Went to an art exhibition this morning in the sunshine! Amazing work by 3 ladies.
One does mosaics on endangered species. Such detailed work and covers all sorts around the world. Donations from her sales go to again worldwide conservation groups.
One does paintings on real feathers. Beautifully done.
And last but not least the third lady does print work all based on natural landscapes and wildlife.
So glad we went and that we had a day without rain.

I haven’t turned on the tv for about four or five years and the last BBC programme that I watched on iplayer was Ghosts, which ended last Christmas.

But I saw an advert for a short serial called Ludwig, which begins on BBC1 tonight at 9pm.

It is available on iplayer and, in my opinion, it is wonderful. Funny, clever, thoughtful.

Checked the National Trust website for some information and thought, let's check what the shop has to offer. Found this on the page for Garden Decor. I wonder who would buy a copper planter for that amount of money.

Got the recycling bins ready as well as the rubbish bin yesterday. Our rubbish is collected every 3 weeks and we put out one black bag that is only half full. What amazes us is the number of bins plus black bags on top of them (yes I know you are not supposed to do that) that some households put out. We can now recycle most plastics, small electrical items, paper, cardboard, bottles, cans, batteries and foil. We collect the thin plastic from things like the top of yoghurt pots and each week they are taken to the local supermarket for recycling. We have also found that one of the air ambulance groups will take empty blister packs from medicines (no idea what they do with them). Any good clothing either goes to charity shops or into one of the clothing banks. Empty egg boxes are taken to the food bank who need them as they have eggs in large trays. Use stamps (not so many these days) go to charity shops.
I know that I am going on somewhat but I do find it strange that so many people have huge amounts of rubbish taken away to landfill.

It was black bin day today, that's the one that gets burnt in the incinerator, my bin is mostly only a quarter full.
I agree @On the Levels , some new people, just the two of them and one child, have moved in over the road from me, they have obviously asked for a second bin as they put out two bins and a black sack this morning, what the hell are they buying each week that comes up with that amount of non recyclable stuff:scratch:

I don't understand huge waste bins and piles of bags either.

We were given wheelie bins based on household size when we moved here. The black bin - non recyclables - is small and can be emptied free 6 times in one year. More than that we pay extra.

The yellow bin - recycling - is emptied free every two weeks. I do refuse to put things like onion nets and flimsy plastic in there because I'm not convinced it is all recycled and don't want it ending up in the ocean. Bottles, cardboard, paper and big stuff, including garden waste, have to be taken to the container park. I'm collecting empty wine bottles to make a wall and we have a lot of compost heaps.

We take any usable clothes, furniture, household items to a council run equivalent of an Oxfam shop and I sometimes buy bits there to upcycle. Really don't like modern furniture.

May be that the child is still in nappy's when they get to infant school so lots of nappy's in the bags (someone did put a post that said children are in nappy's when they start school)

IMG_1047.png When we moved here two years ago, we made an attempt to reach the "bare bit" of ancient woodland that we can see from the side window of our living room. We gave up as it was so steep and we didn't know how much farther there was to go. Anyway, today I made it to the top, hubby had to give up but I plodded on with the blood pumping in my ears. The view is incredible and the photos just do not do it justice at all Bare bit, view from (1).JPG Bare bit, view from (2).JPG Bare bit, view from (3).JPG edited to add:I didn’t realise I was so close to a hill fort

Wish we had done something similar @Bluejayway. This morning we spent over 3 hours cleaning the inside of the conservatory. Well you say....why so long, why was it so dirty and when did you clean it before? All good questions but what took us so long was getting into the nooks and crannies that using a cloth wouldn't work. Used an old tooth brush which was OK for some of those fiddly sections. Then used a pair of long handled tongs with a cloth at the end to get down into the top sections. We have so many plants here even though we said we wouldn't, that it meant we had to keep moving plants and furniture to allow us access.
Do designers of conservatories ever actually clean one? Why do they make them so fiddly?

Cycle up by Loch Lomond, I've had a nasty cough and my lung capacity is not good so took it easy but found a nice crop of hedgehog mushrooms to pick. IMG_20241015_120309.jpg

I'm living along the Ridgeway "Castles" (hill forts) and find it always refreshing to have a walk up to them @Bluejayway If you do that regularly as exercise, you get the body trained. Important is that you start walking first on flat land to get the body warmed up.
