It's just a matter of semantics :heehee:. What we mean when saying we're going on holiday is that we are taking a break away from home where we have a 52 week a year vacation from work. :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

I've been dividing sacks of coal (our Xmas/New Year treat bought multi-save + 20% off voucher) into daily rations to prevent excessive use of it.

That's the black stuff, isn't it? :heehee: I always loved the smell of it. :blue thumb:

We haven't used it since we revamped our lounge and had a new fireplace. The old back boiler fire was taken away, the chimney swept, and an electric fan assisted coal effect fire put in its place  (shamefaced).

Actually, we did use coal in January when we were freezing in the Himalayas at Ghum (Darjeeling).

That requires expensive energy, our stove is fueled by free pallets, Dog sticks and Tesco [1]magazines after the coupons have been cut out.

[1] Remembered that yesterday I spent a while going in and out of a few Tescos (whilst out getting the 90 to 100% off bargains) collecting enough of the free sweets they were giving out to wrap in coloured cellophane and give to Mrs Scrungee for Xmas.

Not if you don't use it! :heehee:

It's there because we were putting in a new fireplace and the old back boiler had to come out (didn't fit modern regulations - or the new fireplace, and didn't work anyway). We have gas central heating (very cosy) and the fire is only a back-up if the boiler breaks down. We got a special deal on the new fireplace. It's reconstituted marble (not carved out of blocks :noidea:), and including the electric fire and fitting it came to £395. :dbgrtmb:

Although I was in the garden I didn't do any gardening. Instead, I cut Mrs Shiney's hair. :dbgrtmb:

Went for our usuall walk this moning (6am), farmer george was out feeding his bullocks with his tractor, we could see him coming down the road along away away because he had all lights on, then he stoped and turned around and drove down the road backwards :noidea::noidea::noidea::noidea::dunno::dunno::dunno::dunno::wallbanging: i know there's some strange folk around here, but

IMG_0493.JPG IMG_0494.JPG No gardening for us today as it is far too frosty and cold and I am still recovering with this knee problem so after lunch I suggested we pop over to the garden centre as I had read on their website that they had got a sale on and it would give me a break from being in the house for another day.

Anyway,we had a look round but didn't see anything that we needed in the xmas decoration dept so we carried on walking round until i suddenly spotted an item we had considered buying as a replacement for Mr Kandys old strimmer that packed up in the summer and we can't get any replacements for as they no longer do that make any more because evidently they were prone to breaking down so no garden centres or lawn mower centres stock them now:frown:

As we were looking round the stand we saw that they had got a sign up saying there was a 30% sale on certain items although the strimmer we wanted had no sticker on it.Anywayi suggested to Mr Kandy that he asked a sales assistant if that one was in the sale so she took a scan of the bar code and went off to the till to see if it was indeed in the sale.:fingers crossed:

After a couple of minutes the lady came back and said yes that strimmer was in the sale from £199 down to £139.30 a saving of £59.70:yes:

I quickly got out the gift card valued at £100 that Mr Kandy was given as part of his retirement prezzies so all in all we got the petrol strimmer for the grand sum total of £39.30.:hapydancsmil::yahoo:

As it was a sunny afternoon we went for a walk around Arne RSPB reserve. The car park usually has 20 to 30 cars at the weekend, today there were around 150 with probably two or more people in each, the new visitor centre and cafe and promotion on Autumn watch has made this normally quiet place so popular it is not as pleasant to walk around as before but I suppose the mass increase in cafe, shop and car park revenue is what it is all about.
It is also hosting Winter Watch as well!!
