If the Van is yours, Liz, and not on contract hire, I would give your business to the nearest local Garage rather than give the VW Dealer an opportunity to over charge you and give you a very poor service. The main dealer will charge you for jobs by the Manual hours it says it takes to do while, in fact, the job(s) took a lot less hours to do...but they'll still charge you the hours it says in the Car brand manual.
My local, half a mile away, Garage has looked after my cars when I was working and using them for business and doing high mileage, for around 35 years after a bad experience with servicing from a main dealer. I got, and still do, get my car serviced, MOT'd, and work and/or new tires needed done by them in the same day and I get charged for the hours and materials used and needed. The local Garages exist on "word of mouth" and so you can be pretty certain that they will give your car a good service etc and whatever it needs while you also get to know the people there which gives you that more personal touch.

My Garage is legendary with my neighbours due to the difficulty I sometimes have closing it because it gets so full of the things that I keep "because it might come in useful later". It's never had a car in there as I found that even when I had a Mini I couldn't get out of the car due to the Garage interior being so narrow:wallbanging::gaah:
But I've been trying to get myself to start emptying it of things I have had in there for many Moons but never used so today I started cleaning/clearing it out. I ended up taking 7 sacks of plant pots, plant trays, and then old fertiliser, broken gardening tools, rusty bolts, nails, furniture, electrical, plumbing fittings, old fishing rods, light fittings, chemicals, car parts, in another 5 sacks, and many more things that I shouldn't really have thrown away today as I might "need* them:dunno::heehee:
The Recycling Centre, (the name is wrong now as they aren't recycling anything due to the COVID 19), is less than half a mile from me and there was a queue of 5 cars in front of me waiting to be allocated a parking spot when vacated by a person dumping their stuff. I had to wait for less than 5 minutes before I could start dropping the sacks into the container and then go back Home to get the other sacks. While I can now get inside to the rear of the Garage, and I can close the Garage door more easily, there's still another 4 sacks and 3 bags to go to the Dump, and the Garage seems to look just as full.:dunno::heehee::cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

My car was due it's MOT a few weeks back. Booked it in at Ancaster Nissan. Usually I get it serviced as well. Having only done 337 miles since previous test, I just stuck with the MOT. Then came a phone call. Unit was going on shutdown due to C-19. Eventually car was collected, tested and returned. It had bee standing for a long time and showed it. It came back gleaming, no extra charge. I had also been offered a loan car for the period.

The chap who collected and returned my car was amazed at the clarity of the rear view camera. I have nowt but praise for this Nissan service.

Perhaps I should have started a new thread. Mike's Yarns.

It is often said that some oldies enter their second childhood. Well perhaps that's what is happening to me. I have developed a great interest in Triumph Motor Cycles. Paricularly 1963 6t Thunderbird. Reason being. I rode a job (Police) bike of that era. It was unmarked, Black/Silver with the Bikini rear fairing. Oh how I would love to ride again. I often look on you tube at vidios of these bikes. The exhaust sound has never changed. One you tube clip, is of a 6t following another bike. I realised that sitting here at my computer, my body was moving in sinc with the video.

I mentioned my yearnings to Amanda. Dad!!! Forget it.

Well. I could fit stabalisers to it.

The price though. I was reminded once by my Inspector, when espied off my area. Allen! Do you realise you have over £300 between your legs.

Naughty thoughts. The wife will be pleased.!!!

Now all these years later. To buy a restored bike as such will cost you around seven grand.

That Northern saying is correct. Theres money in muck/junk.

Per chance to dream. Stay Safe folks.

it’s safe to say I will not be using them again. Tomorrow Autoglass are due so another lost day and then back to normal.
I’m out of pockets by quite a bit and my companion has helped me so I owe her a big hug, maybe a kiss or two if she lets me
We sat down to chat about replacing the van and possibly going electric with the Nissan env200 as all my work is local.
The van I finally got as hire was the transporter kombi LWB version which is rotten on fuel consumption and I managed 3 days of work. Delivered with just about enough fuel to get the nearest garage and it was juddering like crazy before I got there.
If memory serves me well Diesel pumps don’t like running out of fuel.

The old pumps you would have to bleed the air out, the new one's do have self bleeds but you have to have a good battery to keep engine turning over

lovely day here hot on times. Borrowed neighbours long reach hedge cutter that was given to him by elderly relative. Needed it for 5 minutes. High Arch almost out of control. Problem was it only ran above half full really well. Below this level it often cut out. He still works so I said as part of borrowing it I would see if I could sort it out. It was so easy once I found the problem. The black rubber pipe was too short only reaching half way into petrol tank. Just how it became short may be due to a problem with cracking it certainly was not made like this. A visit to my local Charlies stores and £1.68 later I had 12" of clear fuel pipe they only had one size but it was perfect.
It is now cured and runs as it should. Neighbour is happy and I can borrow it anytime....probably not as it is bloody heavy.

I still have 8" of pipe left if anyone wants it. I could post it Royal Mail Secure Delivery. Signed for of course.

Much of the day spent preparing for high winds/gale. Protecting well grown beans and peas from " up to 80/100 kph ". Just starting to settle now at last. One stand of beans down but maybe the stems are intact. Horizontal broad beans...None of this qualifies as gardening!

For the rest just knitting and household stuff with videos/youtube
