Voters in the USA may be equally incredulous as to why, after David Cameron & George Osborne turned a recession in the UK into a 'booming economy' the UK electorate then voted against their advice to risk everything and turn their backs on one of the World's biggest free trade areas, and by an even bigger percentage of the popular vote.

Hmm. Obama didn't fail as such, he was prevented from accomplishing his goals by a bloody minded political set up. I've seen nothing that shows Trump is 'for the people ' so not convinced at all that the American public will get their hearts desire.

To be honest, Scrungee, Politicians might take the credit for a growing economy but they aren't the reason for it. George was not a good Chancellor as he made several huge mistakes and had to publicly do a quick U turn. Cameron bailed out because he disagreed with the Referendum result and wasn't a good enough Prime Minister to lead the Country out of the mess he has caused, while a Lady who had disagreed with the result took over and is doing a better job than he could have done.:dunno:
Free trade area? Not really, we have paid a yearly contribution to the EU, for the privilege of being in the EU, of £19 Billion, while also playing King Canute trying to resist the move to Federalisation where we'd have lost our national identity and not even been an accepted major player. The vote was 48% stay in and 52% get out.....which ever way you look at.

We have two roads with the same name here. The road we're on is a couple of miles long and the one of the same name is only a little bit shorter. They're only a few hundred yards from each other :noidea:. Not usually a problem as neither of them have a name plate :snork:.

The only time it causes problems is if someone puts the name of the road into their satnav. The satnav always manages to pick the wrong one. :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Decided to gut out the outhouse today, as it had become something of a dumping ground, and an old bookcase that we were using as shelves were looking really sorry for themselves and starting to fall apart. Once I got the bookcase out (totally knackered, so its fire wood now), I found that mice had been making themselves at home underneath it, so I then went on to thoroughly scrub absolutely everything, vacuum and shampoo the carpet (scrubbing it with a scrubbing brush before going over it with the machine). Then, I put in two sets of five plastic (Keter) shelves and decided that it was the ideal time to sort out some of our storage, mostly for some of our bulk buy stuff from Costco; the shelves proved to be a fantastic buy - we now have all of our tins, bottles, cleaning products, demi-johns of wine, loo roll and kitchen roll all stored on them, leaving more space in the kitchen cupboards.

Sadly, during the clean up, our Dyson blew its lid and required some emergency surgery to get the job done. I could fix it, but it is ten years old now and the parts needed are in the region of £100+, so I popped on over to AO.com and ordered a nice new one - being delivered tomorrow. Pretty impressive given that is was 6pm when I placed the order.

Now, I am going to chill out with a nice whisky or four....

Was ill all day. I think I'm allergic to beetroot.

There were a couple of times, like when I got chest pains and my arms went numb and I got all wobbly and confused, that wife nearly phoned for advice. I told her that if she tells them I've gone dizzy and have chest pains they'll have an ambulance round before she even gets off the phone.

At one point, I got the weirdest craving. I asked one of my kids to pass the salt, which they did, and I ate some neat. Now I'm on the mend, I realise that beetroot is loaded with potassium, which lowers blood pressure. Sodium of course sends it the other way.

Apart from feeling drained, I'm much better now. Nice simple food in the form of a plain jacket spud with probably too much salt on it, seems to have helped. It's combated the nausea enough that I've since managed to eat a big dollop of my favourite healthy dessert. Live natural yogurt mixed with Scots porridge oats and some honey drizzled over it.

So that's been my day. Suffering what seems to be a mild poisoning or allergic reaction, then steps to try to fix the symptoms.

"Beetroot is a good source of iron and folate (naturally occurring folic acid). It also contains nitrates, betaine, magnesium and other antioxidants (notably betacyanin). More recent health claims suggest beetroot can help lower blood pressure, boost exercise performance and prevent dementia.26 Aug 2015"

Beet allergyis a condition that can occur if your body rejects the proteins contained in the beetroot. Incidents of allergic reactions to the beet are extremely rare in humans and is believed to be more common in domesticated animals. However, it is best to check out the facts for yourself and take proper precautions if required.
he beet pulp gets converted to fatty acids by the action of certain beneficial bacteria. Our body may fail to identify the bacteria properly in some cases and consider it to be a harmful allergen. The body develops specific antibodies to deal with it which get manifested by a number of undesirable symptoms
                            Beet Allergy Symptoms

                            • Common cold like symptoms which include a runny nose, sore throat and watering of the eyes.
                            • Breathing problems that may cause wheezing.
                            • Vomiting and diarrhea
                            • Dark circles under the eyes and loss of hair.
                            Treating Beetroot Allergy

                            • The ideal way to avoid beetroot allergy altogether is to refrain from using beet pulp in your food.
                            • Antihistamine drugs that can be bought over the counter can also be utilized to get rid of the common cold like symptoms.
                            • Skin creams and lotions help in eliminating skin disorders.
It would be wise to read the food labels carefully especially if you intend to consume mixed vegetable or sweetened products. Beetroot pulp is also used to impart a reddish color so beware of canned soups and relishes if you have been diagnosed with beet allergy."

I woke up this morning convinced I'd developed a cold. I had sore throat, ear ache, and snot.

The idea that I've developed a cold seems unlikely, because the cold like symptoms passed by mid afternoon. I know some colds are fast, but I've never known one pass within a few hours.

Throughout today, apart from the hair loss and the dark patches under the eyes, I can tick all the other boxes.

Basically, I'm now fairly sure I've suffered an allergic reaction.

I now feel mostly fine but physically drained. I've felt like this once before. It was after I had a similar day after a blackthorn went through my foot. I went to the gp after that. He took bloods. When he discussed the results he said my blood was full of all the byproducts of a massive immune response. He said either I'd just fought a massive infection or I'd had an allergic reaction to something.

The voters will be the cause of the next Presidency.

                                Maybe ... except ...

... the vote you are referring to wasn't at all about Cameron/Osborne, or even their political party, but something just a tad bigger (and more fundamental) and, I think, even the citizens of the USA *got* that? :dunno:
In fact, I would go as far as to say the citizens of the US *got* that even more than some (possibly even as high as ... 48% ...?) of UK citizens. So: go ask any US citizen: would you like to be governed by/controlled by/compromised with/beholden to:
                                a) fellow American citizens
                                or
                                b) 27 other nations :)

                                :think2:

I'll go out on a limb here and guess that there may be an overwhelming majority vote on ...

                                .... a)? :dunno:

Trump's call of: "Make the US Great again" was adopted, and capitalised on, by Brexiteers

Maybe ... just maybe ... there was an element of the Brexit result which gave some US voters the impetus to vote Trump? :dunno: The fact that there was a tide turning; which may be of some significance? Whether it will be a good, or otherwise, outcome is yet to be played out. History will make of it what it will ... with hindsight.

There is a tide turning for sure; the trick now is ... for those undercurrents to *not* turn into a political, or indeed Global, equivalent of a tsunami. With European General Elections coming up ... keep your fingers crossed! ;)
