I do Wordle @Fourmerkland and I know @Busy-Lizzie does too. Apologies too, as I meant to say earlier, I was sorry to read that your OH is not so well. Hope she recovers soon.

      Good morning all.

I hope the funeral is OK, as far as it can be, @Ladybird4 .

Yes, @Fourmerkland, I do Wordle. We used to post our results on the GW forum but this site won't let us. Some people have tried.

It's been raining but it should clear up this afternoon.

I finished sorting my photos and posted them on the Photobox site for my album but it has changed the way to make the album and I just can't work out how to get the photos into the album, so frustrating.

Thank you @Busy-Lizzie. Have you tried Googling how to create an album in Photobox. There are lots of instructions there.

          Good morning all!!

Yes @Fourmerkland I sometimes do Wordle. We had a thread on our previous gardening site where we could about post our results but alas not here. (Although some tried). I hope Mrs F is feeling better today.

Ah knitting!! I nearly rolled the whole lot up and bunged it away yesterday as I have made a boo-boo and am definitely not going to undo 10 rows!! I will persist this afternoon. You couldn't see the mistake unless you were looking for it but - there are some that like to say - oh! did you make that yourself?" - then start to manhandle the garment!! Good luck @Butterfly6 - it is satisfying if you haven't got too much on. Spring is coming and there are things to be done in the garden - when it isn't raining and mushy underfoot.

Thank you @Obelix-Vendée the cold seems to be easing off this morning. A little cough but no big deal.

Montpellier is just up the "road" - about 45 minutes drive away @Penny_Forthem Lovely city - lots to see and enjoy. 2 weeks isn't long enough to brush up on the French; though. The weather is a bit grim this week, I hope the sun comes out for her next week.

Glad you enjoyed your day @Songbird Birthdays now seem so mundane - a little trip to a restaurant or a special meal to mark the day is nice. (Well, we don't need special days to eat out!!)

Good morning everyone, another grey one here but still mild. At least the winds and rain have stopped. Yesterday ended up been a very lazy day. A few little jobs done and then snuggled with a book. No damage from the winds, I hope everyone else is similarly unscathed.

We are booked in for a quote on the 8th @Ladybird4 Not too concerned at the wait, it will be a long process anyway as planning permission will probably take 12 weeks. The regulations as such are strict but vague! Our little row of cottages do not have any specific features listed, we just have a general listing so it’s rather open to interpretation what we can and cannot do without permission. When we were buying we had a long list of things we might want to do and a very helpful planning officer talked us through as to what we would and wouldn’t need permission for. However it isn’t set in stone and from what we have heard and experienced. It can be at the whim of the planning officer. We have already been through the process twice for windows and there was a change in personnel between the two applications. Second time round the planning officer had different views to his predecessor and we nearly didn’t get approval, despite the requested replacements been identical in style to the first application and as near as we could get to the “original” windows. Said original windows were actually cheaply constructed in 1980 and probably bore no relation to the historical ones they may have replaced!

Our cottages aren’t anything extraordinary and exceptional but are rare for Birmingham. We are a short row of estate worker cottages originally built in the 17th century. Birmingham was quite small until relatively recently and they were swallowed up when the farmland was sold in the 1920s and 1930s for house building. (we are a 15 minute bus ride to the city centre, 10 minutes if there’s little traffic). You’ll see lots of cottages like ours all over the country and elsewhere we probably wouldn’t be listed.

Our plans today are for a walk and then an afternoon in the kitchen. I’ve promised OH a cake and I like to have a cooking day which then sets us up for a few days mealwise (in the fridge or freezer). Boullibaise and a venison casserole are on the list for today. I can catch up with my Archers omnibus at the same time.

Hope the funeral goes well @Ladybird4 with lots of good memories shared.

I also hope recuperations are progressing well for Mrs @Fourmerkland, @Tui34 And mustn’t forget @Penny_Forthem s dogs

                Have a good Monday everyone

Thank you to so many for the good wishes for Mrs F. I think it's going to be weeks, if not months.
I don't expect too much help in the garden this spring.

