Oh mine get eaten too @shiney . Even the people in the allotments don't seem overly upset by them either.
Do you know what my solution is......don't have posh plants..or....research what they ( and deer in our case) don't like. I like to work with the environment I've chosen to live in, not against it. :dbgrtmb:
My garden is for our enjoyment and all are welcome......except Ground Elder!!

Must admit I don't grow veg anymore. We buy seasonal veg from the shops , that way we limit the disappointment of wildlife eating it. Much prefer the pleasure of seeing them in and around our garden :)

By the sound of it you at least know what not to bother with next year!:blue thumb: Those Lychnis are a definite no no.

That doesn't quite work for us. This is the environment that we chose to live in. The rabbits turned up 45 years later!

What really annoys me about them is that they don't actually eat the plants but just chop them down. They have, up to now, lost our charity (mentally handicapped children) at least £100 from just destroying the beans. We don't have posh plants! We have a garden full of plants that we have spent a lifetime building up from nothing and looking after. We've also built up an environment for wildlife and wild plants, provide plants (including Lychnis) especially for bees and have thousands of them, have dozens of birds nesting around the garden and provide food for them, have lots of squirrels that are happy to clean up what the birds drop, and even have crows (been here 14 years) that don't bother the other birds because we provide enough for them. We also have bat boxes, and areas for other lower forms of wildlife, a stinging nettle patch for butterflies, insect boxes.

We provide plants and foliage for a lot of charities, church festivals and lots of the locals for their family parties and weddings.

If the rabbits continue to destroy what we've built up we might just as well sell the garden and let the developers build half a dozen houses on it!

I like rabbits but can't accept them destroying what we've spent a lifetime building.

But,sadly, aren't we destroying theirs? That's why we have to provide bat boxes ( thankfully we don't as they are in our attic!), bug hotels ....etc to try and amend the damage we humans are causing and to ease our pangs of guilt.

I'm all for providing such wildlife havens , we certainly do our bit too, within our modern and often contrived gardens of today but purely because it fast becoming a necessity in order to save our wildlife from becoming extinct. I would much rather see them in their natural habitat but we are wiping that away from them and in order to survive they have to look and venture in to where they're not always wanted......our gardens.

                  Very civilised there Moyra :)

                  Good morning everyone :)

I am preoccupied this morning so neither beach nor garden. Dolphins around the coast yesterday. What better sight in the sun shimmering water?:) Not quite so graceful, Nico swam in the river last night to cool down:)

Have a good day everyone here :)

Aw!! You must take some pics of Nico for us @Verdun please.:doggieshmooze:

Well the hedge has been drastically reduced in size so hopefully we are off to visit an N T property today not sure which one yet but it will be a fairly local one.

Have a great time enjoying our fabulous weather.:)

                      Aloha everyone,

That's always the problem. What is their natural habitat? Rabbits are not native to the UK (brought here by the Normans, so I blame the French! :heehee:) but I'm quite happy for them to be around. They are becoming a problem to the farmers around here as well and it's simply because of their rapid breeding rate. They can have up to six litters per year. If humans bred at that rate we'd have standing room only! :rolleyespink:

Why can't they be happy with just eating grass and plants in my wild garden? I love seeing them bounding around on the lawn but flower beds and veg plot are out of bounds :paladin:

All the other wildlife in the garden are extremely happy with fitting in. We have seventeen (known) birds' nests and all the superb habitats we have made for wildlife. We even have two areas in the beds near our car port that we no longer dig up because of the families of voles that live there. They're not quite as nervous of us as they used to be and will now stop and watch us moving things around in the car port - the port is not used for cars but for a nursery area and for storing dried flowers for arranging.
