Frustration with the weather here! The snow has reached the ugly stage - brown and patchy.
    Good to 'see' you @Liriodendron
Did anyone make contact with @PatE?
I'm clearing out the spice cupboard (I'm ashamed of it). I'm keeping a list of what's thrown out, so I can replace asap.
Once Tesco has been, I can sort out things for a tip trip. The excitement is underwhelming!

@Penny_Forthem I left a message for @PatE on Jigsaw Planet but she hasn't answered. Probably hasn't seen it.

Thank you for your kind words @Liriodendron.
@Obelix-Vendée that makes sense with your chooks. Well just guess who has the smug face on here! Despite the attempted assistance of Cricket, the washed curtains are now re-hung thanks to my secret stash of sliders and hooks. These curtains specified they had to be dry cleaned when I first got them but I have always washed them without any disasters. More curtains will be taken down as and when for the same treatment. Tell you what, even though I was only using a small stepladder I did not feel all that steady as there is not much to really get hold of once on the top step. I found I was leaning on the wall quite a bit for stability.
@Allotment Boy, I was interested reading your post re P.O.A. I got mine done when my Mum passed away, as well as getting my will done.
Had another dratted power cut this afternoon. Luckily it did not last very long but that is 3 cuts in about 6 weeks and it is most disconcerting. Listen me moaning on, I just have to hear the news about the poor people in Los Angeles and I am embarrassed at my trivia. Sorry, rant over.

@Ladybird4 , please be careful on stepladders! I have recently had to admit that it’s no longer wise for me to climb having managed to fall backwards twice in the last couple of years:yikes:. My mother was a climber too. Every day she “had to” climb onto her conservatory settee in order to reach the cord to close the blinds. I regularly warned her what she was risking but she knew best! Her last day in her own home ended when she fell off said settee, broke ribs etc and had to move into a care home. She was in her mid-nineties by that time.

Hi everyone, much milder today but the ground is still frozen solid as I found out when I tried to put a fork under a parsnip or two on the plots.

@lizzie27 OK sorry but so many people don't clean and sharpen regularly I thought it might be that. Yes the blades are easy to change, if you can't find the "key" that would have come with them then you need a 12mm flat spanner and a flat blade screwdriver. If I remember correctly there is something on Felcos own website. Undo the little triangular piece that locks the main nut, then Undo the nut and the blade should just lift off. Good garden centres will sell spare blades. Some GC's will send them away for service, repair but you are almost going to pay the same for new ones. If you want similar at a better price the Darlac ones look much the same. I have some of their snips and they are pretty good.
Do let us know what you decide.

Agreed about Darlac secateurs, @Allotment Boy . They make a small pair ideal for anyone with a small hand span, which don't open as wide as the Felco equivalent so you don't drop them so easily. When I was working as a gardener I found them invaluable, because I could operate the safety catch with the thumb of my right hand, leaving my left hand free to hold the vegetation I wanted to prune.

                    Good evening folks.

I was hoping to see the Full Moon tonight, as it always brings a smile, but I think it will be too cloudy. Decided to do a chicken dinner tonight and there will be enough left to take one to Dad tomorrow. Extra parsnips done, as they are his favourite (and mine).

I hope everyone is doing ok and jobs are crossing themselves off the list. I still have jobs that I’m
resisting due to being careful with my back, but they can wait or be delegated.

Have a pleasant evening all. Silent Witness anyone?

The Blackwall I was referring too @Busy-Lizzie was indeed the earlier one, used by us in the mid to late 1940's to the early 50's. I can quite understand the horses making a bid for freedom when seeing a glimmer of light ahead as I had that sort of feeling myself as a youngster on the one or two occasions we experienced a 'hold up'. :yikes:

Good morning everyone. Definitely milder today which is a bit of a relief after the severe cold. Its a little bit misty. Will be able to get out into the garden to see what's been going on underneath all that snow. Blood test this p.m. and last night I did find the important form!

Good morning all and to you earlybird @Ladybird4 !! I like the wee sparrow having a bath!

Not milder here but colder -4°C with a good frost on the rooves as the sun came up. I'm not moving for a bit - will have another cup of tea. We can see the full moon well at the moment as the sky is clear. Apparently, on the 21st January, there is a line up of planets which will be visible to the naked eye just after sunset.

Good morning @Tui34. It sounds as though you are now experiencing the weather we had a week or so ago. The good thing is that we all know this will pass. How is Fizz enjoying the cold?
