Yawn yawn, wakey wakey Autumn 2018

Aloha everyone,

After yesterday's big family gathering here - me as chef - I've been ordered to rest today by SWMBO. Everything went even better than planned Loads of the chicken and lamb curries left over if anyone wants a take-away . The cream DIY teas went well with everyone helping themselves to scones, jam and Cornish clotted cream. The cream came in individual tubs from the church event in one of the villages nearby on Saturday. We provided all the greenery for the church flower arrangements and they gave us a load of the cream that was left over after the event. Everyone happy.

My back is feeling OK but I shall take it easy and actually had a lie in this morning.

Afternoon all

Sorry I am late on parade, I decided to make the most of the cooler part of the day and pressure wash the patio; it is amazing what you can do from a commode seat!

I am absolutely knackered now though, and my hands are killing me - if anything it is more of a workout doing it sat down than it is stood up and walking about, not least as I was having to self propel the commode around the patio. Still, it is all physio at the end of the day.

I'm sticking to my ban on gardening today.

So I have finished the dishwashing of all yesterday's stuff, including some very big pans. I also did the clothes washing and drying (well, I did put them into the machines and turned them on ) and am about to start on the ironing.

I've also done the hoovering.

I'm hiding from the sun and it will be cooler tomorrow before the temperature heads back up again

It's overcast and a bit cooler this morning - just about perfect

My back seems fine this morning so I'll do some harvesting of courgettes, rhubarb and beans. I'll take it slowly just in case it starts to trouble me, in which case I'll stop immediately.

It was funny on Sunday with the supper. I'd laid everything out on tables in the pergola. There were three different breads, loads of cheeses, some lovely tinned salmon fish cakes that Mrs Shiney had made, a big platter of smoked salmon, houmous, coleslaw, salad, tomatoes, cucumber, two different types of pickled cucumber, and a number of other dishes.

All of them were covered with kitchen paper to keep flies off and people lifted the paper, took what they wanted and then replaced the paper so it was all ready for seconds. We'd all helped ourselves and were sitting at the tables on the lawn.

I decided to get up and check that all the papers were on the food and when I walked over there one of the plates had the paper neatly folded back and Sarafi was eating the smoked salmon!
