Let me guess....your case came up and @pete persuaded the rest of the jury to let you off? :roflol:

Oh, jury service? So that's what the mystery was all about... what a let down! ;)

I was so sure that @pete was auditioning for a reality show and I was nearly tempted to buy a telly in order to cheer for him.

Wouldn't that make a great sticky thread, watching @pete competing challenges on an exotic island (no secateurs allowed) or mingling with lightly garmented youths in " Chelsea Flower Show- Get Me Out Of Here" or similar?

Look, keep it under your hat, Selleri, but all that reality show stuff wouldn't be compatible with his day job as an undercover agent for MI5

Having a long weekend in Lincoln as it's my daughters 19th birthday. Mum has went with her to get their nails done, then maybe a small tattoo. Me, down at the waterfront having a pint, at £2.03 a pint I might just squeeze in another :blue thumb: image.jpg

A good effort - you could even say a Sterling effort:

Due to the incredible generosity of the UK public, our Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal has so far raised a staggering £88 million.

Aid is getting through and essential items are reaching those affected.

My new microwave arrived. It has oven and grill functions, and a manual to make good nightime reading for years. :yikes:

Apparently it is lethal to use metal objects while using the microwave function (I knew that), so the metal grill rack should be removed. Care must be taken when using combi- functions to select suitable containers, the oven function must not be used with plastic, microwave safe items that are recommended for the microwave only- function. This clever thing can first defrost, then microwave and finish it off under the grill by a mere flick of carefully orchestrated sequence of button presses and gentle turns of the knob.

Thankfully it will not talk with my phone behind my back or leak information about my chicken casserole (20 minutes from egg to table, apparently) to hostile nations or Bazzy across the road.

I think we'll live on cold sandwiches for a while. :help:

I've got one of those microwaves @Selleri ,must admit apart from the odd baked potato I can't get my head around the combination part.
Mine has an enamelled metal circular tray that fits over the glass turn table for non microwave cooking.
I find being that the oven is small it uses less energy and I rarely have to use my gas oven.
I think they are great if you can use them to their full potential.

We are getting into speaking terms with The Microwave. The child, after a brief 5 mins read of the manual, managed to defrost some ragu to go with our pasta. Now we are casually saying "hey, why not throw some D2 on the ragu" looking immensely proud  (For the record, D1 is defrosting by weight and D2 is defrosting by time.)

An unexpected function is the 30 seconds "are you sure"? setting. Whatever you initially confidently select, after 30 seconds The Thing beeps and asks if I'm absolutely sure my selection was 100% correct, and if not, all is not lost as I can apparently change my mind.

That's borderline insulting and is causing some anxiety as I'm not really a person who can confidently confirm that the decision I made 30 seconds ago was indeed the best in my judgement.

                            Learning! :)

By the way, why is it dangerous to use metal items in a microwave oven that has stainless steel interior?

I was under the impression that metal caused sparks and can damage the part that generates the micro waves, but when I use certain combinations of MW and convection mine says its ok to use the enamelled metal tray and I think you can also use the metal grill thing, I'm guessing on these settings the MW part is fairly low.
