I was referred for cataract surgery last November by my optician as both eyes need doing. I was given an appointment at my local hospital (NHS) in a matter of weeks. At my pre-assessment the consultant told me all the backlog of cataract surgery has been dealt with and there was no longer a waiting list... I could have surgery at my earliest convenience. Oh good, thought I.
But then at the end of all the tests, it was discovered my BP was very high and needed to see my GP as a matter of urgency... that's another story in itself and am now on a shedload of medication as heart issues have surfaced too! I was not aware of these conditions at all and it was purely by chance when I went to the hospital for one thing and have ended up having to cope with other problems. No, I haven't proceeded with cataract surgery and have rather gone off the whole idea now!
@On the Levels, that's a rotten thing to happen. I hope you'll be ok very soon.

@On the Levels, oh no! Nightmare! I hope your wounds heal quickly and being on the antibiotics isn't too energy sapping.

That all sounds a bit unfair and a bit scary @On the Levels . Hope it heals OK.

@pattie Not the best way to find you have problems but at least they're being treated now. Hope you improve soon and can get your cataracts done after all. It's made a huge difference to people I know who've had it done.

This happened to me @pattie. I was on the operating table when they said sorry your Heart Rate & BP are sky high, so we can't do your Cataract op as there is a high chance of a Stroke.
I saw my GP after, had all the tests & everything was normal.
Directly I step through a hospital door it all goes up. White Coat Syndrome.
              Good luck pattie.

My OH has white coat syndrome. I went with him to the hospital for his cataract operation. They kept taking his BP and it was always high. It's normal when he takes it at home. I explained to the nurse and I asked if he could have some Diazepam. I used to be a nurse. She went and asked the Doctor and came back with some which she gave OH. He fell asleep and she took his BP which was normal! They did his op. By then it was the end of the afternoon and it should have been done in the morning!

Good luck, @pattie. OH is pleased with his.

Yet again another visit to the surgery to have dressings changed after being bitten 3 times by a farm dog. All this stops me from going out into the garden and planting out veg.
So staying indoors and reading a book about Kohima where my father fought. Terrible war and known as the Forgotten War.

Well, I'm absolutely useless at selling anything, but I've just sold some horse stuff for £25 which I paid £30 for 24 years ago! It will go towards my new trees whenever that happens.

Just found this thread. Now I'm a bit confused as I thought everyone posted what they've been doing on the Wakey Wakey thread :dunno:

No, just seen I've already posted here, had already found it. Still finding my feet here after 3 weeks.

How lucky you were to have discovered a heart problem without the trauma of something bad happening. I understand it's quite normal to go to hospital for one thing, only to discover another problem. Similar happened to me, was taken to hospital with pain from a kidney stone only to discover I needed to have a new aortic valve. Probably the valve problem was genetic, and all these years I thought I was unfit because I could never keep up with anyone when they were walking. Now I can put my best foot forward like everyone else. I count myself lucky.

                              Wow, yesterday's eclipse was awesome.

We had an eclipse party at my home yesterday and it seemed touch and go as to whether we were going to get to witness anything but gloominess because Mother Nature kept tossing thick cloud cover our way.

But at 3:05, the clouds parted and we all donned our eclipse glasses and perched on benches in the back garden to witness the totality happen at 3:18. Sure enough, the sun glided over the last bit of sun and it was the most eerie daytime experience I've ever had.

We took off our glasses for a minute or so and looked around. It was like sitting out on a moonlit night. A blue toned light. All of my solar lights came on and the birds went silent. Everything was still. A "graveyard at midnight" feeling.

It only lasted a short time and we donned our glasses again to watch the moon reveal a larger and larger crescent it made it's journey across the sky.

Unbelievable. I now know why in ancient times, people thought the "gods" or "powers" were giving them some message as it certainly was a profound experience.

My granddaughter will be sending me the pics she took while here and at least one of them is worthy of sharing so I shall do that later.

                              Cheers!

Bet that was fantastic @CanadianLori, thanks for your info.

Saw an Eclipse when I was in Saudi for a few years (around 1998 I think), the Mutawas forbid people to be out in the open, they were told to stay indoors and pray while the eclipse was taking place, to view it was haram. Shops and garages were all shut up. A few of us Westerners were outside (risking eternal damnation no doubt) viewing it. It was the most earie feeling, not a sound from anything, birds, dogs (obviously cars). I imagine that's how the end of the world would feel. Not hard to imagine how terrified our ancestors must have been.

Would love to be in a plane, above the clouds, to see an eclipse.
