Your Day (apart from gardening) - what took place? 2023

Maybe they have to check them every few years to check they are not malfunctioning.

 

I think they do pete, as we can't recall ever having ours read but they came came and read it 3 weeks ago.

 

They come round and read mine every 6 months.
Mine is in the street.

 

I spoke to the bloke who I caught reading mine a few weeks ago and he told me he only had 6 to read in my street out of probably 40 houses.
Doesn't sound very efficient to me to read only some, instead of doing the whole street in one go.

 

Just ordered The Thursday Murder Club. First 3 books. Ive been told that they are a good read. 15 quid for the lot on Amazon. My Audible subscription is in danger of getting cancelled.

 

My friends and I went to see Barbie.. now ,now...no scoffing please by those who haven't seen it !!!

It was brilliantly funny and depicted Barbie Land as we have come to know it through all the accompanying franchises which will indeed keep the younger audience very entertained. Lots of innuendos that will probably go unnoticed by them but will keep the adults laughing.
Portrays a strong positivity to young girls that they can aim high and achieve and hold down jobs that were once offered mainly to men.
This is of course echoed by the range of dolls that have been a big part in many young girls lives, past and present ,especially these last few years with the addition of ' curvy' dolls, dolls in a range of skin tones and with differing facial features , dolls with disabilities. Dolls showing a range of achievable occupations that girls can aspire to.

This is a few years old now but hits the positives and negatives.

Just been to the opticians and learnt that I need a cataract removed, good news is waiting list is 2 - 3 month, so first one done by Christmas hopefully.

 

For lunch I've eaten fried Bread ,Toms & Egg along with a MilkyWay.
Too hot to garden, so I'll just look out the window

 

During the hottest part of the day (i.e. most of it) I started designing Christmas cards, because I'm going to make my own this year, and I don't want to rush near the date. I've got a few ideas so the next step is to decide which one to go with (probably the easiest )

 

Too hot today so we decided to do nothing, just sip cold drinks with frozen slices of lemon and kiwi. Ice cream arrangements with berries or coffee, books and board games. Perfect!

Now I have a new addition to my list of things not to do when it's above 27 degrees: Craft projects involving serious sawing and screwing.

We have a new hedgehog visiting us nightly. She enjoys cat treats (dried duck breast, (how posh is that?) but it was the smallest and cheapest pouch we saw. ) The feeding dish is hand painted porcelain saucer I made at a work do, only the best for our hedgehog

Anyways, I wanted to build a hedgehog house and dug out several bits of IKEA's Ivar solid pine shelving unit from the garage and set to work.

It has been perhaps two decades since I last held a saw in my hand but old muscle memory kicked in and I confidently grasped the saw from the less cutting end. So far, so good.

Sawing through thick solid pine shelves in this heat turned out to be a bit taxing, but I did manage it without collapsing.

Then the assembly. I discovered that we have no nails. On a positive side, we have a hammer. Some fairly decent size screws were found and I took out the drill to put in guiding holes (the wood is pretty thick) and found out that we have no drill bits.

Now, when it comes to divorces, mine was a very good one. However, now I believe that we perhaps should have paid a tad more attention to the detail in separating the goods. I hope the Ex Hubby enjoys the drill bits.

Anyways, tomorrow will see the glorious final touches to the Hedgehog House, like assembling the walls, covering the roof, cutting the floor to the size, realising that the safety tunnel doesn't fit the entrance hole and so on.

Can't wait

 

I've been all day drawing different pictures for my home made Christmas cards but got nowhere. I have several outlines but none of them feel right somehow.
Snowmen, churches, lanterns, post boxes ... I think I'll leave it for now and maybe tomorrow when I look at them again I'll know which one to choose.
Or I'll scrap them all and start again

Ta-dah, feast your eyes! The cut corners of the IKEA shelves forced some improvised assembly utilising the battens that came with our cooker packaging. Ah well, Scottish National Trust advises me that airing holes are essential for Hedgehog wellbeing during the hibernation. And the safety tunnel is supposed to be at an angle.

The tunnel still needs to be attached so that cats can't paw it off, but then it's just the small task of clearing the tatty corner to fit the house in.
