Jessss, I doubt that is the reason but there are certain scents that attract them more than others. According to some research I read a few years ago they appear to be more attracted to you if you've been eating bananas and less attracted if you've been eating things like Marmite that contain vitamin B and/or yeast.

Good afternoon everyone, well my day started as you know with erecting 4 fence panels and 5 posts to protect my plan for a tropical section in Woos garden,I proceeded to put the first post holder in the ground(them red metal things);) I placed the rubber tool in to the post holder, thinking this won,t take yours truly long, and with a 14lb sledge hammer drove it in the ground, like going into butter, and then realized that I could,nt remove the rubber tool from the post,it had gone right in to the post holder,:wallbanging::heehee: There must be a moral to this story, and I will continue this saga tomorrow:lunapic 130165696578242 5: Signed your truly "feeling stupid" in Kent:loll:Mrs Woo is still laughing:roflol:

Woo :heehee:, in my younger days I came across that problem . I gave up with tool and moved on to using a piece of a plank of wood laid across the top of the post. The only trouble with that was it started to go in slightly wonky. Every couple of hits I had to walk 90 degrees around the post so that it drove in vertically.

Good luck with the work tomorrow. :dbgrtmb:

Good evening Loli and Shiney I decided in my infinite wisdom;) that as the post holder/rubber tool was paid for that I would drive it in to the soil in an obscure part of the garden and then bury it,at least that way it had been used and not wasted:lunapic 130165696578242 5:

      Good evening everyone.

Hope you are all ok and looking forward to the BH break this weekend:smile:

Still busy at the moment and have just had a quick five minute break in between podding peas and cutting up beans ready for freezing and the usual eating them fresh with our meals :snork: The birds/wasps have started on my Cox's apples, and the very few plums we have are being eaten by the above before they have even been fully ripened so at this rate we won't be getting anything to eat this year,oh and something has been nibbling my sweetcorn kernals before they are ready:mad: but we are now picking Autumn raspberries so will have something to eat over the winter months:snork:

Looking forward to watching Restoration Man now so will sign off until tomoz:snork:

        Aloha Everyone,

Not so nice this morning looks like it is going to rain. I have put some washing out under my gazebo but if there is dampness in the air as there is now I suspect it is not going to dry out there and I might has well put it over the horse in doors.

Kandy it is a shame you are losing a lot of the fruits of your labours to outside sources. Nearly spelt that sauces as I think it is a bit of a sauce for the wild life to help themselves without so much as a please!:ouch1:

Thank you WOO for your greeting I hope that back of yours is behaving itself. Do take care if you are busy fencing.

Shiney, yes we always preferred to use a block of wood on top of the spikes to drive them in the ground with a club hammer.

Waves to Loli, Penny and Kaz, haven't seen Jenny on here lately?

        Aloha All !:wub2:

have already been to work and just got one more call and thats me done for day (split shift) it is raining again so going to potter in the garage and tidy up my potting area as it is already looking messy

woo that post holder story did raise a smile i am sorry but i have done the same thing myself :snork:
Penny only three weeks now we will expect to see pictures :)

Kandy our peas on the plot havent been the best this year as the wind snapped most to the ground a while back but i have more in, i too am up to me eyes in beans they seem to take forever to get into the freezer, sorry that your plums and apples have been had by the wasps it can be so disheartening i dont mind sharing but when we get nothing its just not fair my raspberry canes i think are now to old the were inherited on the plot but they dont seem to be producing much fruit at !

waves to Moyra loli and shiney
hope you all have a lovely bank holiday, has any one got plans ?
take care and be blessed in all you do do with love.jpg

          Good late morning everyone:smile:

