My deepest of sympathies @Linz :grphg: Still very early days for you and, clearly, still a tad raw. But, she hasn't, ever, *gone* ... she is still there: in your thoughts, in your memories, in your heart ... and, in many ways, in the things she taught you. Hold on to those; they are precious. The end days of January brought the anniversary of my mother ... I was shocked when I worked out just how long ago it is now - for me, I still miss her every single day! - time doesn't "heal"; time makes it just a little more bearable, slowly but surely.
Go shopping! Do it your Nan's way ;) She'll be chuckling her socks off (and oh so proud :heehee: ).
    :grphg:

Thanks @"M" :grphg: means a lot. It is really raw, I haven't been down to see my grandfather as much as I should have.. he's not in the best of health having had 3 strokes and I just feel so guilty. I find it difficult to look at her empty chair, I've sat in it a few times to try and "get over it". The things she had knitted for my children when they were babies have been put aside in one of the wardrobes as I can't bare to part with them. She was and is dearly loved. The memories will live on I suppose, she did teach me how to make a mean corned beef pie and stew

        DO NOT WEEP

        Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
        Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there, I did not die.

My sister gave that poem, Jack, when I was in the deepest pit But the poem I really treasure on my lounge wall is the one my Wife wrote after the 1st West Indies Test. She was a real sports enthusiast, knowing all the rules of the games including Americam Football [which I've never got my head around..

          "The Sky was Blue,
          the grass was green,
the teams were up and steady,
          the teams walked out,
          the crowd did shout,
for the First Test they were ready.

Ather's and Steward were at the crease,
          On bated breath they waited,
          for the first ball up,
Would Ather's go for a duck?,
No, it was a missile well defended.

From thereon in, the nightmare began,
the ball swung high and low,
but not toward sky on ground but
on Batsmen's body's shoulders, arms, hands and fingers.

          The Bowlers talked,
          the Batsmen talked,
          the Umpires they did too,
and then to the Match Referee,
they went to say the Match was through.

          Seventeen runs for 3 Wickets,
in just 58 minutes, a Test abandoned,
          the first in History,
          a shameful plight,
          a shameful sight,
          in cricketing history.
          "
She loved Cricket with a passion and the memory of that Test Match stirred her into words that my daughters and I have framed on the wall and gives us memories.

            Do not weep
Gave me solace on my mothers passing
            It really worked
As did another that I can not recall, "I am just in another room"

It worked for me and I hope others

I've just had a go at baking some fruit scones - first ever attempt :yikes:- from scratch - what do you think?

Imagine - sitting outside in the garden with a glass of chilled home made wine and a home made scone with jam/clotted cream :dbgrtmb:

(I've also added a piccy of my new idea using an obelisk and hanging baskets - portable and ideal for the smaller garden:spinning:

The last two lines of a poem by Christina Rossetti.
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

I have these two lines on my late wife's (Jen) headstone who passed away in 2004.

I met a lovely lady (Maureen) at Easter 2006, I wasn't looking for love, it just happened, sadly she was diagnosed with Cancer in September of that year and being a nurse looked and nursed her until her last breath in 2010.

I'm still sad and miss both ladies so much, never far from my thoughts and say good night to them before getting into bed.

Nice scones @clanless . Made about 18 blueberry pancakes this morning. Eleven left for the rest of the week for skinny husband to eat. Watch him say, "what's for breakfast" tomorrow. I hate wasting food. Put it on a plate , put it in the microwave, and put it in your mouth.

Raining here, will be doing some housework. and filing for taxes soon that has to be organized. Off to the gym later to burn calories.

We're having some electrical work done tomorrow, so I have had to clear some of the garage so sparky can get to electrics properly. Whilst I was in there I have set my router table up to do the roundovers on the slats I have cut for new greenhouse staging. Work will start in earnest next weekend.

Watching rugby whilst cooking dinner. Roast ham , mash, carrots, sprouts an broccoli. We're now in the debate of can you have gravy with mash. I'm out voted 3-1, but I'm still having gravy.

I'm pretty sure it's a criminal offence to serve mash without gravy. If memory serves me right, it's covered under the ancient act of parliament that has never been repealed, the Meat Sauce and Crushed Root Vegetables Act of 1799. Which states quite clearly in clause 3.2

'Any person whosoever serves or conspires to serve to another person or persons root vegetables that have been boiled, roasted or otherwise cooked and subsequently mashed or crushed, without simultaneously serving or conspiring to neglect to simultaneously serve a meat juice based sauce will be committing an offence'.
