Although I live fairly close to the River Cart because of the way it meanders everywhere, I've not seen it round here as such @Hanglow, but I'm not always walking near any large areas. I used to work near one section of the river [ riding school and next to farmland etc ]but I can't remember seeing it then. It was a long time ago though!
We've had an infestation of skunk cabbage though - appeared 2 or 3 years ago. I can see that being a problem in future too. Not sure where it came from, but I live near a small NT garden, and there's a burn runs from the back of that through a field and under the road. It originates from one of the many sources further away towards the moors, and crosses lots of different areas until it basically reaches the Clyde. It's present in the edges of the burn, but I can't see far enough along it to tell where it starts, but I wondered if it had escaped from the NT garden itself.

Did a wash load, put it out and got it dry! Made a small madeira cake as a birthday cake for my daughter. Swept through downstairs, ceramic tiles throughout, no carpet to absorb the grit and sand. The previous owner of the cottage was the owner of a mad springer spaniel and thought tiles were a better surface than carpeting.
No car. Had a phone call saying they are having problems with it. After fitting whatever was needed it couldn't drive in reverse, had to strip it down and refit. Then something was wrong with the wiring re the warning light or something. If it is not sorted today they are giving me a courtesy car until it is sorted. A bit late, could have done with it two weeks ago when it broke in the first place.

Made the filling for the cake, got another load of washing dry. Walked the dog and watched tennis until the courtesy car was delivered. "If" I owned it I would call it the Bug. But I have wheels.
Where I live is too dangerous to walk along the roads as they are narrow B roads with lots of blind bends and no pavements. The local drivers drive around at above the 40mph limit which makes it perilous for walkers.
Eerily quiet without the raging gale.

Hello @Goldenlily26. You probably know that some of us from the old GW forum are posting on Yawn Yawn Wakey Wakey 2024

This thread has a better title for everyday doings but they have gone to Wakey Wakey. I'm afraid I don't always find it easy to find, I look on my Alerts.

I came back round the one way in Paisley yesterday @Hanglow, and the giant hogweed was already going strong, and spreading right up near the bridge, beside the road itself. I would have gone into the s'market car park that's just beyond that and gone back to get a pic, but the traffic was heavy and there's lanes closed for all sorts of roadworks so it was very slow progress - worse than usual! I'll be prepared next time though and see if I can get a pic.
I'd been up at Crianlarich for a hill, and a welcome break from the garden [:heehee:] so I'll do some pix in the hobbies section once I get around to sorting them.

Yes, I recognise quite a few names from the big shut down. Such a pity. I also check my alerts, easier than trawling through all of the threads, I found myself reading posts from the year dot so gave up on that. I am slowly getting used to the new home.
          Change is soooo stressful!

The Microsoft hiccup today has meant that my Ocado delivery has had to be done very very slowly without computers.

I got a phone call from the driver at about three pm to say that he’d be delayed. When I asked how much by, did he think, he would be delayed, he replied that we would see him between 9.30 and 10 pm.

I hope we are still awake, we usually go to bed at 9.30. :snooze:

It wasn't Microsoft @Tidemark but CrowdStrike.

The biggest problem is that CrowdStrike is so high in the hierarchy, ordinary user accounts despite being administrator don't have the permissions to delete that file in question.
When you install any operating system, the installer creates a System Administrator (a superuser) and that account is being locked once the installation has finished.
When you are asked to enter your profile name at the end of a system installation, your account type is an administrator. But you are just an account.
There have been many "I do good" programs in the past and present that were programmed to unlock that System Administrator. The worst ones don't even allow to reinstall the system.
That superuser permission has got CrowdStrike, because it has to act in all corners of the system. It's like you call the police because you heard strange noises in the house and you give them the permissions to look into all corners of your house.

I did another couple of hours of weeding the patio, in the shade, too hot to walk the dog. Took him to the vet., now waiting for blood test results. £200.00 plus fee.
Sat and had a chat with my new Henry vacuum cleaner. I needed to work out how how to keep his head on. Eventually sussed it.
Called in to give my daughter the last part of her birthday present, a bag of sharp grit to go with the hostas. It was in the back of my car which has been in for repairs for a week. 2nd mortgage needed to cover the cost for a new gear box.
Was going to buy fish and chips on the way but home but decided to do something I have never done before. I bought a Chinese Take Away! Really enjoyed it, enough for me to have another 3 meals from it so didn't work out as expensive as it might have done.
It is pouring with rain so no beach walk today.

A long one but I need to open my heart!

Today I bought a sliver of a small island in the Northern Seas. :)

In other words, my house purchase was completed and we collected the keys.

OK, in true Selleri style the day would make a great Harold Lloyd film in fast motion... :heehee:

Got up at six, downed various cups of coffee and prepared to dash out as soon as the all important call from my solicitors came. Applied mascara to make the day special. Ate a slice of Gouda.

Sat by the dining table, drumming fingers. At 10.05 The Call came. Called the estate agents who advised they had the keys and were just waiting for a call from the seller's solicitor to confirm they have the funds, it shouldn't take long...

Since the office is deep deep in the wilderness on the Wrong Side Of The River and I don't drive, I had tasked The Baby to plan the trip. 50 mins by metro and 20 mins walk, that's fine. Off we went, me checking my phone all the time and us reassuringly planning for activities in Sunderland in case the final call didn't come until late. (There's a Pets At Home but we agreed not to get a Gerbil, regardless how stressful the situation might turn into. Gerbils have an evil strike in them. The dwarf ones in particular. )

Just when we stepped out of the metro train The Final Call came, and we rushed towards the office filled with joy :hapydancsmil:

In the office it turned out that I had sent The Baby the address of my solicitors instead of the estate agents. We were 20 minutes drive away from the keys, and not driving. I shan't share any details but after we had eaten a small snack the shouting died down a bit and we managed to call a taxi.

We got the keys and a framed colour print showing the dates of the purchase journey with my name misspelt, headed to a pub and started to find out how to get from Houghton Le Spring to Newcastle. Or any place other than H.L.S.

It turned out that postcodes in H.L.S are mainly for decorative purposes and the local taxi companies employ summer staff who are not focused on communication skills.

Me: "Hi, can I have a taxi from DH4 xxx, Wheatsheaf pub please?"
Taxi company: "This comes up as Springfield Elementary, is that correct?"
Me: "No, we are at the Wheatsheaf pub."
Taxi company: " OK, so it's Princess road"
                  Me: "No, it's not"

.... fast forward some more Harold Lloyd stuff, with The Baby taking over the call trying to convince the call handler that we want to go to Heworth Metro station, not from it and so on...

Finally we arrived home, resisting the urge to kiss the soil and whacked a frozen pizza (bought specifically for this occasion) into the oven and said "SQUAAGGHHHH" for an hour.

And then to the new house... it is wonderful, a bit of a labour camp but my own home.

                  I'm a very happy bunny. :)

And we have learnt that whilst I might not be very gifted in giving correct address, The Baby is very skilled in finding the most efficient way to reach the wrong place.

Mushroom hunting on the bike today, 1000005173.jpg 1000005168.jpg about 30km covered at a fairly relaxed pace. Need to get more compost for starting seeds now, last lot of miracle grow was utterly appalling.

It is always good to get things off your chest
                        .
House moving can be extremely stressful. I remember the first day I moved into my current sanctuary, as I walked through the rooms it felt as if a huge weight had dropped from my shoulders and I could at last breathe.
I hope you will be very happy in your new abode.
