go down later.

No baking for me @Ladybird4. It's Odile's birthday on Monday so she'll be bringing a cake to patch club. Given the story of Swan Lake I don't understand why I've met 3 Odiles here but never an Odette.

Nothing exciting here, other than prepping my sewing room for painting and reorganising furniture while OH is out to play and can't mutter and moan till it's too late.

Have a safe, warm and happy day, whatever you're doing today.

All the talk of eggs has brought back a childhood memory for me. I could not abide tomato ketchup mixed in the runny yolk of an egg. Really disliked the resultant colour. Still can't stand that 'mix' now.

Good morning all. Sunny but very cold. I have few indoor jobs to do, and must renew contract with telephone company. That should be fun, especially with new prices. I have inside information that it's also very cold in UK. Keep warm, and hope you will get rid of coldness and snow in next twenty days.

How is your back today @AuntyRach? I remember having a bad back some time ago - horrid! I do recall having to sit on the car seat sideways on before swinging my legs round into the foot well.

                          Good morning all.

@Ladybird4 your lunch yesterday sounds yummy. We watched Monty's British Gardens yesterday afternoon on iPlayer before the series actually started! Looking forward to more. We went to that Scottish castle a few years ago when we stayed with my brother when he lived in Crieff. It was looking a bit tired and quite weedy.

I don't like eggs, especially the whites. I don't mind them mixed up and disguised like in quiches and cakes.

Today we are taking my grandson and all his luggage to Greenwich University and he can have the keys to his house share on the campus. I hate driving so close to London.

The car is covered in frost.

Take care whilst driving @Busy-Lizzie. I thoroughly enjoyed Monty's programme - such stunning scenery too. Chillingham and Alnwick are in the area of my early years so are known to me. Does your dislike of egg white mean you do not like meringues or are they another acceptable alternative?

Morning all. Another night of a severe frost has left all our fields covered with 'white' instead of the usual green colour. For the past week we have had the water supply to the far fields shut off to protect against possible freezing/bursts. This means that daughter not only has to do her daily trip with quad and trailer full of their hay supplies, but has to do a return journey with two large water containers filled from our barn supply to keep the field tanks full up. Hay is good for keeping the ponies feeling warm in this weather but it also makes them thirsty. (and Yes @Busy-Lizzie when we moved here many years ago and had the ponies stabled in a barn close to the house, water was carried by the bucket full from the house.)

Love reading about your food 'menus' and food ideas in general, I'm afraid that daughter and I are very plain/fresh cooked food orientated, roast dinners, soup stockpot on the boil over several days etc. Last night we had homemade fish cakes plus a mound of mixed veg - brocc, cauli, carrots, cabbage covered with a mild hollandaise sauce, very tasty and easy on my dodgy digestion.

Well enjoy the weekend whatever you have planned, but do stay warm and safe my friends.

ps. getting a little concerned that we have not heard from @PatE lately, she is a year older than me so I hope she is ok.

@Ladybird4 tomato sauce and eggs should never meet up unless making home-made Mary Rose sauce! I like eggs poached, soft-boiled, in omelettes, quiches, frittatas, soufflés, pavlovas, proper custard and mayo. I also cook from fresh every day except at Chinese NY when I do buy dim sum and Chinese dumplings but not spring rolls.

Have recorded Monty and will watch it in a quiet moment.
