Still suffering from my old, but green bins collected tomorrow. Once I have finished my coffee, I shall head out and see if I can prune enough stuff to fill the second bin. There is heavy rain forecast for late morning, so I’d better get on with it. Slept fairly well considering. I had the bright idea of putting a towel over my pillow, saved worrying about have to breath through my mouth and dribbling! I know, TMI!
Excellent that you have found an NHS dentist, @Allotment Boy. Very few around. We are very fortunate that when our previous NHS chap retired a couple of years ago, a young Polish girl took over. She is very competent, and even does her own scale and polishes! It makes me really furious when supposedly NHS patients are told that they have to pay a separate private fee to see a hygienist, when that is included in the NHS Band 1. However, I don’t know how a solely NHS dentist manages to cover their costs anyway. I have every sympathy for those who felt that had to give up the NHS. At least you shouldn’t get pestered to have teeth whitening and straightening!
Glad to see you back, @Tui34. The new garden sounds like a blank slate for you to work your magic on!
Hope your husband is feeling a bit better this morning, @Penny_Forthem. And that @floralies is getting some helpful advice / treatment for the dizziness.
10am, I’d better throw on my gardening clothes and get out before the band of rain gets here.

Good morning. OH snored a lot last night and then was up early to go and play golf so I had a lie in to catch up on sleep. Not sure why he's gone early as there is still frost about and I wouldn't let anyone on the fairways and greens, but then I'm not the greenkeeper.

It is sunny and cloudless and very cold with frost still lying in the shade so I'm planning to put the last of the pictures/embroideries back on the sewing room wall and cover the boxes that hold all my patterns. After that, picture framing for the living room.

I hope you all have a good day, whetever you're doing and that all snuffles, colds, flu and other lurgies desist. Hope the new dentist is good @Allotment Boy. Good to see you back @Tui34 and good luck with getting settled in to both house and garden. Hope OH is better today @Penny_Forthem

Glad you've found an NHS dentist @Allotment Boy.

My late first OH was a dentist, trained at Guy's @Ergates . He was very anti dentistry going private, wrote to Mrs Thatcher about it. My younger son is also a dentist, in France. The dentist does the hygiene in the practices I know of in France. He does it in his practice. He is also an implant specialist, did a course in Paris.

You are very lucky to find an NHS Dentist @Allotment Boy. My Dentist, of over 30 years, decided to retire after Covid. I was upset but understood his reasoning. It then took me an age to find a Dentist who would take me on but I did eventually - as a private patient. You are right about the Dental Hygienist too. Very expensive. @Ergates the rain has started here already.
I have managed to get an appointment with the Doctor for this afternoon. This cough I have is very wearing.
          For @Tui34

Lot to read back on - good job I have a coffee to hand!
Pleased to report that hub seems better and has gone for his monthly clinic checkup. Thank you all for your concern. It is so unlike him to put the kids off, that I was quite worried.
I'm off to art, but there's nothing on my easel.
Hope you're happy in your new home @Tui34 and that Fizz isn't too discombobulated!
Hope the doc can sort you out @Ladybird4

              Good afternoon everyone,
Dry and cool here. It was brighter earlier but is beginning to cloud over now. No rain is forecast for today though.
I’m a teeny bit envious of those of you who have your green bins emptied during winter - ours stop in November and resume in March.
Glad to hear you OH is improving @Penny_Forthem.
Nice to see you able to post again @Tui34 and I hope you soon get settled into your new place.

Back inside after two hours in the garden. Chopped and pulled out another load of gaultheria, shredded it and finished filling the second green bin just as the rain started. Now finishing a cup of coffee, and considering what to do for lunch.
OH has been applying silicon round the shower, a job he really hates. Bit fiddly and very technique sensitive. He seems in reasonably good spirits, so it presumably went well!
Very glad your OH is feeling a bit better, @Penny_Forthem. Quite a worry when they go off their feed. I tend not to get too concerned when my OH is moaning about ailments, especially if he then refuses offers of painkillers or cough medicine, but it is so rare for him to refuse a meal, that I would get quite alarmed at that.
The rain hasn’t really developed much. The patio slabs are wet, and it’s quite grey but no real downpour. I’m not going out again though. I’ll just bask in the glow of having another two weeks to fill the green bins! The collections do stop for six weeks over Christmas, ( which is only three collections) and it’s a bit of a relief as we are busy with other things. It’s a good incentive to keep up with gardening through the winter though. Before we had the collections, and would take our waste to the tip, we’ve had years when we didn’t do any gardening until May!

Good afternoon, the Dentist trip was fine nothing to do. I actually saw the one who sees my wife even though officially his NHS list is closed. I did give in and see their hygienist as she was available without a long wait, but next time will make do with the NHS scale and Polish. She was very thorough but my gums feel like the have been shot blasted as she used what she called an air polisher which was actually water and an Abrasive powder, blasted at my teeth. Still cheaper than the other Dentist.
@Ergates , my wife is the same as you, she always says if I am off my food she knows I'm really not well. I'm one of those annoying people, I can eat what I like but never really put weight on, so nothing to show for all her good cooking.

                    Good afternoon everyone!

Welcome to your new home, @Tui34 !

A new seed feeder arrived in the post this morning, a direct replacement from one which is entirely held together with waterproof sellotape... it has cracks all over it, presumably from the metal feeding holes expanding and contracting with changes in temperature. I've installed and filled it, and washed & replaced the "squirrel proof" cage over it. We are no longer plagued with squirrels since moving to Ireland, but the cage excludes the jackdaws, which empty the peanut feeder in a day.

We'd always had an NHS dentist until we moved here, and it was a bit of a shock to have to go private. The local dentist seems very good, though, and does her own scaling & polishing. We were strongly recommended to take out private health insurance, and have been glad that we did so, since a couple of hospital stays have been entirely covered by insurance, and they pay half of our "everyday" costs like dentist, physiotherapist etc. It does seem very unfair, though, that because we have the money for insurance we would get faster treatment if we needed a hip replacement, for instance.

Now I'm going to do some research into public transport in Finland. We'll be going as usual to the biennial choral festival in Tampere (known as the Manchester of Finland... bit prettier though, with a huge lake next to it!), and extending our stay to visit some old haunts in the Eastern part of the country, which is very beautiful. It's our (slightly premature) Golden Wedding celebration. But OH will be 79 by then, and it may not be possible to hire a car because of his age, hence researching train & bus options.

I hope you get some help for your cough, @Ladybird4 . We had the so called "hundred day cough" in late autumn so I know how wearing it can be.

Hub has been booked in for an ECG later this week.
A few of my friends said they weren't going to art, so (as I had nothing to do) I decided not to go either. I dragged him out to the Ruthin Decor store to buy paint for the downstairs loo and the kitchen (which is mainly tiled).
May as well do indoor jobs while the weather is 'orrible!
You have reminded me to pay for the brown bin!
                      Done. £35 quid well spent.

Good evening all. Well the Doc was lovely and he listened to my tale of woe then he listened to my chest. I was very aware of the rumblings in my tummy as I was rather peckish by this time. Chest was clear but he recommended I have a chest x-ray and he prescribed some tablets and a nasal spray. We'll see if they help. Good to read that all went well at the Dentist's @Allotment Boy - even if it felt like you were sand blasted. When will you be going to Finland @Liriodendron - I guess I could look up when the Choral Festival is on but seems easier to ask you :)
Hope all goes well with your OH's ECG @Penny_Forthem. Will he go to Wrexham Maelor for that? We don't pay for our green bins here - its probably just built into our Council Tax but we do have them emptied all year round.

Husband has been going every 2 years since 1999, apart from 2021 (Covid), and I joined him when I retired. There used to be choirs and vocal groups from all round the world taking part, but travel costs and political problems have kept many of them at home, including the many who came from Russia, of course... but there's still plenty of great music to listen to. Finland has a great choral tradition, from schoolchildren to adults.

Hello there everyone. Today I am going to the funeral of the OH of one of the coffee/tea morning ladies so it will be a rather sad, sombre morning. I do not need to explain this to anyone here I suspect, as we have all been in that situation at some time in our lives.
@Liriodendron, thank you so much for all the information about the Choral Festival. It sounds joyful - all those communities with their shared love of music coming together.
