Afternoon all. Funnily enough @Ergates I got a few plant and seed catalogues through the letterbox yesterday and one of them - You Garden - had family trees on offer but these were just two types of the same fruit grafted onto a rootstock. There is a choice of apple, pear, plum and cherry. Quite interesting. That is a beaut @Penny_Forthem.

Evening all, been a glorious warm and sunny day here and I felt much better today so walked to the village shop and back with OH. On the way back we spotted a child's local school blazer, covered in mud chucked on the ground near the post I'd hung it on yesterday. It's been there now for a few days so I've taken it home, washed it and will mend the sleeve lining when it's dry. Then I'll debate whether to drop it in to the school in question or take it to the charity shop. It always grieves me to find abandoned clothing which is usually good quality round here - must be my frugal post war upbringing. I can't bear waste.

Belated Happy Birthday @Ergates, hope you enjoyed your day and got some lovely things at the GC.

That's a beautiful hellebore @Penny_Forthem. My gardener had to dig up one of mine the other day and as I've got lots, I decided to divide it and put it out on the front drive for people to take away, along with some astrantias I also didn't want.

Hope you get what you wanted from Farmer Gracey @Obelix_Vendee.

Good night @Ladybird4, see you tomorrow.

I’d be inclined to drop the blazer in to the school, @lizzie27. Somewhere there will be a frustrated parent wondering how it is possible that their child cannot remember when they last saw their lost item! I do remember having to backtrack round the streets of Bath trying to locate some expensive item that my son had managed to mislay. He used to sit on the wall outside school waiting for us to collect him, and once left his swimming bag ( with almost new gear in) behind the wall. Never saw that again, very annoying especially as it had his name tags in, and it was outside his own school. At least it wasn’t shoes!
No way I’m posting a photo of myself, @Busy-Lizzie! I struggle to find one that doesn’t make me wince, so wouldn’t inflict that on someone else. On the plus side, one friend said on seeing a photo of me, that I don’t actually look like that. So maybe the camera does lie sometimes, I do hope so!

It's been a glorious day here too, I'm happy to say. Gardening in shirt sleeves early in March isn't bad... I got a lot done, accompanied by the ear-splitting song of the wren in the hedge just a metre or so away. Also the robin, pleased that I was uncovering various bugs and grubs for his lunch. I don't think I'm too stiff, though maybe when I've been sitting for a while I might change my mind about that!

Glad you're feeling better, @lizzie27 . I agree with @Ergates that delivering the blazer to the school might be the best idea. Kind of you to wash and mend it!

Rather tired boys and girls here. We did a London Bridges walk in aid of Renie Grove peace hospice today. Me and my OH went along to support the family as we had sponsored them, but they signed us up as well
In fact the family combined were in their top 5 for fund raising for this event. Fortunately the weather was glorious so it was an enjoyable day, even though pounding the streets of London can be surprisingly tiring.

I painted the cupboard built into the wall in the breakfast room. Needs another coat, maybe two. The pale sage green is paler than I expected.

It has rained all day. The lawn is now squelchy and there is water in the edges of the round rose bed.

There is a thread somewhere on this site where people, including me, have posted photos of themselves. Maybe called Faces to Names or something like that.

Good morning everyone. I've just been watching a snippet on the news about the King's favourite songs list which is being released as part of today's celebrations of Commonwealth Day. The songs include many from the various Commonwealth countries and beyond. I have to say I am totally impressed. I remember seeing him imitating the dance from The Full Monty some years ago.
I am another one who agrees with dropping the blazer back to the school @lizzie27. School uniforms are not cheap and someone may be very grateful for its return - washed and repaired is a great kindness.
Well done @Allotment Boy - a fantastic effort for a worthy cause. Loving those soulful eyes @Penny_Forthem.
Having had three reminders, I will be having a telephone consultation this morning. We discussed these rather strange 'summonses' a few weeks back. I had my annual consultation last year - on 26th November to be exact - so this appointment came out of the blue. Hopefully all will become clear at around 11:00 today

                          Good morning all!!

A wet and windy weekend but I was happy that the rain soaked into the manure and topsoil and dampened it down. It will rest now until mid-May when I plant. So indoor jobs this weekend - well didn't get much done really!!

Those dogs of yours are just gorgeous @Penny_Forthem I imagine you are watching Cruft's !!

Having worked in a primary school, it is astonishing the amount of clothing that ends up in the lost property bin - even spread out on tables for children to claim doesn't work. Clothing needs labelling. Much easier!

I hope you all have an enjoyable Commonwealth day today. B0DEE8F0-C313-4230-900B-F28FD934B289.jpeg

A little stiff after lots of gardening over the weekend but very enjoyable in the warm sunshine. GD and daughter visited yesterday afternoon, SIL was helping his sister with a UNi assignment over zoom. We had great fun topping up the pond from the waterbutt, inspecting the progress of the frogspawn, spotting newts and giving the raggedy tent its first 2025 outing. The tent is so called as it’s made from old sheets and flops over a convenient walnut tree branch (which acts as the roof pole) with old ribbons to the tie up the back and the base to pegs ( aka the plastic pegs sold for using with weed membrane).

Planning a canal walk this morning and then it’s work for a while this afternoon. Weather is already turning and forecast to be back into winter mode by Wednesday.

Agree re returning the blazer to the school @lizzie27 . My son was always losing shoes, jumpers and coats, invariably after been used as goalposts apparently. The school would hold a Uniform jumble sale each term and sell off all the unclaimed items. I don’t remember my daughter losing very much at all, despite been a complete feather brain when she was little.

                                Morning all.

I have to go to the DIY shop for a small paint roller as the one I have isn't very good, having been used and washed before. Then I'll carry on with the kitchen cupboard painting this morning.

It is sunny at the moment so I will be able to hang the bedding on the line. I change the bedding before we leave but I don't wash it as there isn't time. I leave it in the utility room until we get back. I'm glad the weather has been better than last year. When we returned from Norfolk last year it had solidly tipped with rain and the house smelt damp. It's OK this year.

If it isn't too wet outside I'll do some gardening this afternoon.