I am a bit late this morning as we got woken up in the early hours with one of the neighbours burglar alarm going off so had to put up with that racket plus once it had stopped there was some other sort of noise coming from it:mad: Why do people bother to set these alarms when they are not around because no one in their right mind is going to struggle out of bed in all weathers just to go down to their house and get deafened with the noise just to see if anyone was trying to break in{and possible get coshed over the head in the process}when it was probably a spider on patrol who set it off anyway. The owners house is now unalarmed as it has gone off unless they have contacted someone before they went to keep an eye on the place and reset it.We had a phone call the other week when we got back from the wedding from a friends neighbour to say their alarm had gone off and if we had a key would we go up and sort it out.{I was in my jim jams at the time,so had to put on a coat and get Mr Kandy to take me up there as i wasn't going in the pitch dark:nonofinger::mad:

Anyway,Woo,please take it easy when you are doing these tasks as it is all too easy to put your back out when trying to do heavy manual work, but you are a bit like us in that respect and like to get the jobs done:biggrin:

Moyra, I have put out two loads of washing and just hoping that the rain keeps off until it has dried.Good idea with putting it under the gabezo though:blue thumb:

Kaz and Moyra, yes it isn't funny having creatures nibbling the sweetcorn and other crops but we have the allotments overrun with rats at the moment because 99% of the chicken keepers don't keep them cleaned out and we are the mugs having to buy the poison to kill them off because they are eating their way underneath our sheds where they live.I don't mind killing them but worried about any wildlife that might take the bodies and end up poisoning themselves but apart from shooting them can't see how we can get rid of them as the old boy that used to be the rat catcher popped his clogs a few months ago:eeew:

Kaz we have some raspberry canes that a friend of mine gave up when we took on our first plot 32 years ago and they are still going strong and produccing fruit so it might be just the sort of year we are having at the moment...

Hope Shiney, Loli,Jenny,Marley Penny and everyone else who reads these posts are all well and having a good day:smile:

          Good morning everyone,
Hope everyone is well this morning:dbgrtmb:
We had a good down pour during the night so the butts are full to over flowing....so that's one job for today...to go around the garden watering the plants that get missed by the weather:dbgrtmb:
Young Theodore was at the vets for his check up last night....he had his stitches taken out from where the vet did the biopsys and got his results....it turns out he has a mild allergy to just about everything food related:huh:...i'm not entirely convinced ....but there was alot of information to take in so i'll pop to the vets today and ask for the print out of the results and it may become clearer then....Mr L took him and he doesn't ask as many questions as i do:biggrin:....but for just short of £2000 i expect more than that....for example what food sets his skin off..so we can avoid them...he's got another 3 weeks worth of steriods and anti-b's to take but i think they may just be masking the problem as his skin and fur is fine now and he's not itching:dunno: i hope it's not croissants he's allergic to as he's just had them for his brekkie:heehee:
          I wish you all a lovely day...Take care:SUNsmile:

          Aloha everyone,

It's our officially recognised (long story) wedding anniversary today. 47 very happy years :wub2:

So far today I've scrubbed the cooker (and it's a very big one), washed all the light fittings in the extractor fans and, later on shall wax Mrs Shiney's car. :dbgrtmb:

We've just had some friends turn up for coffee and freshly made bread pudding (still hot) as it's our friends's birthday today.

          Have a great day

          Aloha!

          Aloha Everybody!

Oh Loli 2 Grand, I hope you have insurance on the boys. Mind you that's expensive. I have changed from Tesco Insurance for Amber to Direct Line £6 a a month saving for the same benefits! Well Tesco wanted to celebrate her first birthday by putting it up another £5 per month. You cant tell me that the difference between a year old dog and a fifteen month old dog can be that much its nuts. So you definitely want to have a print out of the research they did on Theo. Although sometimes it is more a case of trial and error trying to find out what affects them.

Kandy, it is always a worry when you put poison of any sort down to kill off pests. You do it and have to hope for the best that what you are doing is not going to have devastating results.

Waves to Shiney, WOO, Penny et al and hope you are all at your best. Take care all.

          Aloha all !:wub2:
