I have tavor I sowed in winter but I transplanted them a while ago and all died, ive heard they dont like being grown indoors then transported due to a big taproot. I will try again direct seeding... not sure where though!

I bought a single plant from a GC and then pulled off side shoots, planted them in large longpots for a year before planting out in the garden. I have never tried growing them from seed, not worth the bother for me as I only wanted a couple of plants. A whole packet of seeds would have been wasted.

If I decide to go ahead I think I’ll be buying a couple of potted plants to plant out @Goldenlily26 :)

The mature leaves grow about 3ft in length so you will need to allow a good 6-7 ft diametre for each plant. Only weeds seem to grow under mine plants.

That's the best option @Dovefromabove. I have tried seeds and cuttings. The ones from seed were all different, some edible, some not. The cuttings from my original plants worked well. I don't grow them anymore, that was years ago, now I'm in France it's easy to buy them and they are better than the ones I grew in the UK.

          It is all your fault!
I began looking up globe artichoke varieties and ended up ordering a plant of Travour and Green Globe!

We have just had our first globe of the season. Had to share as only one was big enough so cut it to allow the others to develop. Had garlic (from the garden) in butter to dip the leaves in and then we divided the choke. Bliss. Looking forward to all the others developing so that we can have one each!

We too had a couple on Friday as the kids were going away and said they would not keep.... To be honest they already looked past their best, but they turned out to be the best we've have since coming back to the UK. We do have a couple of plants of our own, but these are simply not growing as they should and nowhere near as far on as the kids. We had a dip of olive oil, lemon and fresh herbs from the garden (bit thyme flowers). With fresh home baked bread, we just had to also have a glass of trebbiano to go with it all....

@Dovefromabove sorry too far away. Our best harvest 3 years ago was 29 globes! We have had to sow new ones this year so the number of globes will be limited.

                  Deep envy
Life has played another few tricks on us this year so new projects in the garden are on the back burner for now … it’ll have to be W’rose Finest again …

I found my newest artichoke plant chewed to a stump by slugs. I hadn't even got it into a pot! I have now potted it up and hopefully it will recover. It will be a year or two before it is big enough to have heads. Judicious pruning.
The ancient plant has been battered by the recent storm force wind but should produce a few heads for me to harvest. I should have staked it.
                  Home made garlic butter. Yummm!
