@Penny_Forthem, once you renew passport, trip will come soon. Hope the new storm will not be too bad for all of you. I'll have my tea, read a bit and go to bed. Goodnight all, and see you tomorrow.

Good evening everyone. Had a lovely breakfast and catch up with my sis this morning. We had a really good mooch after we had eaten and these caught my eye and leapt at me:
      Cyclamen.jpg
I do have lots of cyclamen in my garden but up until today had none with the complete silver leaf so they just had to come home with me. Sis picked up a large pot with a hosta (invisible) in it because the reductions were phenomenal. We bought some jigsaw puzzles and I got a little gonk for my nextdoor neighbour's little girl who is 5 on Friday.
I meant to say yesterday that I was glad to read that you made it to Bodnant @Butterfly6 . Pleased you got through to the Doctor @lizzie27 Great news about the Vet. visit @Penny_Forthem.
I've just let Cricket know that his favourite programme is on - Winter Watch. He was transfixed and riveted to it last night.
Your grasses sound very nice @lizzie27 and you got a bargain there too.

Do remind Cricket that I'm happy to do his pawtrait @Ladybird4
I think the beeb has forgotten the Beaufort scale. We have 'strong winds' for Friday, equating to strong gale force. Mustn't worry the licence payers.

A very good morning everyone. Just as I was signing out last night - about 20:30 - I was subjected to another power cut - the third in the last three months! I contacted Electricity North West by their emergency number and let them know. I could see that the lights in the house opposite me were on as were the street lights so it was very strange. I went outside, still chatting with the lady on the phone to check on my attached neighbours. They were out and their house was in darkness too. The electricity company are still working in the lane and within 10 minutes one of the workers arrived to tell me that they had gone through the cables, hadn't realised that just our two houses would be affected and a repair could take up to midnight. I did what I had done in November - went to bed and read my Kindle. The power woke me up by coming on at 00:20 this morning so I have just had to go around and sort out my various time switches as lights were coming on at random times. I am pleased its sorted but getting a tad fed up now.
Moan over. Going to have my hair done at Bestie's today.
@Penny_Forthem, Cricket is primping his whiskers ready for posing!

              Good morning everyone!!

The sun has riz! Yes, we are going to have a sunny day today and after the rain, I shall do some digging over ready to receive some horse manure next week!

Parsimonious shop it was, @Ladybird4 but I did buy a lovely piece of fresh tuna which was on special! So expensive - in fact everything is at a ridiculous price - but we are all hostages!!

Skates on again - I tend to faff around on the computer over yet another cup of tea!!

              Seize the day!!

                Morning everyone.

Just pottering before heading into work - it’s a ‘double-back’ as we say, when you finish the one evening and are back in early the next morning. Luckily I’m only doing ‘half’ days (7.5 hours), not 12 hours as many do. Some do three 12 hour days in a row! I couldn’t. I used to do six night shifts in a row when I was in one job in London, but we had a week off after that. That’s only for twenty-somethings!

                Have a good day all.

Very dark and ominously still this morning, though I can just see the pear tree branches beginning to swish a bit.
I do hate the wind, but i also think the weather warnings, while very useful, tend to make me worry more.
                  Annoying about your electricity, @Ladybird4
mmm fresh tuna @Tui34. How lovely!
Glad we went out yesterday - it's now piddling down.
                  Stay safe everyone.

Piddling here too so an indoor day. Frustratingly tomorrows forecast is bright sunshine but gale force winds so not good for a walk either, but grateful we have t got a weather warning for rain.

Agree re the weather warnings @Penny_Forthem

It’s turned drizzly now after a reasonably bright start that became increasingly cloudier. Chilly, too. It’s put paid to our plan to go for a run out somewhere as walking about in cold drizzle isn’t my idea of fun.

Been out and moved one of the bins to the back of the house before the gales arrive otherwise it will just roll down the path and blow over. (The other bins are housed in a store, but there isn’t room for this one). We’ve also anchored a couple of plants in pots down that have a tendency to blow over if left. I’m hoping we’ve not forgotten anything. I think everything else is as secure as it can be.

Glad your power has been restored @Ldybird and :fingers crossed: that it doesn’t go again during the forecast storm. We’ve got torches at the ready just in case.

This morning I pruned the 2 climbing roses on the house and cut down more honeysuckle, then it started to rain.

We had planned on walking to the village pub for lunch but as it was raining we took the car. Lunch was nice, less pubby and more home cooking than I expected. OH had turkey curry and I had cottage pie, with a pint of cider each. We chatted to two elderly men who were interesting. One was an artist, still paints and still has some paintings in galleries. I looked him up, lovely paintings, mostly of boats.

                          Afternoon all,

do hope everybody in NI, Scotland and Wales stays safe over the next 24 hours. Thankfully my sister and her friend should be well on their way home from the Dumfries area by now. We've already had some very heavy rain showers interposed with short sunny spells but the strength of the gusts is increasing and we're nowhere near the warning area. Had a quick walk earlier then sat in the bus shelter at the roundabout waiting for OH to come back from the shops. Had a lot of fun watching the traffic chaos - temporary traffic lights in the wrong place meant the oncoming vehicles couldn't get through a narrow gap between parked cars. The bus and vans had no chance! Why don't drivers use their common sense and leave gaps where needed.

Managed to get out in a sunny spell and wield my new secateurs on another six of my roses but then got rained off. Thanks to everybody for your secateur advice. Bought the small size essential Felco's in the end. I also removed my small pots of violas off the kitchen windowsill and think most of my pots will be okay if we do get stronger winds here.

We went out for lunch - a spontaneous decision. Rather a plebian small fish and chips, but it hit the spot. They have recently lost their chef, so there was a disappointingly limited menu.
We have a dearth of decent, lunchtime, 'adventurous' eateries, but those who are open, tend to be good.
                            I'm suffering 'weather updates' overload.
                            Roll on, Spring.

Evening all. It was grey and wet day, warm but unpleasant. Nothing special to report, everyday routine here. We decided to work this Saturday and get rid of that as soon as possible. I'll have a mug of warm milk and read a bit. Hope the new storm will not cause much problem for all you affected.

Good evening everyone. Hair sorted, electricity still on, as some have already mentioned, the day has been drismal here. I'm glad my recycle bin got emptied today - one less thing to be worried about blowing over and scattering its contents. The breeze was building up but it is still quite quiet outside.
Goodness @AuntyRach those are crippling hours aren't they. Respect to you. Fresh tuna and swordfish used to be my favourite fish when I used to go and stay in Malta with Mum and Dad during my summer holidays @Tui34. @Busy-Lizzie, it sounds as though you had a very interesting day today. What is the name of the artist?
I think it is a good idea to get that 'payback' day over and done with on Saturday @Ante1, then you won't have it waiting for you on your return from your trip.
