Good morning all. Hope the storm is over and that you didn't have any major problems. I know it's Saturday, but it's working one for me. We had a sunny afternoon yesterday, but now is again grey and it's raining. Wish you all a lovely day, and see you later.

Good morning @Ante1 and all calling in later. It was lovely when the wind died down yesterday and, as I said, I did take the opportunity to get my washing done. Be careful that you don't mistake today for Monday!

      p.s. except for @Ante1!

          Hi,
I'll admit that I can't remember the name of the sealant - we had to dispose of it before we moved. I regret that, as I could now use it elsewhere!!
The heaters are a different matter.
We have several around the place, of various makes.
The latest ones were from a company called Hyco. They are Sahara tubular heaters, one foot long, reference TH01B.
Any cold corner could do with one. We had one inside a built-in wardrobe, when mould appeared on the north-west outside corner of the bedroom. Another was in a cold corner facing north, behind a small bookcase.
The make we have are not the only ones, and you might find something else/better.
The heaters are cheap to run, and probably won't be needed all year. You can only see what works for you.

We have a dehumidifier, which we use when it’s too warm to have the heating on, as we do get some condensation (surrounded by trees, it can get rather damp out). It also has a mild heating effect, so you might not need an additional heating bar. It is a wake up call to see how much water collects in the reservoir!
We were forecast icy roads this morning, but the sun is out, and the lanes through the village by the river were wet but quite safe. There was a really heavy downpour last night, loud enough to be heard over the television! We are treating ourselves to breakfast out, and a walk, after all the hard work painting during the week. I’ve caught up with the laundry, and the kitchen was relatively tidy, so I think I deserve a break!

              Morning all.

We've just been to the village monthly farmers' market in the village hall. We had breakfast there. I bought some fruit and veg, apples and apple juice, a pheasant, Bakewell tart and cheese straws for Cedric. The apple juice is really good, comes in different flavours, I like Cox and Winter Wonder best.

There is some blue sky and sunshine here.

@Ladybird4 you mentioned Liriodendron who lives in Ireland. They have a power cut so not that pleasant for them at the moment.

Thanks for updating everyone, @Busy-Lizzie . Yes, our power went off around midnight on Thursday and hasn't yet come back - no internet, very iffy phone signal too. The house was undamaged, though, with just some twiggy bits littering the garden, so we were lucky! We've escaped today to our daughter near Galway - their power was restored yesterday, so we've been able to charge our phones and torches and use their internet, in a warm house. And they are giving us a roast dinner... a lovely change from the one pot meals, created on a camping stove, which we've been having since the power went off. A kind neighbour has given us a bucket of coal, so we've been able to keep the lounge warm.

There were 700,000 households without power in Ireland following the storm, so it's not surprising it's taking a while to restore the supply. We don't have any timetable for when it might happen yet.

                    Afternoon all.

We’ve been busy doing a massive ‘prune’ on a Laurel tree. Now that’s done, we can actually reach the other side of a Cedar and Conifer which need some attention. Probably saved £££s doing this ourselves, although loads of branches to deal with now but will be cut into different sizes and some can stay on the rough compost heap, some to the wood pile and the rest to the tip. I’m quite ladder averse- even if it’s not actually me up the ladder! Was cold today, but lovely to be outside.

I hope your power is returned soon @Liriodendron - how lovely to be able to go to your daughter’s to warm up and enjoy a good meal.

                    Have a lovely evening everyone.

We've had a being busy day.
He went to his first men's 'bushcraft and brew event this morning. He was very apprehensive, but came back saying he's really enjoyed it, which made me very happy. He's signed up for the next one.
I did the garden bird watch in peace!
Then we did the tip, Tool station, checked on the van (all OK there) and did more greenhouse repairs. If we don't get another Eowyn, it might last another season.
Heartening to see spring bulbs popping up and the first of my Iris in flower.
Now got chicken with apricots and brandy bubbling away in the slow cooker. I am very hungry.
Good to hear you're OK, @Liriodendron

Good afternoon all. Thanks for the 'heads up' @Busy-Lizzie and I was so pleased to see @Liriodendron's post too. I can completely empathise with you @Liriodendron but my power cuts were nothing compared to yours and the other unfortunate folk in ireland. I hope that the prediction for tomorrow is correct.
@Busy-Lizzie you sound to have had a really enjoyable day. @AuntyRach, well done on all of your hard work today and I totally agree about the ladder situation after my wobble when re-hanging my curtains.
I intend doing my bird watch tomorrow because I forgot when hanging out all Cricket's blankets that the feeder would be obscured! I'm a twonk!

Hello all, we had a hard frost this morning, a bit to our surprise. I was awake at 4 am and got up at gone 5, couldn't sleep so made a cuppa and had a tiny bowl of cereal. Thought I might as well stay awake so had anor cuppa later. It then turned sunny all day which was a bonus.
DIL is making us dinner and it smells yummy, I'm really hungry! The other good news is that the steroid pills have kicked in and I feel much better today, not so stiff and hardly any pain.
                              Long may it continue.

Such a relief that you are basically ok @Liriodendron, apart from the power cut. Enjoy the warmth of your daughter's house.

                              Have a good weekend all.

                                Good evening,

Our fundraising at church raised £353 today, to be shared between 2 local food banks. Very pleased with that as we were the usual small crowd there. People are so generous.

Well, I looked out for our feathered friends again today and didn’t see one (apart from two crows flying over, but not coming into the garden). Normally there are the usual dunnocks, house sparrows, robin, starlings and blackbirds flitting about, but today and yesterday not a one to be seen. I’ll look again tomorrow but if it’s the same, then my recording will be the one magpie that settled on the roof yesterday. I’m convinced they know when it’s BGBW weekend and deliberately hide :biggrin:.
