Racking off wine and cider into demijohns for storage, only 12 more gallons of finished stuff in fermenters, then another 42 galls to do later when they've finished fermenting.

Thanks Shiney, have to look into it more.
The fridge has got a bottle in the back and sometimes the hole inside the fridge ice up and have to stick the handle of a teaspoon down it to unblock it.

You have a lot there, used to make my own wine but never liked the taste, i think that it was the Camden tablets that has to be put in.

The use of campden tablets (sulphite) can be avoided by steam juice extracting juice from berries/pressing fruit, plus pasteurising the juice prior to fermentation, and then the wine after fermentation.

EDIT: Forgot to mention using Ascorbic Acid/Bit C to inhibit oxidation in lieu of sulphite.

          Hi

A thread for 'Your day' I didn't want to start a new thread.

I hope I am in the right place, here.

I woke up his morning and went into the bathroom and found the floor was wet, I pulled the pedestal away from under the sink and found this 'a bit of a leak'

so my day will be spent at 'deleted' hardware store looking for plumbing to repair the leak.

          Trish

I have something like that in the garden, I call it "a water feature". Perhaps it's the same as defining "a weed" as a "plant in a wrong place". ;)

Anyways, I feel your pain trying to source the parts. Nowadays you need to specify the size in mm, inches and standard number to get the right one. I try to take the part to be replaced with me to the shops to get something that looks the same. Works well with oven light bulbs at least.

We used to have a lovely local shop selling everything from nuts and bolts via pet supplies and tomato seedlings to reusable giant party platter plates. When our ancient kitchen tap turned into, well, a water feature the owner packed up a range of washers (one of them is likely to fit), an industrial size adjustable spanner with a guarantee (if it doesn't fit, just bring it back) and an apology that he can't pop in to fix it himself.

Sadly, but not unexpectedly, the shop closed. Perhaps bookkeeping should be a bit more accurate than scribbles on a note pad and a open till to chuck the coins in.

Good luck Trish, I hope you get it fixed quickly. :blue thumb:

I have stopped the leak and bought the bits I need, so I will be having plenty of fun tomorrow with all those spanners and fittings. :dbgrtmb:

If it doesn't work out I will close the door and use the other bathroom.

When you dismantle the fitting i would clean the pipe and olives up thoroughly.. (Wire wool is good)
If you hold the centre flats with a spanner to stop the main body turning you should get a good seal. Generally the existing olives will be stuck on the pipe ends. That's ok, just clean them up and wrap ptfe tape over them.
You might get away with just removing the flexible tail pipe in which case it could just need a new rubber ring.
If you've bought a complete new 'tail' they can be a menace to fit at the tap end.

The best ever perk of the modern times is youtube. Search to see professionals showing exactly what to do and what not to do. I have found these much better than trying to follow an appliance instructions manual.

I keep forgetting which valves to turn which way when trying to re- pressurise our boiler, but the handy (and often quite pleasant looking) young professionals in Youtube show me exactly which valve to turn where for my specific type of boiler. Very educational. :)

If it is rusted at the bottom the chances are that its rusted at the top, I got over this problem by buying new taps. :blue thumb:

                          I fixed it,

no leaks and it works, I did not have all the fittings I needed so I improvised with what I had,

It took me all day but it’s a lot quicker than waiting for a plumber.
