I always take spare toilet roll inner tubes on holiday, so that when I take cuttings, I can wrap them in tissue and store them safely in the suitcase.
I also used to take empty plastic tablet bottles so that I could put any seeds that 'accidently' fell into my hands in. And when I dream about potting and seedlings, and digging........................oh, what a lovely dream, and the weather is always warm and sunny.;)

Now I like that idea Scrungee, I gave up using toilet roll tubes because I could never find the slugs that hid amongst them. Spacing them a bit further apart might discourage slugs or at least make it easier to find the blighters.

Clear plastic pot trays make it so much easier to spot slugs & snails lurking underneath/amongst the pots, but they don't seem to last (UV stabilised?) more than a year before they fall to bits.

Just found this thread - cheering me up too - on a murky night, lashing with rain. But I do feel as though I'm among friends,
          thank you everyone,

It gets just sooooooo busy at this time of year, not only harvesting crops, but also continually searching for bargains, foraging from the hedgerows, pressing apples, making wine, jam, chutney, holidaying, fishing, etc. When my wife worked near a Wilkos, she'd check for reductions in there every lunchtime.

                  55. When the sickliest looking plant catches your eye across the GC and begs to be taken home and cared for. You spend the next 20 mins persuading the manager that you paying 20% of the ticket price is better than the poor thing staying there to die. The plant comes home with you !

                    56. You use scales accurate to within 0.1g to weigh a known number of seeds, then use that info to calculate how many of each variety you saved. I saved 1,818 sweet pea seeds so far this year and there's as much again on the plants.

                    57. You have a compulsive desire to save excessive amounts of seeds.

                      58. After buying super accurate scales and hundreds of small self-seal polythene bags for seed saving you wonder if the DS will come knocking on your door after being tipped off by Amazon.

                          59. You set up a spreadsheet to calculate how much money you've saved from all your seed saving efforts and are so pleased with the massive amount of money you've saved that you treat yourself to loads more bought seeds.
