Moyra, I was referring to Council Tax Benefit. The government have taken away a lot of the subsidy they gave local authorities for CTB so local authorities are having to cut back.

Each authority has to make savings in whichever way they choose but I think that most of them are following similar lines.

Barry's authority are being pretty heavy handed for everyone but pensioners. For non-pensioners they are removing the benefit completely if they have savings of £6,000 or more. The ones that have less will still have to pay a percentage of the Council Tax.

They say that pensioners don't come into it so will not have their CTB affected. I think they may, possibly, be asked to pay a small percentage.

For people that will be in trouble if their benefit is removed/reduced will be expected to apply to the DWP for some other sort of top up to their benefits. I think the local authorities are getting back at the government for the cuts and trying to force some people to get more money from the government instead of the council.

I don't think you will be affected as you're a pensioner.

    Hello to everyone,

Just said bye to my son who came to visit, bringing my grandson Sam, oh I was so happy, played games with Sam, he is such a funny chap.

Sitting in my reclining chair with my heat pad on, I have felt the cold today, been getting ready for a table top sale in our local church hall on Saturday, hope I have a good day, been knitting furiosly , and going to sell my jams and chutney's.

Hope all the sickies will feel better soon.;)

          Aloha everyone,

Woo, good to see you back on here. Take care, my friend, and I wish you lots better. Mrs S sends her love :blue thumb:

Loli, you take care of that cold . Do you wear a mask at work?

Lili, it's really cold today so wrap up very warm when you're in the hall.

I wish all of you a lot better and be careful out there.

I got a bit more work done in the garden yesterday but it was really cold. I shan't bother to go out today (except to get Mrs Shiney's paper - she only has it on Saturdays) but have the cooking to do for the students.

          Have a great day

          Aloha!

            Aloha everyone,

Good to see WOO back again, hope you are feeling much better now WOO.

Loli, hope you manage to throw off that cold. That is the problem with them just when you think you have got shot of it back it comes.

Shiney, you must be getting a fair way round your garden now. I still cannot get onto my lawn yet. We had to put stepping slabs in from my patio to the lilac tree where my bird station is because it started to become very muddy. I put sand down first of all but that didn't last long so Steve came up with some thick tiles a foot square.

Waves to Lili, Kandy, Mum, Penny et al. Take care everyone and have a good day, it was snowing here and trying to settle. I think it has stopped now, thankfully.

            Aloha!:wub2:

Moyra, it will take a long time getting all the edges done. My back will only take me doing about 25ft at a time. Shaping and cutting it, picking the debris up and then weeding the bed where it meets the edge is more than enough for me. That usually fills a bucket. With over 1,000ft of edging to do it is no quick job.

Once the edges have been done, for the rest of the year, I can trim them all in about an hour and a half (without picking up any clippings). Mrs Shiney can whip round and pick those up quite quickly.

Morning friends, it is cold and a bit snowy here.
Woo, so pleased you are feeling a little better - no flying until you are recovered or the oily rags will be coming your way!
I have read back to catch up :)
It is a quiet day here, OH is in the airing cupboard
We have a small leak in there so that will keep him occupied today hopefully.

                  Hello all,
Back from our morning selling - did not go too bad, but it was a bit poorly attended, has been snowing all morning.

Had a lovely plate of fish and chips, with a glass of cider, now just settling down for a little snooze.

Wrap up warm everyone, and hope all poorly peeps feel better soon. ;)

Hi Moyra, thanks for the welcome:snork: I tend to wander from Forum to Forum trying to keep an eye on things, and perhaps I'm not on this Thread as often as I should be....I'll try to make up for it in the future.
Yes, all being well I intend to be in Shineyland on Shiney's Open Day. I enjoyed the last one so much and it was good to meet everyone and put faces to names and names to faces!!! :heehee:
