      Aloha everyone,

We're nice and warm and cosy again. :blue thumb:

I don't know what it's like, either!! Memory of a goldfish! :heehee:

Solar panels and all the other bits and pieces were put up Monday but they have to come back to get everything sorted now that we have power back.

Have had a good wander round the garden (quite nippy out there) and things aren't too bad.

Got to rush as I'm off to a bridge tournament in an hour.

Keep well and have a great day

      Aloha!

      Morning everyone,

Its not as cold here this morning, in fact its raining out but still cool. If it stops I want to get out and rake some leaves, but we'll see.

I'm out around lunch to make some deliveries for Brad, so its kind of nice having the morning to myself. I did get all of our winter clothes home and washed, stack of laundry that I need to put away, so I'll do that this morning too.

We had Natalie and Daniel here last night for awhile, Dan had hockey and she didn't feel like sitting home alone, so she brought Peanut up for a visit, so of course Grandma had to bath him (lol).

Cant believe that tomorrow is Halloween already....I made up 50 treat bags for the kiddies, last couple of years we've had around 40-50 kids.

Off to get some laundry out of the dryer, so enjoy your day everyone.

The results of my eye tests went well this morning and they are pleased that the pressure has dropped. I haven't got to go back for 6 months but have to continue to use the drops daily. Have a good day all. Glad you got your power back Shiney. God bless all.

      Good morning everyone,

Moyra very good news about your eyes and keep doing the right things and they should start to get better:blue thumb:

Shiney, power cuts won't affect you now surely as you are generating your own power so you won't have a problem when we have black outs this year:scratch:

Looks like we have had some rain overnight and the wind has dropped again but I think it is going to be a wet weekend or part of the weekend if the forecasters have got it right:nonofinger:

      Enjoy your day everyone:smile:

      Aloha everyone,

      I'm still here! :heehee:

Kandy, unfortunately it doesn't work that way. The power generated by the solar panels is DC electricity (the type you have in batteries and that runs cars etc.). It goes to a big box up in the loft called an Inverter which turns it into AC electricity (which is the type of electricity our houses run on).

When we have a power cut the Inverter won't work because it needs AC to run on. Even if it did work it would have a cut-off switch because of 'Elf and Safety. As the system automatically feeds spare electricity into the national grid it wouldn't allow it to happen because it may feed it back down the system just as the engineers are working on the fault :yikes:.

Although, in theory, we could store the DC electricity in powerful batteries in the loft (to be used at night when the panels aren't getting any light to produce the power) it isn't practical as the battteries that take the output would weigh about 3 tons. Just like the big batteries they have in milk floats.

The reason they pay us for the electricity we produce is, on a small scale, what we are producing saves the countries power stations having to produce it. If enough people had solar panels it might save the problems that they say we are heading for in the next few years. It also reduces the amount of greenhouse gases as the electricity we produce from the panels is 'clean' energy.

Let's hope they can now get our system up and running. :blue thumb: The man will be here at 8 a.m.

It doesn't mean that we have totally free electricity as the system doesn't generate enough to run a lot of things and it doesn't generate anything in the dark. The brighter the weather the more it generates so, in the autumn and winter it doesn't produce all that much. Whne it's running at peak production it will produce something under 4kWh which is enough to power our lights, computer, TV, fridge, freezer etc but not enough to do that and run more powerful things like washing machine, dishwasher, tumble dryer, heating etc. When we're not running those power hungry machines there will be excess electricity which gets fed automatically back into the national grid for everyone else to use.

Unfortunately I can't tell the system to send it to you .

I've got a busy day ahead. Apart from the electrician coming this morning we're taking a couple out for lunch. They are in their 90's and he is still recovering from a broken hip (walks with a frame now) and she's recovering from having broken her ankle (now hobbling along on crutches and with a great big boot on her leg. They can't get out and about so we're treating them.

When we get back from that I've got to do a load of cooking. Mrs Shiney is having one of her groups round for dinner tomorrow night and I'm going to cook it all today. I can't cook it tomorrow as I'm going away for a three day national bridge tournament in Daventry.

      Rush, rush, rush! :heehee:

      Have a great weekend

      Aloha!
