Oh dear. I've got a major problem with "Panama hats" After Hannibal put one on in the last scene of the film, having said that he was "going to have an old friend for dinner":lollol:

    Dear All above,

my apologies for not posting the photo when I said I would.

We've picked the last of the tomatoes off the plant. I cannot foresee us having any more this year bearing in mind I had to chop most of the branches off due to the leaves turning yellow some months ago.

In all honesty, our efforts haven't been very cost-effective (i.e. the amount of water and feeding over the time in comparison to the rewards we've picked). So a re-think in terms of what to grow is on the menu for next year. Oh well... c'est la vie.

Again, many thanks to one and all for your advice!

    Sincere regards,

    Just to add my twopenn'orth.

Epsom Salts, MgSO4 - call it what you will - is just a common or garden 'over the counter' remedy for heartburn, indigestion or upset stomach (sometimes also taken as a laxative or hangover 'cure'), and (in England) is variously sold under the proprietary brand of 'Andrews' or 'Andrews Liver Salts', or a much cheaper version can be obtained by looking in any supermarket for 'effervescent health salts'. Either way, it's all the same thing - it's just the stuff of which you put a couple of teaspoons into a glass of water, stir round and drink the fizzing result.

Hairy toms? Not unknown. In the past I have had one or two which could be said to fit this description - although it should be pointed out that the 'hairs' were minute - less than .5 of a mm.

I reckon that's half the fun, is working out what works for you and what doesn't. I wouldn't write toms off just yet though. You said yourself you don't have much experience in these matters, nor do I, but you could say you've had a good lesson this year, and you can apply what you've learnt next year, and probably have better luck.

From this thread, you've learnt about feeding, watering and insect control, perhaps all a little too late, but you know now, so next year you'll probably get a much better result:gnthb:
