We pet owners have been there (too many times) @Goldenlily26 so we can all understand your pain and are sending you kindest wishes. Its a year since I lost my darling little cat, Lily, and I still have my moments.
I have decided to wait for 12th night to take down the tiny number of decs I put up this year so that I don't incur any bad luck! Not sure where the bad luck comes from but I'm playing safe.
@Allotment Boy I love fresh ginger and using a recipe from my Dad I add it to curries to raise the 'heat' factor.
Signing out now. Hope you all have pleasant evenings and that @Busy-Lizzie has got her log burner cranked up in Norfolk. Catch up with you all tomorrow. Good night all.

Have just realised that all my watched thread are unwatched now , with the new 2025 threads. Something else I’ve learned…Wondered why I could never find them in the alerts.:noidea: Slowly making my way through them again.

An update on the Amaryllis I bought….doing well I think.

How is yours doing @Ladybird4 ? And was it @Penny_Forthem who was also growing them?

Not relaxing here @Ladybird4. We have 2 of my friends coming for lunch tomorrow with their husbands whom I have met once and OH not at all. I went to fish out my big white tablecloth and it's gone AWOL! Mystery. Plan B then.

It's been very wet all day and this evening has been windy too but it seems to be calming.

Fingers crossed for a quiet night, weather wise, for us all, especially those struggling with flooding and/or snow and ice.

          Hello all.

We arrived at Rose Cottage early afternoon to find the heating has stopped working! House was only 8C. We lit the wood burner and all four electric heaters, then grandson Liam and I went to Diss leaving OH to phone repair men. Liam and I had lunch in the pub then went to the supermarket. OH only managed to get messages saying the heating men were on holiday until Monday. Anyway the sitting room is 22C now. We've put a heater in Liam's room.

I made fish pie for supper then we had raspberries and cream.

It may snow tonight and will be horrid tomorrow, we'll probably spend most of the day in the sitting room.

          Hope you are all OK.

What a nuisance @Busy-Lizzie, just what you don't need after a long journey. Your dinner sounded very moreish!

It's been snowing here since 6 pm with a bitter north easterly wind. Supposed to be turning to rain any minute but temps are only 0.9 so if it freezes, it will be hell in the morning.
            I won't be going out!

Our snow arrived here around 6pm too @lizzie27 and fell fast and furious until around midnight. Supposed to turn to rain before morning but we shall see, at least the temperature is supposed to be going up over the next few days.

Daughter's ex (farmer) and their son set off this evening for the drive over the mountain for their customary Saturday evening meal with us. They used their elderly, trusty 4x4 for the trip due to the snow, the very narrow country lane plus the fact that where it crosses the top of the mountain it has very deep ditches on either side just waiting to catch any driver not paying attention. Low and behold he had hardly left the 'main' road when he came across a car stuck a third of the way up the long hill to the mountain top. He stopped. The car contained four giggling youngsters out for a joy ride in the snow!

To put it mildly, he was not pleased! He told them that he was not prepared to tow them up to the top of the hill because they would still have to turn round and do the dangerous slither back down again. Neither was he prepared to get into their car and back it all the way back down the hill to a nearby farm entrance (their suggestion) so they could turn there to get back to the main road - he was worried he might get blamed if the car slid off the road and/or got damaged in any way. He suggested that with one of them driving and three of them guiding they should surely be able to get the car back down the road themselves, and left them to it promising to look out for them later on his return home.

Further up over the mountain he came across another two vehicles, one behind the other. They all stopped and apparently the first car had been stuck earlier when the second one arrived on the scene. But with their suitable clothing and shared special snow 'tools and shovels' all had been sorted and they were carefully proceeding on their way. They kindly waited while Ex squeezed past them on the narrow road and he waited to make sure they got underway ok, eventually arriving with us some half an hour after the expected time. It was decided that g/son would not stay the night with us as he often does on a Saturday, in case the weather got worse overnight, so as soon as the meal was finished they both set off home. A phone call from g/son later reported a smooth trip home with no other vehicles encountered and also no sign of the giggly crew or their car!

Welcome home @Busy-Lizzie sorry to read about your heating, but glad to hear that you at least have some other warming options. Roll on Monday.

Good morning everyone. Woke up this morning to deep snow and it is still coming down. I will not be venturing out to Church this morning as I am still shaking off this cold. Poor you @Busy-Lizzie, getting home to that scenario. Good job you have alternative forms of heating but I'm guessing no hot water? Goodness me @Anna42, that is a tale and a half but I was glad everyone seems to have got safely away from the mountain. Stay safe and warm all.

@Songbird my amaryllis is just all leaves - no sign whatsoever of a flower bud which is very disappointing. I will take a picture later. I'm hoping there is still a flower bud in the bulb.

Good morning all. I'm glad that you can also enjoy in snow, it's lovely isn't it. Here is grey and wet, and it might rain any moment. If stays dry, I'll try take down rest of my lights. Tea first. Wish you all nice and warm Sunday.

                        Good morning all.

We've had a light dusting of snow in the night. I hope everyone who has snow is OK.

Good to hear from you, @Anna42 .

Warmth! OH left the boiler on timed and it came on this morning! We had hot water bottles in the night and an extra summer duvet on the bed. @Ladybird4 we also have an immersion heater so we did have hot water. The last people here put in the oil boiler and they added the immersion heater for the summer as oil was expensive at the time.

I hope everyone is ok after the cold and snowy night. I must say the garden looked really beautiful last night - branches dusted in sparkly white and foliage that looked piped with dripping icing.

Hoping to have another hibernation day, although we usually go to see MIL on Sundays so we’ll see what the roads are like.

                          Take care all.

                            Good morning everyone.

Dull and grey again here but with a sliver of silver poking thru to the south east. It's supposed to be raining but isn't tho it is cold and breezy so rain may arrive. I've been doing the veggies prep for lunch and am now just having a tea break before heading off to shower.

Glad you got home safely @Busy-Lizzie. Looking at transport news this morning I'm guessing Liam won't be heading to Bristol today.

@Anna42 there was a report from Scotland about rescuing 2 young chaps who'd driven up from the Midlands to see the snow - no proper clothing or safety gear in the car! Not even wellies.

Good decision @Ladybird4. Snow falling on icy paths and roads is not good.

                            Stay safe and warm everyone.

Good morning from a very snowy Yorkshire. We are somewhat sheltered, but the surrounding areas will, I suspect, have much deeper accumulations of snow. Ours is about 2 inches deep, but the snow is now more intermittent, so I’m hoping it won’t be with us too long. Of course the worry then is for flooding for some on top of what they’ve already had.

No church for me either @Ladybird4, we had a phone call to say it was cancelled today, but I wouldn’t have ventured out anyway.

You wouldn’t credit the stupidity of some people, would you, @Obelix-Vendée? Not only do they risk injury or worse to themselves, but they put the people trying to rescue them at unnecessary risk too. These kind of folk make my blood boil.

                              Stay warm and safe everyone.

Morning. We've had a good dollop of the white stuff, but it is thawing. I lay in bed this morning thinking of names for gritters!!

@Songbird @Ladybird4 my new amaryllis from Farmer G have been very disappointing; the most expensive 'Papilio' only has leaves and 'Tabasco' has less than a cm growth - both planted 11/11. I am thinking of complaining. Planted a couple of weeks later, 'Susan' is growing well and has buds, at least.

I expect there have been a handful of people who've gone up Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) in trainers and jeans and had to be rescued.
