    Good morning everyone,

I've just got back, about half hour ago, from taking Mrs shiney to the station as this is one of her college weekends. I'll pick her up this evening.
These weekends have been quite awkward from a travelling point of view because of all the engineering works on the London underground and on our local mainline route.
Today isn't too bad as she can get to London from our local station, but her normal choice of three underground lines from Liverpool St are not available as they are all closed. So she will have to go a long way round.
Tomorrow will be more awkward as they are still closed and so is our local line. So I shall have to drive her to the nearest mainline station on another line. That is 16 miles each way - morning and evening.

My knee has improved so I shall do a few hours of mowing :dbgrtmb:

Yesterday afternoon our kitchen floor was completely covered in flying ants. Mrs shiney spent about an hour getting rid of them as more kept emerging from somewhere under our freezer. I reckon that the ants have eaten their way up through the concrete floor. About twenty years ago they did the same and when we refitted the kitchen six years ago we dug out that part of the concrete and redid it. So it's probably taken them all those years to tunnel back in.

    Have a great day :D

    Morning everyone,

It's a bit dull here this morning after the rain last evening so at least everything got watered.:)

Had a good few hours at the lottie yesterday harvesting beans, plums, pears etc and then spent the evening preparing them for the freezer so that is another lot out of the way plus will have some with the beef today:D

Shiney,Mr Kandy is going down to Threadneedle street very soon for the day so hopefully there won't be any problems with the underground by then:D

    Have a good day everyone:)

    Good morning everyone,

Just got back from my 16 mile each way journey and the roads were very clear.

Yesterday we had some very heavy rain in the afternoon and the garden is looking a bit happier. It's dull out there at the moment but beginning to warm up.

Kandy, the underground engineering works will be running until well into next year. It is only happening on the weekends so if he is travelling then he will need to check up on which lines are being worked on. Here's a link to the info but he'll need to refresh it to make sure he has the right weekend. It tells you the date in the middle of the page

Planned engineering works for this weekend

If suitable underground trains aren't available then it's quite a nice walk from St Pancras (I'm guessing that is where your trains go to) to Threadneedle St.

The sun has just come out :sunny:

    Have a great day :D

      Hi Shiney,

      Thanks for that link:thumbsup:

Mr Kandy is going down on the 31st and his train will go to St Pancras then he is due to go on the underground to Bank{Threadneedle St} where he will spend the day on a course. As his firm has just announced they have to make a £400,000 saving over the nxt few months or there will be twenty redundancies i am suprised they haven't told him to start walking to where he is going to save some money:D

Louise, nothing worse than holidaymakers holding everyone up on the motorways especially the caravans and coaches etc.:rolleyespink:Mind you we always complain about the slow lorries that hog the middle lane when we are trying to get to our destination :D

Kandy, as the 31st is a Wednesday the underground will be OK. It's only four stops on the Northern Line to Bank and Threadneedle St is right there. :dbgrtmb:

Mrs shiney and I are having to go up there the following day to the Guildhall which is just round the corner from Threadneedle St. One of our friends is being honoured by being given the Freedom Of The City. She works for the local authority and is being given it for all the hard work she has done for the City. It's good to see one of the workers get it instead of the bosses. :yess:

        Good morning everyone,

Only just got up and the news says that the rebels have finally taken Green Square in Libya but don't really know what is going on as the news items are a bit sketchy,so perhaps now the fighting might stop:)

Shiney hope all goes well with your friend next week, sounds like she has worked hard to deserve the freedom of the city:D

Anyway, this is the last dry day forecast before the rain comes this week and this morning i have to go to the dentist for a check up but expect i shall have to have a filling as i have a small hole in one of my nashers:rolleyespink::OUCH:

        Have a good day everyone:sunny:

        Good morning everyone,

        Another lovely sunny day :sunny:

Kandy, I hope your visit the the dentist goes OK :dbgrtmb:

I don't think that we have seen the end of the fighting in Lybia and it might get a bit nastier for a while :(

Our forecast (for what it's worth) is hot and sunny today, thunder and rain during the night with showers tomorrow, sunny Wednesday, rain Thursday, showers Friday, Sunny Saturday , rain Sunday and sunny Monday.

Now that I've put it on here I can check each day to see whether they were right :heehee:. We've got a busy Bank Holiday weekend planned with friends coming on Saturday, a wedding on Sunday (makes a change from all the funerals we've had) and off to the Chilli Festival on Monday.

        Have a great day :D

Good morning everyone and the four guests looking in:D

Dull out there this morning and looks like we shall soon have some rain so we shall see what happens:D

Picked another large bowl full of raspberris yesterday and some more runner beans although they seem to be slowing a bit now so hopefully they will pick up soon.Have the frist of the toms ripening on a plant which was a self set one and as it is a tumbling variety have no idea where it come from although there was compost bins where the toms are growing so it must have tumbled out of there :DI really must get my allotment thread up to date to show the chappies on here that even us chappets can grow good fruit and veggies on the lotties:heehee:

By the way if anyone out there knows of a place on the net where i can report ladybirds with a mite problem I would be greatful as i keep find dead/alive ladybirds in my compost bins with some sort of mite clustered on them sucking the life out of them,i will contact them to report it as this might be a new problem to the insect world and i have photos of the problem that thye can see as it would be a shame if our ladybirds start to die because of it...Thanks:help:

Have an enjoyable day everyone including the guests:D

        Good morning everyone,

Last night's promised storms never arrived and it only started raining at 7.14 this morning. I get the feeling that it will continue all day.

Kandy, ladybirds apparently are prone to parasites and many other diseases so I shouldn't think it's an unusual event.

Our beans have been cropping very heavily (about 78lb this week) but seem to be having a bit of a problem. Some of the plants are now producing knobbly beans which doesn't normally happen until nearly the end of the season and a few plants have all their beans drying up and going floppy (a technical term :heehee:). None of them are lacking water and the plants that have the drying up beans have still got healthy leaves and no sign of aphids .

Tuesday is the day I have the largest amount of customers for crops so I packaged up 30lb of beans and 60lb of pears. I know I shall get rid of all the beans but am not sure about the pears.

The wheat field at the back of us has now been harvested and ploughed so this rain will wash off all the thick dust from the harvesting :dbgrtmb:

        Have a great day :D

Good morning Louise, Kandy & Shiney,

It is pouring down here so no gardening for me today!

Had lots of compliments about the garden on Sunday, which was really nice to hear, we had 26 round for a BBQ and luckily we had a wonderful dry day so we were all outside.

Lots of work to do indoors today.

        Have a great day everyone.
