Yorkshire pudding (yes I'm serious)

    Sarraceniac,

    That sounds interesting. So if I cook them off (they are the size of a small dinner plate) I could start with jam then put fresh whipped cream on top with fresh berries. Would a Yorkshire Pud be okay served cold like this?

    What do you think?

    Also, because they are a decent size could I pop some carved meat, some veg and gravy in them to create a meal or would it go soggy very quickley.

    Vegan myself so need advice from people who eat "proper food"!!!

    Sorry TO just spotted this thread is growing. I KNEW Yorkshire pudding was controversial.

    Cold ? YUK. [​IMG] But a hot pud with cold, jam, cream, fruit etc. No prob. [​IMG] Serve immediately cos when a Yorkshire pudding gets cold, it gets flat. And when it goes flat it is no fun. Actually a cold pancake isn't much fun either, and you are looking at much the same mixture.

    Filling them with meat, veg and gravy is absolutely no problem [​IMG] . Classic pub meal way of serving them. As long as it's hot, then soggy is fine. Cold and soggy is revolting. [​IMG]

    It was my husbands birthday a while ago and we went for a meal. He was reminising about his Mum's cooking, apparently she used to put jam in everything. Infact i know this is true because i've seen her do it - in a stir fry :eek: she also did something with Pork Chops and jam :confused:

    Anyway i digress, i asked the Chef to serve him up a yorkshire pudding (cold) with jam for desert. The look on hubbys face was a picture :D [​IMG]

    My last effort which I photo'd for LoL.

    Half a pint of milk
    2 eggs
    110 grams of plain flour

    No salt as I use this for the kids and it makes little difference to the taste IMO.

    Poured into nuclear hot oilve oil followed by some finest sausages. [​IMG]

    Onion gravy one hopes [​IMG] :D

    Make the gravy homemade, no shop stuff and add freshly chopped onions, takes a while but my boys are putty in my hands when i make it (she says preening) :rolleyes: ;)

    BM, I am not usually a great fan of Delia but she talks a lot of sense about gravy:

    Delia's gravy

    The wine is optional, I prefer to drink it as I am cooking. The onion can be cooked with the meat and then pulverised and just left in the gravy. That's the easiest way.

    My Mother-in-Law never measures the ingredients for Yorkies, not always a success though. She used to make way too many on a Sunday so hubbie and brothers had them with jam for tea after their bread and dripping. [​IMG] Then of course there are the season puds which is Yorkies with a teaspoon of mixed herbs, very stodgy and filling. As a Yorksuhire lass born and bred I can make puds to order so my son who likes stodgy puds and my daughter who like dry ones both get what they like from the same tray :D
