On the morning I went for one of my cataract surgeries, there was a guy there who had had a few beers. The nurses told the doctor and the doctor went ahead anyway. He said, "if I don't do it as scheduled today, he'll come back another time and also after he's had a few beers but he'll use mouth wash before he comes through the doors".

And my bp goes up when I'm in a semi public setting and with a white coat. Luckily it has never caused any delays or hesitation so I guess it wasn't too high.

I got the snow shovelled off the cold frames and some of that snow shoveled into them.

And before it starts snowing again I'm going to get outside and start the barbecue to cook some chicken quarters. They were on offer at a good price :blue thumb:

Then I've got a jacket to cut out. I finally gave up trying to make up my mind about what to use for one fabric so I stowed it and pulled out another :rolleyespink:

I'll drink a bottle of White Wine next time, if I can get another appointment Lori.

Hmm that's my slight concern this time too, as after that last surgery my heart rate went bananas..... Hubs came to collect me at 5 and waited 2 hours only to end up being told to go home and that he would be called when it was safe for me to be discharged.

I was on a day ward and the only person left there, eventually my rate normalised and hubs came at 11 pm!! At one point they were discussing were I could go if need be for the night as the day ward needed cleaning and preparing for the next day.

Such very sad news last night of brave little Rayan....it's utterly heartbreaking to think of him being down there so very scared and in pain My heart goes out to his parents and to all the marvellous team who worked around the clock relentlessly in their fight to save him.:grphg:

I bought a Trivial Pursuit board game from our charity shop. It's a 1999 edition and we have been playing all weekend. My daughter was born in 2001 so is totally out of the pop culture questions, guessing that the band making a cover version of Take That song might have been the Beatles and so on. (To be fair, I'm equally at loss at the subject :heehee:)

It's hilarious to realise how long ago 1999 actually was. One of the questions was "Where can you read magazine "Wired Something" and the answer was- "Internet". A true novelty at the time!

It's also blatantly obvious that the team writing the questions didn't have Google but a stack of books. Our guess is that they had Gandhi's and Lee Harvey Oswald's biographies and a fun facts book of Olympic games. If in doubt, Lee Harvey Oswald is a good guess regardless of the question.

Apart from gaming, I have started repotting house plants and spreading compost all over the newly cleaned floors. Logical sequencing of jobs is apparently not my strongest point.

Oh, and we joined the Trendy Gang and made some Kimchi, very nice indeed! Sadly, we forgot to leave it to ferment overnight in room temperature which is a bit odd as we always forget leftovers out all night- the kimchi went very promptly in the fridge. :noidea:

Pie time now, I'll lobby for spinach, pancetta and cheddar :)

Gave my car its first wash of the winter. I am trying a new wash and wax to see if it saves on the effort of hand polishing. I'll keep that for the summer months.

I don't come on this thread often, but today I was driving along a local minor road, and saw four ducks and a hen crossing the road. They were holding up the traffic.

One fool coming the opposite direction to me started blaring his horn at them, but t
he birds just flapped their wings and carried on ambling across the road.
It took about half a minute in all, but you get some impatient idiots don't you :frown:

I remember back in the 80s/90s my father came to visit us in Bucks (from Arizona or Texas, wherever he was living at the time, and rented a car. Unfortunately we went out somewhere with him driving and he passed horses and honked and honked much to our horror!!!! We tried to politely tell him that was not the thing to do and his response was he didn't want the horses to jump out in front of him! We never got in the car with him again!.

I recently read the account of a fella who rode a horse (with a second along with him for luggage) from Argentina to NY in the 1950s maybe. He had some extraordinary adventures - including shooting dead a bandit who tried to rob him at one point. The absolute tragedy for me though was what happened when he got over the border into the US. The change was extraordinary. He was constantly harrassed aggressively by motorists - they would swerve at him and try to hit and scare the horses - and eventually one did hit him and seriously hurt one of the horses. It made hard reading.

Yes - my ageing Dad has given me a stack of books. His eye sight is sadly deteriorating quite fast, so he's offloading - books and tools. This one was called Tschiffley's Ride: Ten Thousand Miles in the Saddle from Southern Cross to Pole Star.

Looking it up now, it was set earlier than I remembered - 1925. Great book - and yes - would make a cracking film, potentially.
