A very good morning one and all. The refuse collectors have just arrived and I hope that my bin lid actually opens when it is upended. Last night I had to give it a mighty smack in the middle of the lid to break the frost and let it open so I could put some recycled items in. I wanted to get out this morning and repeat that before they arrived but I am too late!
Come on @Ante1 - you cannot keep us in suspense like that! You know we will find out in the end what your gift to yourself is! The sky first thing was incredible @Ergates. Clear and lots of twinkling stars but now cloud has built up and the sky is obscured. I wonder if I'll get snow or rain later. Keep warm everyone. Safe journey @Busy-Lizzie.

 

Good morning all. Be patient dear @Ladybird4, only thirty more days and you will find out. Not too cold here but horrendous weather. Since last night high wind and torrential rain. It will be definitely indoor day.

 

You will be pleased that you got some of your lights in yesterday @Ante1. I have made a date in my diary!

 

Good morning everyone, cold frosty start here as well.
Our new combi oven came yesterday, it's the same make but not quite the same spec as the old one. It fits in the space (just it should really have more space on the left ) so at least we don't have to rearrange the whole kitchen.

We are under a snow warning for the weekend, but the BBC insists we are only getting rain. However, as I don't believe them entirely, I must get my prescription and some fresh veg. Then it can snow, if it wants
We had a good 'haul' at the Thai SM yesterday. I am so used to tootling round this little quiet corner of North Wales, that I was amazed at the amount of traffic on the Wirral - and my friend informed it was 'quite light'!
@Ergates what a good idea about the box frame. I have also got a piece of the Berlin wall (supposedly) from when I was there in 1992.
Before I can turn my attention to anything in the greenhouse, we need to replace the panel damaged in the last storm.

Hello all, just back from doing some shopping, we were running rather low on some essentials. Rainy and milder today for a change.
Pleased to see you don't have to re-arrange your kitchen @Allotment Boy!
We are waiting for our garage to open next week so that we can get the mirrors sorted on the car, neither move and one is taped round because the mirror fell out!

 

Hello all.

Sunshine and blue sky at the ferry port. Lucky we are early as the ferry is fully booked so will take longer to load, they sent me a message. We drove through some fog and some frosty areas, but a good journey on the whole.

 

Greetings all. Been out doing the weekly shop today and it is cold. Not frosty but the northerly wind chill makes it fell freezing. Pottering indoors for me this pm then and a big clean again tomorrow as we have friends coming for lunch on Sunday, after which the decs will all come down.

Glad you got your new oven OK @Allotment Boy and hope you get your mirrors sorted @floralies. Safe crossing @Busy-Lizzie and a quiet drive up to Norfolk.

I was supposed to be getting a smart jumper for Xmas @Ladybird4 but we didn't find a suitable one anywhere. It might just become a heated propagator in the sales. Or, like @Ante1, I shall treat myself in the sales when they start.

Woke to icy roofs and frosty grass. Not as cold as further north, we are just outside the yellow warning. A day at home today, more tidying up and catching up on laundry. I’ve got behind with the washing up that can’t go in the dishwasher. How did I manage to have a backlog of at least 16 wineglasses? Especially as there were only three drinkers here over the weekend?

 

Good afternoon,
The sunshine got out after all today after a grey start. I thought we might get rain/snow, but thankfully not.
Popped out to a GC for coffee and a mooch round. Most of the Christmas things had been cleared away and what was left didn’t look very appealing. I did buy a white Christmas rose (hellebore) to go in the garden, so that’s a job for tomorrow. I also bought a shallow ish pot for some bulbs that must be planted tomorrow or it will be too late for them to grow. It’s a bit late now, really, but nothing to lose by trying. (A few tulip bulbs). I’ll put mesh over the top to keep the pests off them.
It’s turned very chilly. I needed to put the heating on boost when we got back.

 

I am going to say good night now. Hope @Busy-Lizzie has had an uneventful journey and that it doesn't take too long to get the house warmed up. Catch up with you all tomorrow. Enjoy your Friday nights - I kept thinking it was Saturday today!

Ferry arrives in about an hour. We will stay in a hotel tonight. Norfolk tomorrow.

Good morning everyone. The first weekend of 2025 and interesting to note that 2025 is a perfect square year - 45 x 45 - and will be the only one we ever see in our time here. I didn't work that out myself. One of my quiz team members pointed it out to me. I tried really hard to show I was amazed but he knows me too well. Any mention of numbers and I go into brain freeze! Its a bit too dark to know what is happening weatherwise outside my house but it is only 1°C. Would love to get into the garden but I'll wait until later before making any decision.