@Tui34, I wouldn't worry about your booboo! Rumour has it that in the olden days Persian carpet weavers would make a deliberate mistake in every carpet because only their God could produce something that was perfect.

So sorry Mrs F is unwell, hope she does make a quicker recovery, @Fourmerkland
Supposed to be sunny with showers today, so we have decided to stay home. However, just finishing breakfast and the sun has come out, OH is getting fidgety, now wishes we had gone out! Trouble is, he does like to have a coffee and pastry when we have an outing (I can take or leave it) and now he has already eaten! Maybe I can persuade him that we can still have the outing! A good chance it will cloud over shortly anyway.
More clambering on the slope today, plus give the car a clean. Must remember to put the recycling out too.
Hope the funeral goes ok, @Ladybird4. Fascinating to read about your cottage, @Butterfly6.
Glad you are starting to feel much better, @Tui34. I love the sound of living 45 minutes from Montpellier! Never been there, but sounds interesting.

                            Good afternoon,
It’s a pleasant day here today with some sunshine and a bit of blue sky. Nice and mild, too.
I hope Mrs F soon starts to feel better @Fourmerkland.
I’ve spent the morning fettling downstairs as it was in serious need of attention. I’ve made a few spiders homeless.
I’m fed up with this cold, I thought I’d seen it on its way on Saturday but it returned with a vengeance yesterday and is still troublesome today, so I thought I’d better stay away from the coffee morning group this week as I don’t want to spread my germs. I caught it off my OH. It’s ages since I had a cold, a few years I’d say.
That’s true about a deliberate mistake being woven into the carpets, @Ladybird4 as only God is perfect. I read about that some years ago.

Afternoon all. Well the funeral went well and my friend and I bumped into an old colleague and her husband. It was amazing seeing them. Neither of us had realised that they had been neighbours of the couple. It was so nice to have a catch up with them both - the last time I had seen them was when I bumped into them at the Chorley Flower show just after Covid. I had put on some washing before being picked up - mainly four tablecloths from Sunday's tea/coffee morning - and it was all ready to be pegged out as the weather took a change for the better. I've just brought all the washing in, nicely dried.
Sorry to read that the cold has flared up @Blue arbour. I am still coughing!
Needless to say I have not heard from my boiler engineer :gaah:
I am signing out for today. I need to get sorted prior to going out quizzing tonight. Enjoy your evenings and I'll catch up on all your news tomorrow.

                                Afternoon everybody,

Glad the funeral went ok @Ladybird4 and nice you met up with an old colleague at the same event. Pity about your boiler engineer though, no shows by tradespeople seem to be far more prevalent than they used to be although ours are usually pretty good.

My friend had to postpone her birthday treat as she'd had a cold prior to the weekend and was feeling washed out this morning. Re-arranged for Wednesday hopefully. Sympathies to all those similarly affected.

We had torrential rain overnight so weren't surprised to find the lane flooded and impassable without wellies. Hope it drains soon as the alternative route to the shops is a much longer walk and involves a steep hill coming back!

Did some light gardening this afternoon, mainly erecting a small section of bamboo screening to screen a not very nice view of the back of the old garage from the guest bedroom window. Quite tricky in a confined space. I did find a clematis trying to regrow though so hastily protected it against slugs/snails. I do hope it grows, I think it's Dr Ruppel, a dark pink.

Our new shredder has just been delivered. We decided our small one was driving us crazy trying to shred lots of old files so we bit the bullet and got a much bigger one.

I also got the steps out to get to the top of our wardrobe in order to clean a mouldy patch right in the corner of the walls. Had to use a mop thingie on a pole to reach. To do that I had to take my hatboxes off the wardrobe top, found my beautiful wedding hat has got age spots? on the crown although I wrapped it in tissue paper. Can't bear to part with that one but found another hat in very good condition and decided that as I was unlikely to wear it again to any weddings, it's off to the charity shop. I loved wearing hats but hardly anyone does any more which is a real shame. I was the only one at the last wedding we went to.

I'd better start getting dinner ready, it's only Shepherds Pie tonight so won't take long.
