@Penny_Forthem I hope you and your OH had a good night's sleep on your new mattress last night. I remember getting my new mattress a few years back and trying several out in the showroom. I like a really firm mattress so those tests were quite important and the shop assistant was extremely helpful.

Good morning all, from the second train of the day, en route to Dublin. The connection was 22 minutes late, but I should still have plenty of time for my transfer to train 3. The first train was fun - a little rural service from Birdhill (well named, lovely dawn chorus at 7am) to Ballybrophy, rattling along and hooting at lots of cattle crossings.

Thanks for the good wishes! Hopefully the Irish Sea won't be too bumpy...

Morning from a dull, but dry, Wales.
My sleep tracker tells me I slept 10 hours last night, but I seemed to wake at the same time as usual (2am) and be awake for 2 hours. Perhaps I'm really asleep when I think I'm awake?
Anyway, the mattress (extra firm Hypnos) was extremely comfortable.
I think you're crossing the Irish sea on a fairly good dy, @Liriodendron. Strong winds are forecast tomorrow.

            Good morning all.

I can't sleep on a firm mattress, an extra firm would be impossible! I sleep on my side so my hip needs to sink into something. We got a medium from Ikea a few years ago and I found it to be rather hard so I bought a mattress topper which has improved it. Anyway, I didn't sleep very well last night because OH kept rolling himself in the duvet so I had draughts. Why are English duvets so short and narrow? French ones are quite a bit bigger, a king size is more like an English super king. OH doesn't want single duvets.

It has been raining, windy and gloomy. Good day to do the weekly shop.

              Good morning,
Grey, breezy and mild here. We had rain earlier and more is forecast for later.
Pilates class is done, I feel suitably stretched now.
I think I’m coming down with OH’s cold, as my throat feels pricklier than yesterday and isn’t easing, like it did yesterday. I should go to the SM, but might leave it until tomorrow.
Glad to hear that the mattress was comfortable @Penny_Forthem, and pleased, too, that the tax issue was quickly sorted @Ante1. That must have been quite alarming. Sad news about your great aunt.
Just having a coffee and then will decide about the SM.
Meant to say @Liriodendron, enjoy your break in Scotland and I hope the crossing is smooth.

Morning all, heavy rain so far but at least it's much warmer, over 12c. Forecast is for some sunshine and dryer after lunch so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

So indoor jobs now, think I might try ironing the new curtains, as there are three pairs that should keep me occupied.

Have a good journey @Liriodendron and enjoy the train/boat journeys.

@Busy-Lizzie, I had the same problem with OH rolling over and taking the duvet with him so bought a king size one for our double bed. I also tuck the top part of my side underneath me a bit to anchor it. Seems to work!

I'm having my hair done tomorrow @Ladybird4 so hope it's not raining/windy then although the forecast doesn't look good.

Hope you're not getting a cold @Blue arbour, there seem to be a lot about.

Sorry for your loss, @Ante1, hope the funeral goes well. Glad the tax scare was resolved quickly.
How annoying for your hair do, @Ladybird4. I even get annoyed if I’ve washed my hair, and then it rains. It only looks tidy on the day I wash it!
What wonderful place names, @Liriodendron! Sounds like an exciting journey.
Woken to heavy rain this morning, could hear it hammering on the roof. The dental check up went well, all fine for a year. Just had a scale and polish, regular ultrasonic thing, and some pumice on a brush, no air polisher, she told me that she only uses that for heavy stains, and complicated crown and bridge work.
Not so pleased with my health MOT after all. Blood test results not back yet, but email from Dr offering me statins. I’ll have to do some reading up on the NICE website, but also wait till I’ve seen my cholesterol etc results. Obviously doesn’t help that I’m overweight, and not getting our long walks in this cold weather, but also I’m still sitting around drinking my second cup of coffee and reading stuff on the internet! Better get up and get on with some chores!

We are on Granddaughter duties today. Grabbing a quiet moment whilst GD and Grandpa inspect the garden. The rain has finally paused and the sun is peeping out so hopefully they will be a little while.

We’ve made muffins, crowns, pipe cleaner flowers and a picture for her Nanny who she will be seeing tomorrow. I am currently sat in my chair with my leg tied by a long piece of string to her dinosaur pencil case. I’m not sure if this is to stop me or the dinosaur running away :hapfeet:

@Ergates, good news on your dental check up, couldn't be otherwise though given your past occupation!
The results of your blood tests should be on your NHS account so you can check them yourself.
I refused statins for a long time but have finally been persuaded as my risk ratio is quite high due to family heart problems and a previous DVT I didn't know anything about. Had them for the last 3 months without any problems or side effects and most recent blood tests showed cholesterol levels had dropped which is good news.

That is so funny @Butterfly6, are you still tethered?

Sorry you're not feeling so good @Tui34, hope you get better soon.

Hope the funeral went ok @Ante1.

Haha, @lizzie27, would have been even better if my parents had been dentists! Most of the damage done to my teeth was done in childhood, so many of my back teeth are very heavily filled and have been living on borrowed time for years. Gums are in great condition though! Both my children have excellent teeth.
My blood tests have come through, and I’ve been checking them on my records. Cholesterol levels are borderline, and my blood pressure isn’t as low as it used to be. A bit more research to do, but it looks as if statins might be the way to go. Good to hear you had no problems with them, @lizzie27.
Didn’t get much done today, but I did ‘tidy’ the freezer drawers. I keep a list of everything that is in each drawer, so I can remind myself what I’ve got in there. Handy for deciding what to have for dinner, always fun to discover that there is something nice that I’d forgotten about. Not so much fun to see the occasional item remaining on the list and staring accusingly at me when I opt for something else. Luckily we have some accommodating wildlife who will help me out with things like the year old pizza. I don’t feel as guilty then as I would if I’d just put it in the bin. My mother had a lovely saying she used when she accidentally dropped food and the dog grabbed it. “It’s never lost, what a friend gets”

Back from a rather odd lunch with cousins.
H didn't really want to meet there, but conceded that, as it was close to her home and had recently got good reviews, she'd go. She asked for a small fish and chips, but a 'normal' portion was all that was on offer. When it came, she had 2 of the largest portions of fish I have ever seen. It could easily have been halved. To add insult to injury, they were not lovely crispy batter, but quite soggy.
I had a 'small' stroganoff, small being the operative word. J had lasagne, which she said wasn't the best. I don't think we'll go there again.
                              Company was good though.
Hope the funeral goes smoothly tomorrow @Ante1

Have you ever tried plant sterol tablets @Ergates ? If your doc is agreeable you could try those for a few weeks first and only then go onto the statins if absolutely necessary.
