    Morning all.

Haven't we been blessed with the weather lately, it's been positively gorgeous. Mind you, could do with a drop of the wet stuff now I think.. Not too much mind. :heehee:

Have been busy doing some odd jobs about the house and garden the last few days, trips to the tip etc. Still got an awful lot of clearing to be done, but I'll get there if it kills me! I'm a tad excited this week, as my Greenhouse is being delivered on Friday. :yess: :happydance:
I just hope that if it does rain, that it's dry again by the weekend so the chaps can come and build it!

Well, a day of pottering and ironing beckons, so I think I'll put the kettle on for one more cuppa before I start.

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone. xx

    Good morning everyone,

Dull and windy with temperature down quite a bit. The weather's not so good either :loll: :loll:

woo, I hope you had a very good Easter and look after yourself :)

Kandy, you seem to be getting fairly well advanced with the veggies etc

Joolz, you'll be in your element once the greenhouse is up :dancy:. They've forecast rain down here for Friday (the only day in the next couple of weeks forecast to be without sunshine. We really need it as we haven't seen much rain for well over two months.

Ruth, I suppose if people didn't have gardens like that you may be short of work :).

I'm going to take a break from gardening today (Mrs shiney's orders) as my back is suffering but it is a lot better than it has been. We're beginning to get everything into shape for open day but just the basic maintenance is taking more and more time as things are growing quicker. Approx 7 hours a week mowing and three hours trimming the edges. Watering the greenhouse, pot plants, baskets, nursery beds is taking 45 minutes twice a day. And I'm still working (very slowly) on pressure hosing the paving - about another 12 hours to go. Phew!! Need to have a cuppa now :coffee:

    Have a great day :D

    Good morning everyone,

Nice to see other members popping by to say Hi:yess: and it is nice to hear what others are doing in their day:D

Shiney, hope that you don't have too much extra to do in the run up to your big day as there is still a month to go and you don't want to ruin your health before it gets here.We often say it would be nice to have a bigger garden but don't think we could manage too much now at our age and getting stiffer joints :D

Joolz, had a quick loom at your album photos and you ahve a nice sized garden and it will benefit from the greenhouse when it gets here at the weekend and if you are anyhting like us you will soon fill it :D

Bam,know what you mean about wildernesses,my father in law is 91 and has a very big garden and his is running away with it's self and refuses to pay someone to work on it {he has the money}We spent for hours last Sarturday clearing a bit for his runner beans and sweetcorn and it nearly killled me in the heat soi you have my sympathies:yess:

    Penny I bet you are looking ofrward to the spring and getting a lot warmer weather than what you have been getting of late .We could do with some more rain though {ten spots fifiteen minutes ago :yess:}

Anyway,we went over to the allotment last night and got the runner bean seeds sown and watered everything and mr Kandy showed me all the rabbit proof netting he has put up but I forgot to take some photos of it for my records :wallbang:

Here is the photo as promised of the sun {dog as Mr K calls it}Hope you all have a good day :)

    Good morning Kandy and everyone,

Still no rain and it warmed up a bit yesterday when the sun came out about lunchtime. A bit freary at the moment but no rain due until wedding day. Mrs shiney will watch the wedding and I'll go shopping - shops should be empty :heehee:

Kandy, nice photo :dbgrtmb:. As long as I do regular maintenance of the lawns it is not difficult even though it takes a fair bit of time. I've got nearly all the bean canes in now and shall get Tracey to see whether she can push them in a bit further - she'll be here in half an hour.

Whilst typing this a goldcrest was peering in the window :yahoo: :). Haven't seen one do that for a few years. I'll have to keep the camera here and see whether I can take photos like I did last time.

I'll do a bit more pressure hosing today and I'm going to try doing it whilst sitting down :D

    Have a great day :D

    Hi Shiney,

We have cold weather here now so i am a bit dissapointed with the change as i had got used to the warmth seeping into my creaky bones:yess:I cut my lawns on Monday as the back one had got quiet long in just a short time and I hadn't put the blade down to low for fear of scalping it and then the moss comes back :rolleyespink:

We only see the goldcrests in the wild, usually up high in the fir trees so can never get a good piccky of them so you are lucky to have them so close to you:dbgrtmb:Where we used to live,we had a fir tree and would often get Long Tailed Tits in it but can't remember whether we ever had a Goldcrest visit:scratch:

Mr Kandy said our neighbour was trying to clear his windscreen after the rain spots had hit it,because his windscreen is filthy with dust and mixed in with the rain spots was making a mess of it :heehee:

    Enjoy your day :)

      Good morning everyone,

Rather chilly this morning so have put the heating back on.Dry again as well and the cracks in my borders are getting even wider through the lack of rain:cry3:

Just watching the news about the people camping out raedy for the wedding tomorrow.I am glad that we are not there as once the crowds get a hundred deep whereever you are standing, when the time comes to have a wee,it would be a battle to fight your way to the loos, queue for an hour{like us women always have to}then try to remember the exact spot where you were standing, before fighting your way back through the crowds to reach the front again, the royal carriage will have gone past so we would rather sit and watch the event in the comfort of our home in the warm and with a nice clean loo just a few yards away :heehee:A very large tent has gone up in one of the gardens in the village so someone is planning on making it a big event:D

Penny, yes send us some rain but make it Saturday please after the wedding. Are they celebrating it over in Canada and will you be watching it if they are showing it on TV?

      Have a good day everyone:)

      Good morning everyone,

It's chilly here today and rather dull at the moment. The forecast is sunny but a max of 16C for today with 30% chance of rain in the night but clearing by 9 a.m. tomorrow. I shall wrap up warm and mow the lawns as we have family coming for dinner tomorrow evening. I didn't do any pressure hosing as I didn't think my back was up to it - but still got quite a bit done in the garden.

Mrs shiney planted out sweetcorn (12" high), courgettes (starting to get a little leggy), cabbages, beetroot and lettuces. All went under cheepie plastic cloches bought in Poundland. They're each 1.5 metres long and cover two rows and just £1 :dbgrtmb:. Mrs shiney put sticks at the ends to try and keep pigeons and rabbits out - we hope. I'll check it when I go out and may add more twigs.

I've got to plan the shopping for dinner tomorrow and we shall prepare some of the food today.
Smoked trout pate starter done with soft, light, cheese and fresh dill, served with a side salad topped with home sprouted alfalfa, mung beans etc and served with toast. The dessert will be a choice of fresh fruits and/or dark chocolate pots done with passion fruit liqueur and no added sugar. Both the pate and pots are best made in advance and kept in the fridge. Actually quite healthy dishes
Main course will be roast chicken lightly seasoned with garlic and herbs and served with lots of crispy roasties and a medley of blanched and lightly stir fried sugar snap peas, broccoli, asparagus and carrots finished by being tossed in one ounce of a very light flavoured stock. I think I'll also give them some yorkshire puds made for me by my Aunt Bessie :heehee:. They'll go well with the gravy I'll make. :dbgrtmb:

Well, that's helped me get things straight in my mind :D and I've now got my shopping list done. :happydance:

      Have a great day :D

Good morning Woo and everyone on this special day that I and billions of others round the world will enjoy:yess::cool:

Woo,hope you have a good day and that you enjoy whatever you have planned today with your family :dbgrtmb:

Shiney sounds like you have got everything planned quiet well for todays meals. We are not having anything special today for our evening meal but hope that you all enjoy yours:dbgrtmb:

Penny I have been up sice 5.30am this morning and already have the telly on to enjoy every miniute of it as I do love these special occassions along with you and many people around the globe :yess:Hope you and your family and friends and the whole of Canada have a really lovely day and have lots of happy memories of this well loved couple:cool:My only gripe is that I hope we don't have to know Catherine as Princess William, rather would have it as Princess Catherine:yess:Nice to see William out last night shaking hands with all the well wishers rather than being tucked up in bed.I bet it made their day :D

Looking forward also to seeing Catherines dress and the the trees inside Westminster Abbey, that she asked for :sunny:I am going to get Mr Kandy

Well we have rain here falling ever so gently at the moment. It came with some force that woke me up at 5.20am but now has turned to very fine stuff so just hoping and praying that it isn't a washout for the many thousands of people lining the London Streets as I type this post:rolleyespink:

Have a good day everyone in all that you do and please watch some of THE wedding of the century and History in the making :D

      Good morning everyone,

It's quite bright and cheerful at the moment and a bit warmer than it has been in the last couple of days. No rain in the night and our forecast is 30% possible scattered showers late morning.

Enjoy your wedding watching. Have you downloaded your wedding programme and order of service that Daisees has posted on the 'Royal Wedding' thread?

I'm off out to carry on gardening soon and Mrs shiney shall be watching the wedding.

      Have a great day :D
